Wrt54fg is 802.11 G this is 802.11 N
So if you are going to vote cold do it on a like for like basis.

I had heard about these. am I right in understanding that I could just swap it with an existing one and get a stronger signal on wireless N belkin router?
Just had a closer look and this is the other end (laptop end!) Ah well, should have looked closer to start with. I need the router end

Again not the same thing, the idea of the adapter above is not speed it is distance that is the purpose of the 3Dbi gain antenna. the antenna has nothing to do with it being G or N or Mimo but every 3Dbi gain in the antenna will double your range but narrow your signal focus.
