between all of my family we have sent four of these elonex machines back as they are useless for most kids ,we couldnt get on the internet at all and by their own admission you cannot get you tube on these machines you will be better off getting a cheap laptop. Also this companies customer services in my experience is absolutely useless

Didn't buy it for youtube, my daughter already has a laptop for everything.
It's for school and train journeys!

can xp be put on this?

No, they don't have x86 processors. They are just giant PDAs rather than a computer/netbook.

You can't just go to a site and download software.

It all won't work unless it is X86 able.

A bit deceptive a review.
It won't run Open Office. Probably never will. They use the word 'instead'.
An EEE PC can be had for £10 less so the only real advantage in this is weight.

don't bother with this , it's a complete waste of time , I can't stress enough how pointless this thing is . It's designed for kids yet won't go onto any of the kids sites. i.e. cbbc , nick jr .. etc as they all use flash . Sent the first one back as it just died overnight, lots of them did this.. second one is still sat here waiting to go back as it turns itself off.

buy an eee pc , install xp

My wife got one from me.
What we need for it is very good.
Internet, email, and using as internet radio. And games.I have downloaded loadsa games and she plays so much with them and we are happy. Also battery last for ages, easily for 4 hours, possibly longer. And when we are going on holiday it's also very easy to carry being 630 or 650 grams.
If we are stuck anywhere just logon google map or similar and bingo!!!Book size.Very crisp display.I installed VNC viewer on it too,so I can see my other (big) XP computer's desktop and everything on it also controll ect, very funny:-)
We paid £120 on elonex website www.elonexone.co.uk
This is such a stupid comment : It won't run Open Office. Probably never will. They use the word 'instead'..Does it matter what the word processor and the other office tools called??? Jesus...

Cold from me - sorry, but can't really see the point of this now that the Eee and Aspire One can be had for much the same price (and do the same job much better). If this was available last year at this price it might have been a good deal.
