Winner of the Palme d'Or and the award for Best Director at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival, Gus Van Sant's Elephant is a powerful experience. Inspired by the tragic events of the Columbine High School shootings, Elephant begins as just another ordinary day at a typical American high school. Students wander in the corridors, classes begin and end. The air is filled with the sound of small talk. Girls gossip and complain about their moms, while out on the football pitch practice comes to a close. For kids like Eli, John, Nate and his girlfriend Carrie, this is their world as friendly as it is sometimes lonely, as comforting as it can be tough. But their world is about to be torn apart...

The picture on link to image file is not ther hmv exclusive sleeve as i could not get the link for this.

If it's anything like Gus Van Sant's "Last Days", please avoid!!! That was the slowest film I have ever seen... watched the last hour of it on 4x speed and it was STILL slow!!!
Having said that, it is a good price for Blu Ray, but I would need some convincing about the films content!!

I've seen it and it is very good if you appreciate the art of how it was made.
The first hour or so is spent getting to know the characters in their everyday lives and emotions, which may seem/feel quite dull and pointless. However, this is to heighten the empathy you feel in the second half when things take a sinister and slightly random turn for the worst.
I believe it was based on the Columbine shootings.
Personally, not my thing, but for people who like this sort of thing it's fantastic.

It's actually a pretty good film, really nicely made, as a sort of Baz Luhrman's 'Romeo and Juliet' (or maybe Romeo and Romeo) MTV-style take on the Columbine shootings...

and for errolevans, it's actually got 'Green Wing' style time ramps init so if you don't like it'll do the fast forwarding for you! ;)

Good price, quite tempted seeing as the DVD is 4.99 anyway...

I've seen this movie. It's very character focussed and less of a thriller. Segments of the story are told (and shown) more than once through different characters and perspectives, buiding up to the climax. Good camera work and intellectually stimulating dialogue , imo.
