If you are with edf energy you can probably get a better deal without switching, but they won't tell you unless you ask them.

1 Phone them free on 0800 0969696
2 Press the option number for changing supplier (you will get straight through to a person!)
3 Tell them you are thinking of switching and ask if they have a better tariff. (have your current bill handy)
4 They will offer you a better rate till next September called the "price saver tariff). It has no lock in or penalty for leaving early. Could be for gas, or electricity, or combined.

Does this work with prepayment electricity as well?

EDF cheap? haha.
I work for British Gas for customer services and they even charge per more unit!.

http://uswitch.com

end of the day, you can only say whats cheap and whats not based on your consumption. Go to that comparison site and put it in, See what comes out.

We are with Atlantis..Can't fault them
#4
Personally if they dont tell you it could be cheaper then I wouldnt bother at all with them

I think it may - they are desperate not to lose custom.

Tell them you have seen a better tariff. Uswitch will, if you go through certain websites, pay £15 per supplier you switch.

Let us know if you get it - they're open till 8pm at night.

Good luck.

Ok, just off the phone as I'm a dual fuel customer with them. 7 minutes in total (but no wait) and it was confirmed that I have the cheapest possible tariff with them! I pay DD, no paper bills, take own readings etc. Nothing offered even though I'd found a better tariff at uSwitch...

But thanks for reminding to check!

UPDATE: We have a very energy-efficient boiler /insulation etc and are very careful with both gas and elec. But just worked out my annual costs from April 06 - April 07. For both, with all discounts applied, we paid a total of £210. Now I don't know what your bills are like, but I think that is damn good (although to be fair we had 6 weeks holiday over that period, so it's really for 10.5 months useage).

No-one said they were cheap - no-one is cheap these days.

I said you could get a better tariff than your current one.

I too have dual fuel.

New tariff offered is 3.2p per unit (compared with old one of 3.456) up to about 1450 units, then 2.02 (2.174) for gas.

For elec. 12.61 (13.4) and then 7.91 (8.32)

You need to compare your own, I suppose.

Virus,

Thanks for this!!

Just phoned them and spoke to a chap, I also looked at their leaflet that was sent to me with a recent bill and quoted the figures of their and said why were my figures not near to figures quoted on the example bill.

The example Bill showed the Electricity as first 227 at 13.25p then 7.88.

I was being charged fist 1465 at 18.10p then 8.68p

He advised that I was on the cheapest tariff already.

I then asked him what about the price saver tariff and he said he would have a look. He said oh that cheaper and said he woul transfer me onto that tariff straight away.

Gas first 1465 3.227 then 2.002

Elec First 225 12.47 then 7.50

Valid Until 1st October 2008

£210!!!???? For both gas and electric per year? Blimey I'm paying that in 2 months (£43pm for gas & £60pm for electric) - and no, I'm not in credit on either account! Seperate suppliers though so I could save a bit but not 70-80%. Maybe it's my appliances...................

Thank god someone else pays more than £210, we pay £40 a month for gas and about £25 for elec.:?

Just phoned and was put on The Price Saver 2008 Tariff straight away i pay monthly DD for duel fuel
#21
Do a check guys on one of the comparison sites before you go running for the phone, the one i checked had the PriceSaver2008 as more expensive than at least two other suppliers and only £4 year better than my old edf tariff.

£210/year is very very low for a fully occupied house in a year, we pay £35/month Gas and £26/month Electricity totalling about £730 and this came in as a low user on chart i saw recently, £42/m & £32/m were described as normal usage. We're pretty frugal on bulb's etc with all being fluoroscent and haven't a dishwasher but generally we're a normal house with all the usual electronic gadgets taking care to switch stuff off !

I don't see how it's possible for someone to have an annual duel-fuel bill of only £210, i'd love to know how they do it.....

We are with EDF. I pay £61 and £55 per month!. I phoned them recently and said I was on the cheapest tariff, not so sure now. I have switched providers twice so far. I find the bills quite confusing as the number of units used seems to have no bearing on cost, I think this is due to the varying calorific value of the gas.
Anyway will need to check my bills again and compare the prices being quoted here for KWH.
I amy switch again if I find they were lying to me...
