Ebuyer Palit GTX460 1GB Special, £164.99 Delivered

Great Ebuyer E-Shot today with some worth checking prices for once. The Nvidia GTX460 1024MB is one of the best current cards in terms of performance for pound. This is as low as I have seen them for delivered and you are getting the upgraded Palit Sonic version for that price. The Sonic version has an improved cooler which will give more overclock headroom and less noise.

These are easily the best value/balance of power cards and they all overclock superbly! Also much easier on power consumption than the hot noisy cards further up the range. A decent alternative to ATI finally. Hotdeal !

Every time I want to upgrade my graphics card I remember I don't really play PC games and it's a lot of money. Grr!

I hope you have done that deal quickly! Gainward comes highly recommended from me, They are a top tier manufacturer and i have had numerous Golden Sample cards from them which are often among the best you can buy, No grudge against palit but Gainward are the boss in that comparison

Whose b4direct though? I've never seen them on TV even though they obviously think I should have. I know ebuyer is reputable. I agree that Gigabyte is the better option in comparison to cheapy knock off Palit.

Whose b4direct though?.....

That's why you pay with a credit card.

Is it fairly straight forward to get the audio to output through the hdmi socket on the gtx460 cards and are the drivers for doing this on the supplied disc or will I have to go online and download them? I only ask as when I got my ati hd4670 card I spent weeks trying to get sound to my plasma from the hdmi on it but then again novotech sent out a dvi to hdmi adaptor that didn't support audio out from it and I had to track down an adaptor that would output the audio.

I'm on the lookout for a new card that will do me for the next year or so and was considering the ati 5850 but as it's around £230 it's a bit pricey and this card might suit me better.

You assume I have one of course and you assume rightly, what you didn't account for is that it's maxed out on the credit limit, maybe I should stop buying stuff and pay it off hehe. I still don't know if b4udirect are reputable or not. Anyone care to vouch for them?

Always get the latest drivers for audio and video from the respective vendor sites. You can get a XFX 5850 for £214.56 on Ebuyer, plenty of stock. I'd still wait for prices to come down though. The GTX 460 is the best for the money in the £100 - £200 bracket easily.

Despite being a happy 5850 owner I think it's hard to justify one when this is available at such a good price.

Well they can usually be had cheaper than that but a 1GB 460 is pretty close performance wise, within 10 percent or so. You probably arent an overclocker but if you were that sort of difference is more than easily made up with a nudge of the clocks on a chip that overclocks this well
#14
this is hot for the 1gb version :D
#15
i have a 5850xxx which i got when they were slightly cheaper (£215 from aria) and if this card was out then id probably be getting one or maybe two for SLIage!!

id still consider holding fire on any cards if you can wait a couole of months for the southern island 6xxx ATI cards. these cards are great value for money though
#16
just reading up on sli these and they are pretty nuts.

anyone wanna buy a 5850xxx? lol. jokes :P

same here. overclocked it recently to get some extra performance. i was suprised how much extra i could get out of it.

two of these 460s would knock ours out of the water though lol

And just to add you can get a 756MB GTX 460 Palit here http://www.b4udirect.com/Graphics%20Card/Palit/b4u35119639 for £139 delivered!!

just been reading up on b4udirect and tbh i would rather pay extra to get it from ebuyer. a lot of people seem to have trouble as the items are sent from europe and not within their promised 24-48hours but a week later.

great prices but the service would worry me too much

Got the sonic platinum version of this card! I am seriously impressed. Runs BFBC2 on high nice and smooth!
#23
Ah crap - I just had mine delivered today but I paid £10 more. I've emailed ebuyer to see if they will credit the difference or see if they want me to send it back and re-order.
#24
I can vouch for Palit, also the 1gb is slightly different it has more shaders and a bigger bus size ect so its a better card not just more v-ram.

Here is a review, http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Palit/GeForce_GTX_460_Sonic_Platinum/

Overclocked you get get it to match the GTX470-5850 it beats the GTX465 and 5830

This is one of the best pre clocked cards but truth is it can go higher and most cards can easily do Palit speeds without a voltage increase.
#25
Palit actually own and manufacture the Gainward brand. The cards will be exactly the same, apart from different coolers and BIOS clocks.

I've Overclocked the 5850 to see what it would do on Unigine but I have a small case so I prefer to keep temperatures down and running quietly.
However the i5 750 processor is overclocked to around 3.3ghz as I have fitted a quiet heatsink.

The review is for the platinum - the deal isn't the platinum. I understand the only difference is speeds but just saying.

nice deal! great price for the 1gb version as this is a fair bit quicker than the 768mb version which is also very good. i love price drops :D!!! hope to see this at about £120 by xmas :)!

Great deal. Dang just need a bit more dosh before I can build a new gaming rig :(

The 2 gig model doesn't seem to show much performance gain? This 1 gig model seems to be the one to get.

I'm now running the card in the Vostro - I do have a 520w psu in there aswell though. This shows up one area where the vostro is weak. Cooling - the card on load is getting upto 92 degrees! Albeit with a %20 overclock though.

How large is this card dimension wise? I was considering upgrading my hd4670 to either an ati 5850 or this card but after noticing the dimensions of the ati 5850 it's put me off buying as it might restrict access to some of the plugs/sockets on my motherboard and I don't want to take the chance even though my pc case will take it so if anyone knows of a decent upgrade to my HD 4670 that will handle bfbc2 and isn't huge dimension wise and is fairly quiet and doesn't run too hot please let me know. Cheers
