Brilliant movie. Recommend it to anyone who enjoyed 'City of God'
After the success of the documentary BUS 174, Jose Padilha directs this drama set in Rio de Janeiro's favelas in 1997. The captain of the state police force (Wagner Maura) faces pressure from within and without, as he seeks his own replacement so he can devote his time to being a father instead of fighting the seemingly impossible battle against crime. ELITE SQUAD (TROPA DE ELITE) is based on the experiences of one of its screenwriters, Rodrigo Pimental. Padilha and CITY OF GOD's Braulio Mantovani also earn credit for the script.

do you know when number two is out?
Good film, recommended.
Excellent film - Bus 174 was tremendous as well - as riveting a documentary I have ever seen with a real unexpected twist.
Excellent film. Very much worth it!
The film is fantastic, Elite Squad 2 is even better.

The only observation it has nothing to do with City of God, they aren't from the same writer, they just have similar settings.
Awesome film.
Saw this in cinema back in 2007 and whilst not a classic like 'City of God' it was another fine Brazilian movie.

I wonder if we'll ever get a UK release of the complete series 1-4 DVD of the TV show prequel to 'City of God' that is 'City of Men'? As I saw the first 2 seasons on BBC years ago but seasons 3 & 4 never seem to have made it to these shores...
