They're rubbish!

Care to put a bit more meat to this less than constructive comment?

I have some of these and think they are pretty good. Keeps the egg together to make it more presentable.

poaching an egg is easy here ill save you £2.85

1, get a saucepan of water and boil the water and add a bit of vinegar.
2, Grab your phone and put the stop watch on.
3, put the egg in whole for 20secs
4, take it out and then crack it open and put it into the water and dispose of the shell
5, leave it in there for 2mins 40 seconds
6, eat

Thats how to get the resturant style poached egg and when you get use to it, it will come out perfectly shaped and runny everytime.

I would still recommend putting a drop of oil in before the egg otherwise they do get a bit stuck. These are good though :)
#6
Super price, just paid £4.99 from Lakeland for the exact same thing! More ordered at this price, they're great :)
#7
I didn't find these to be very good voted hot for price I think putting the egg in water is much better.

I really like these - the eggs come out absolutely fine. I mean you could kid yourself that doing it the proper way, losing half the white and having a yolk with a small amount of eggwhite dangling off it like a demented hydra is better but...
#9
these are brillinag need a drop or spray of oil easiest way of poaching eggs we even take these on holiday

I've always been rubbish at poached eggs and these are fantastic and great value at £2.85.

tried that and they come out ok but more washing up so will eventually erode the £2.85 ;)

and they tasted of vinegar!

actually, havent tried the whole egg first for 20 secs, Sounds good tbh.

would have ordered but they don't ship to NI..boohoo

Put a spoon in the water and spin it round before you crack your egg in the water. The water vortex keeps the eggs small and they always comes out looking good, and tasting even better!

Are these timings for eggs from the fridge or from room temperature?

If you use fresh eggs (cold from the fridge or at room temp) and a deep pan of water then they don't disperse in the water or turn stringy - you don't need to stir up a vortex or add vinegar or anything else gimmicky.
Just heat the water until it boils, reduce the heat to stop it bubbling when you drop in the egg, then turn it up again for a minute or so.
If you haven't got fresh eggs then poaching them "runny" probably isn't a good idea anyway.

I have some of these (at extortionate Lakeland prices) and the hassle of cleaning them afterwards isn't really worth it IMO unless I need to make a lot of poached eggs - the one thing these are good for is keeping them separate.

Still, if you can't be bothered to learn the simple act of poaching an egg properly then this is a good price to justify maintaining a comfortable level of ignorance... ;-)

These are OK - but i prefer to drop the eggs strght in the water with a bit of cider vinagar in the pot. These give the eggs a bit of a plasticy texture, and also means more washing up.
#25
am I being daft - do these mean you poach the eggs in the microwave (in which case, use a cup?) or are they for helping keep the eggs together when poaching in a pan?

The latter

These may be good but my method is as follows:-

1) Boil Water
2) Stir water really fast to create a whirlpool (Be Careful not to burn yourself)
3) Crack egg(s) into middle of water
4) Wait for water to boil again
5) Turn off heat and leave for approx 2 minutes in water
6) Remove and serve

Cooks the perfect poached egg with a perfect shape every time!

OR you could buy these for £2.85, which would save you a good 2 minutes preparing the eggs, and a drop of vinegar every time.
Use once a week for a year and you have saved yourself nearly 2 hours of your life which you could spend at work, which on the minimum wage would earn you over £10! Do this for 10 years and that's £100!

Sorry to be pedantic :p

Apart from anything else these things don't poach, they coddle, as do most things called poachers. To poach they need to be in the water.

I've been using the clingfilm technique, works great. I'll have to have a try with the 20 seconds whole egg style.

totally agree plus they absorb the smell of anything else in the fridge.

eggs should be stored at room temp unless it gets above 25 degrees in your kitchen

Cooks the perfect poached egg with a perfect shape every time!

what happens if you want two though? do they join together?

To me, these are superb and far less mess / washing up. Only takes a rinse / sponge pad and pan can go back in cupboard.

Or just speaking from my experience of using them

so what went wrong? They are simple to use.

1. Simmering pan of water
2. Crack egg into poachpod
3. Place in water
4. PUT A LID ON (very important)
5. Ready in 4-5 minutes depending on size of egg
6. Run blunt knife around edge and egg slips out (or oil approach beforehand)
