I've just seen this in the Bigpockets newsletter, searched and can't find it posted already

Should just mention, as you're all voting it cold with no comments that the guitar pack with cheap amplifier is currently £129.99 at woolworths - I think that makes this a deal, even if you don't like the guitar, vendor, the weather etc

note I don't think ths includes the amp mentioned in the review

1 x Electric Guitar
1 x Whammy Arm
1 x DVD (How to play Guitar in 30 Minutes)

About Construction: Bolt-on
Body: Basswood
Neck: Maple
Frets: 22F
Pickups: S-S-S (x 3 pick ups)
Pickguard: White
Controls: 1V/2T, 5 way switch
Hardware: Chrome, covered
Knobs: Tone, Tone, Bass
Review With the market overflowing with budget guitar in the run up to Christmas i was more than a little surprised and very impressed with the standard of the Relic. Borrowing the classic Strat shape and 3 Single Coil pick up configuration the Relic is very versatile and ready to Rock whatever your music of choice. The action and neck of the guitar feel in keeping with much more expensive makes and really make this budget guitar a cut above its peers, the fact that it also looks cool in a distressed grunge type of way only adds to its charm.
The Nevada Rocktronics 10 Watt practice amp compliments the guitar nicely and both the clean channel and the overdrive crunch channel fill even the biggest room without sounding pushed. To sum up the Relic is an ideal beginners guitar, it looks cool, plays well and should bring a smile to any budding guitarists this Christmas.

This is brilliant. Whats with all the cold votes? Good find

Hot deal for me. Even if it's just to hang on the wall like the review said.
#3
Alway wanted to learn the guitar I know my missus would kill me though if i bought it
banned#4
I prefer air guitar myself.
#5
Youd be better going to a shop and getting a second hand semi decent one with an amp. Its not really a good deal
#6
The practice amp alone is worth £20.Brilliant deal.

No, the amp doesn't come with it. the reviewer just reckons it compliments it. According to the site the package is the guitar, whammy bar and a tutorial dvd.

There are guitar and amp packages available on ebuyer for around £60. But this just looks good with its distressed style.

Great! Been looking for a goodlooking, cheap electric. Just ordered and I've been promised a free gift. I think it's a CD holder cos it says on my statement - Hamburger/ Ham Sandwich CD 24 Case

paid over £200 this week for an electric guitar for son from a music shop, then saw this! Darn.

I cant believe you said that. The guitar you got will be so many times better. A **** guitar like the one here will put your son off the guitar because they are so unplayable.

Which did you get? The Yamaha Pacifica is common around £200

Jazzy do you play guitar? You can set up any cheap electric guitar to make it playable and sound half decent. A bargain for £40 delivered. My old washburn with the nightmare fretbuzz is going up in the loft when this arrives. The collection is up to 14 now! The custom US strat sitting pride of place.
#13
Looks a great deal...the guitar looks like it costs a lot more than £40 - distressed look makes it stand out against the other cheap guitars around at the moment. Hot

If you are looking for a decent starter outfit -
http://www.wesleyguitars.co.uk/storefrontprofiles/deluxeSFshop.aspx?sid=1&sfid=44184&c=282695
Owner is ex-marillion and it's very decent kit compared to the usual e-buyer type cheap tat.
They also sell on ebay if you want to try and get something a bit cheaper.
#15
Looks like a good deal to me, you don't need a great guitar to learn the basics. Voted hot.
#16
Good deal but sold out already....
#17

PHEONIX PLAINTOP CHERRY 'BURST ELECTRIC GUITAR - (Model EL250cs)

Now this IS a hot deal - a fantastic range of starter packs to choose from which all look great. You'll get what you pay for with guitars obviously, but for a starter pack these are well worth considering. As has already been mentioned, you can set any guitar up to sound and play better and these kits lok much better than most I've seen on high street/argos etc.

ROCK ON!!!

As usual with these cheap guitar posts, a bunch saying they wiill put people off guitar. 18 months ago, I bought a e-buyer special (in red). There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. In fact if you're ever going to get a pedal, the processing it'll go through will mean it'll sound almost like anything you want.

People seem to forget that a guitar is a few strings stretched over a board with stops on it. Sure, humbuckers and pickups can vary the tone, materials can improve the reliability, but these cheap guitars are 95% there - in fact, my electric is fantastic at holding it's tune, it's mostly the temperature changes that knock it out of line.

This looks a good deal shame it's expired.
I bought one of the cheap E buyer sets and it was phenomenal value. Though 6 months on I have upgraded to a new Guitar and amp but would never have even started at the price of them so the cheap sets do have their uses. Saying that those wesley sets look great at a glance.
#21
Also completely agree with Kallisti post above. Though my new guitar is a beautiful piece of work.
It's probably more important to have a good amp with some effects.
#22
I bought one last night at about 2 AM.....there were 30 left and counting down....I foolishly thought that the Amp was included in the price....still a good deal though it's bound for Ebay now.
#23
Totally disagree.....I have 4 guitars - An Encore that i had when i was a nippa and just starting out which cost about £80 (some 20 years ago now!) and my pride and joy Ibanez J-Craft Custom Series costing me over £1000...and to say a guitar is just strings and a bit of wood is very nieve - You can tell a MASSIVE difference in guitars just by picking the thing up before you've even played them!! - and the feel of playing them is a gulf apart!! - let alone the sound which is a big factor. The £30 guitar will have cheap electrics which will buzz in flourescent lighting and crackle in use after a short while....the £30 guitar will not stay in tune as well, someway to do with cheap strings, cheap bridge, cheap tuners (and cheap wood) - a £30 guitar is also not as easy to play AND because it is uninspring to play it can leave a beginner losing interest at an early stage.

That said, there is nothing wrong with buying a cheap guitar as your first, but there are good quality cheap guitars and firewood - and IMHO you would be better off getting a Yamaha Pacifica 017 for £99 than buying this....almost ALL of the components will be better quality, it will play better and sound better (although not as good as a £1000 guitar but thats obvious).

All said, i have never heard of this make of guitar so maybe its ok...but for £30 id doubt it can be made very well - If you want a guitar to just mess about with, stick in your bedroom just for looks and not take too serious then this may be ok , but if you are serious about learning guitar then at least spend £100-£200 and get a good decent starter guitar.- Yamaha and Ibanez do some good starter packages.
#24
jazzy 639 - it's an SG red wood one, like Angus Young (I think!) - he had a blue KCC one before courtesy of ebuyer but has now progressed after lessons. the new one sounds fantastic.
#25
spenspuma is right about the Yamaha Pacifica , it is my first guitar and i have to say its still one of my faves! i love to play it

But that was the whole point of posting this, it's not a £30 guitar it's a £30 deal on a £99 guitar. I don't know if it's as good as a Yamaha but the two reviews are quite positive so I though it was worth posting.

Sorry about that, I did say I didn't think the amp was included but I should probably have removed the mention of it from the posting. Wesley guitars will do you one for £19.99

The Pacifica does the basics perfectly and thats whats so great about it - stick in a set of Seymour Duncans, new strings, upgraded bridge and tuners and you'd have yourself a professional playing and sounding guitar that would last you a lifetime and you'd probably never get bored of it.

For £30 i suppose you cant go too far wrong - if its rubbish then you could probably use it as firewood or sell it to a Nirvana tribute band who can use it to smash up Cobain style at the end of the gig!!

If you are looking for guitar reviews then the best place to go is HARMONYCENTRAL.....they have user reviews on pretty much every guitar ever made.

Mine arrived today as well (putting my money where my mouth is :-D) and I'm very happy with it too, though I'm by no means a guitar expert.

No problem Stollyman.....I didn't read it properly.....It's an old story, oft' repeated.

" It was late......... I was listening to Hendrix......there was liquor involved......... I had a credit card..........I can still hear the screaming"

Like I said, probably still a good deal on a 99.00 guitar......will see when it arrives. If I wanted perfection, I'd buy a Les Paul.

Cheers.

Darned that I missed out on this, so if anyone doesnt like theirs I'll take it................ PM me!
