THIS IS AN 8 INCH - FOR LESS THAN YOU NORMALLY SEE 6 INCH GLOBES.

* Like something from Doctor Frankensteins laboratory!
* Glowing strands of lightning
* Direct the lightning by passing your hands over the glass globe!
* 200mm (8-inch) diameter
* Supplied with plug in mains adaptor

An 200mm (8in) plasma ball which produces streaks of lightning that reacts to your touch. Supplied with plug in mains adaptor.

I have not included this as an online option, as they are pretty fragile and there could be loads of bother from having one delivered.

Better also include the £2.99 delivery if the order value is below £35.

What do you mean in your title "who never dropped the price with the new VAT" ?? No retailer has to drop the retail price of a product, they just collect less VAT, therefore keeping the 2.17% extra profit. It doesn't have to be passed on. With many stores closing i don't blame retailers for keeping the extra profit (all little of it!)

If VAT is now 15% but the overall price of the product has not chanded for us, maplin have in that case increased their price!

So what?

The point of the VAT cut was to help small businesses as much as consumers. A lot of small businesses go bust because they have to pay over VAT collected from sales before their debtors actually settle their bills. This small cut should help cashflow a little. If they opt not to pass over the reduction in VAT it also helps their bottom line.

Has the person who complained about Maplin not changing the price due to the VAT change not realised the basics of retailing? Most prices are £xx.99 or £xx.49. Prices get rounded to the nearest pound and then knock a penny off in most cases. It's not often something will be £13.87... so knocking about 2% off wouldn't usually result in a price change to the customer anyway.

Also the cost of the VAT change to the retailer has to be considered. Changing accounting systems and tills for example. It's been a pain for councils where people have paid rent on (for exmaple) garages by direct debit in quarters and now they have to refund the small amount of VAT that they have overpaid.
