ive purchased 2 of. There is no HDMI but has DVI and a great resolution. It was posted here a month back by guruan for £172ish, so this is cracking! ;]

Enjoy.

This is the SM2343NW, which doesn't have DVI. The SM2343BW has DVI, and eBuyer's price on this is £180 (ex. delivery) - CCL sell it for £168 (ex. delivery).

It appears you are indeed correct, an oversight on my part. That said still a good price for this. Im receiving mine tomorrow will be sure to post some pics and let you know how it compares to my Dell 2001FP that i currently use with DVI.

cheers

I pre-ordered this on Play.com earlier for £145, cancelled and ordered with eBuyer instead.
Saved me £15, and it comes a couple of weeks earlier!
Cheers :D
/me awaits the "omg its **** it doesn't have DVI" posts.

Well, here is one :-). I think analog VGA is fine for moderate resolutions like 1280x1024. But the higher the resolutions, the higher the dot clock, and more the analog signal suffers. So at this level (quite a bit more than HD) I*would certainly want a digital input. And I would prefer the 16:10 format over 16:9, but that may be a matter of taste.

Lack of inputs is a downer here, but the price is awesome for the rest of the product.

yeah add me to the same list - lack of DVI is unforgivable these days on a new model. Shame. Still a hot deal, but rendered useless for many.
#13
same here DVI is a must on a larger screen - but good price for a budget
#14
Can't believe large screen monitors are still released with a single 20 year old VGA input! So really this is obsolete, Bought my Dell 24" over a year ago which has DVI x 2, VGA, Displayport, HDMI, COLD for me.

Deal is hot, product may not be to your taste/technical requirement but don't vote the deal cold because of it.
Decent VGA with decent cable will quite happily drive this monitor, you think someone like Samsung would release a product that didn't work?
#18
great monitor, bought when it was £172. its got some amaazing quality, great finish, size is amazing! only thing it does not have is HDMI but thats not a problem
#19
I have this monitor with both DVI and HDMI, but I personally wouldn't recommend it. The viewing angle is terrible (particularly vertically) and I can't seem to get the colour balance or brightness to levels which I like. It always seems to leave me with a dull headache whenever I've used it for more than an hour - something I never had on my old iiyama monitor. I've had it for too long to return it, otherwise I would...

i went for the amazon acer one. unless you're planning to use the slightly more resolution that this monitor offers don't waste the extra few bucks.
#22
I'm sure plenty of people do like glossy screens, but personally I don't. The Samsung screen is very glossy - I'm not sure about the Acer one.
#23
Can this be used for Hi-Def gaming and using a Blu-Ray?HD-DVD Rom Drive?
#24
Yes you can but because you're using an analogue connection, you'd need to use AnyDVD HD to bypass the HDCP requirement that BD software has. Apart from that, amazing deal! Just not to my needs..

You clearly have a different model - please check the exact model number & get back.

I don't think this is glossy.

You might be confusing it with this one: SAMSUNG 23" Monitor 2048 x 1152 resolution £172.26 delivered @ More Computers - it's not the same as this.

I'd imagine the Samsung would be 'better' quality.

Good luck reading the text on this monitor if you're foolish enough to ignore the warnings. An analogue feed is fine with low resolutions, but even 1680*1050 on a 22" is a little unpleasant by analogue. The res on this is 21% higher, so expect text to be some 21% more badly ghosted and foul looking. Expect games to run at a snail's pace for zero IQ benefit, too. Cold from me. Good price, lousy tech.
#27
The EXACT model I have is the SM-2343BW which came from Novatech. A rep from Samsung told me the panel was the same, but with the differences being the HD inputs.
In future I shall however refrain from providing what turns out to be unwanted help in an attempt to try and help others out - I wouldn't want to offend the pedants!

How is the text on the Acer, Im looking for a 23 or 24 inch monitor as my eyesight isnt great and my 20inch monitor is a bit of a struggle to read the text.

Well you can blame the EU for that, they put an extra TAX on monitors with a digital connection.

On account of the very high res, this is likely to be worse in this respect than the Acer - & the Acer worse than your current monitor.

Have you tried setting a higher setting in View > Text Size (or similar) in your browser? You can also do it 'on the fly' using this method.

There are other ways of scaling text, but usually to the detriment of clarity.

They are matte, ive taken some snaps but not yet uploaded them. Side by side with my Dell 2001FP im impressed by the colour and of course the resolution. Yet to game or watch any real fast action movie, but so far so good.

See above - non-glossy. Also the 'better' model doesn't appear glossy in the pics posted by gurusan in his/her thread.

If yours has HDMI too, & the model number is SM-2343BW, then either you're mistaken - or, the rep from Samsung is? Couldn't find a HDMI connection for a SM-2343BW wherever I've looked.

Your choice. It looks I've offended you (not the other way around), to which I apologise. Only asked a straight question (& I might be right after all). Helping people know whether this is a glossy or non-glossy screen is far from being pedantic.

Do you not find the viewing angle to be really poor? If I sit dead centre at a fairly standard viewing distance to my SM-2343BW screen, I can see the colour imbalance between the centre portion and the outer edges. I'm just wondering if I've got a really duff panel or something
#35
My mistake about the HDMI - you're right it doesn't. I was getting confused with the
Asus VH226H one I have - I hold my hands up to that one, but mine is really glossy, with a poor viewing angle!!!

P.S. Didn't mean to be so curt - Sorry!

No problem - forgiven :)

I'm really surprised yours is 'glossy', as I've never come across a glossy Samsung TFT monitor before - Acer have CrystalBrite, Dell TrueLife, Sony X-Black & so on.
#37
I don't understand...why would Samsung make a monitor that lacked the connectivity for it to perform properly?

Surely it has to be fine displaying the full resolution?

That's called backlight bleed which is the nature of the beast when it comes to TN panels.
Here's a particularly bad example of backlight bleed on a black screen which is where it's most noticeable.

Viewing angles are when the colours on the screen change depending on what angle you're viewing it from.
