Rated 4.5/5 to 5/5 on the specialist drink websites I've looked at.

Price Comparison:
£78.34 at TheDrinkShop
£79.30 at Master of Malt
£80.95 at The Whisky Exchange
£82.83 at Amazon.co.uk
etc.

Only 7 left! Get in there!

£5.99 Shipping (25kg worth of goods from Approved Food, up to 25kg). Or £10.99 for some areas - 'orrid!
I assumed there was a voucher doing the rounds for free postage (just checked - there isn't).

Tons of far cheaper booze bargains, such as Ales for 99p etc.

I've left it as available both online and offline as if you can call into the warehouse in Sheffield to pick it up then you don't have to pay P&P/shipping.

Ah, I copied Approved Food's description - looks like Amazon has done the same (I just thought that was the product name, but I can't actually see it on the label or bottle).

Yeah, I noticed The Whisky Exchange has El Dorado starting from £22.75 for the 3-year one.
What's a decent in-between for value (taste and the price)?

much much cheaper, they are usually between £7 - £15, so when you are buying it through import, they hike the price of it stupidly

An absolute classic, of course. Ahem. Not one we'd want to import or export.

now that is cheap, but I think on balance, the 15 is superior

you could try angostura 1919 or mount gay xo for the imo cheapest sipping rums, although of a different lighter style to el dorado

imo again, the el dorado doesn't start getting drinkable until the 15, which is weird, because the 15 is one of the absolute best rums out there... the 12 is very harsh to my tastes

Top tips there - I think I may have found myself a potential Christmas present, seeing as I haven't been able to offer anyone any suggestions until now! Mount Gay is £30 at Ocado now - seems to be a fiver off most places - is that a decent price or does it go on offer for less? The El Dorado 15-year is looking good (hoping for a price drop).

El Dorado 12 or 15 year old. Not a lot between them. I at times prefer the 12 yr old.
Diplomatico reserva excl, Doorlys XO, Zafra, Zaya among others also work for me.

mount gay around 30 - 35 is about right...i haven't noticed it cheaper, but that doesn't mean it never goes cheaper

el dorado 15 (35 quid at lidl 2 xmasses ago but never seen it repeated since) is a price point above the 1919 and mount gay xo...for good reason, but the 1919 and mg xo imo are the best of the 30-ish quid sipping rums... diplomatico exclusiva reserva as mentioned above is (roughly the same price point as el dorado 15) is another first rate sipper, but of a different character to el dorado 15.... if you get into rums and explore them you will note the differences yourself and the flavours and characters you prefer

for the record, my entry into sipping or what i call expensive spirits, was angostura 1919... now it may not appeal to your taste, but its a solid quality rum at a decent price (same with mount gay xo too)

imo, but again, tastes are entirely subjective, zaya and zapaca are over rated and over priced, while kraken is cheap, readily available and punches above its price point... i drink kraken neat as a sipper, doesn't need to be a mixer imo

i find rums much more exciting than whiskies... and generally, cheaper for the better quality stuff

enjoy your rum journey, xmas is the best time to get stuck in lol

Thanks for this - really enjoyed reading it. I'm sold. I like something with depth, richness and a bit of a kick. Let's see what I can find and enjoy along the way, lol.

Cheers for this. My mouth is watering reading these comments - but it's (not long) past midday, so that's ok ;)
