Does anyone know how good this is ?

Useful budgets I guess for additional front height or side speakers in 7.1.

Wouldn't be much use as main speakers, ok for use as budget rear/side/additional height speakers, depending on the size of your room. These are lightweight speakers and use keyhole hooks at the read, I used to use a pair on my second system, but upgraded them now, they were fine for the primary use in that small room which was for surround sound whilst gaming.

They're under a tenner,
compact & tactile.
They're fairly robust
so they should last a while.
Nice finish in black,
they look pretty sweet.
Adequate performance
So hey! Have some heat..

it's a no brainer....
heat (_;)

Ye Gods, who cares - there absolutley fine - THEY'RE £10!!!!

I do remember the price £59.99 !!

I had a similar £15 cheap pair of speakers from Richer Sounds once, were Gale not Eltax, must be similar quality for that price. They have been fine for several years in the kitchen connected to an old amp and cheap mp3 net radio streaming box.

CAUTION:
These speakers will need a separate amplifier to work.
Please do not mistake them for powered speakers.

I think anybody who is reading this forum , could work that out for themselves to be honest !!

Spring clip terminals as well. Got a pair of these a few years ago to link to an old amp connected to my PC.
Can't go wrong for under a tenner.

Some people are just dangerous maxdog.....

CAUTION: If someone buys speakers not knowing they need a source then they should not be allowed out alone or on a computer for that matter......If you see someone like this report them to the police....oO

This is always the problem with any Home Cinema/Hi Fi equipment listed as deals on here, you would be surprised at the amount of people assume with owning PC amplified speakers and all in one Bush/Alba/Goodmans et all "Micro systems" from their nearest Argos that come with speakers with bell wire to connect; are totally ignorant to the world of amplifiers/receivers/proper speaker wire and bookshelf/floorstanding speakers.

Anyone know if this applies to the few Northern Ireland stores?

You will need to call your local store and check but these are NOT clearance items they are regular stock lines. You should have no problem with stock and if they don;t have any ask them to order for you just go in tomnrorow to pay.

Good luck

looks like they sold them at this price in 2008 too...

I got them in Beech a few years ago..I think it was 2007 something like that in Beech for I believe £9.99 too. That is why I am not shocked about this, in fact I am sure they yo-yo between £19.99 and £29.99 at "regular price" anyway. Eltax like Cambridge Audio are tied into Richer Sounds as a distributor so stocks are always aplenty.
#27
Remember if anyone is interested in these, you may be surprised how small they are, seriously best used for rears or side speakers in 7.1.

Been using Eltax floorstanders, centre and sub for years now. Decent sounding budget speakers.

Can't argue with these for a tenner! (Although probably not as main fronts)
#29
These are a really weak set of speakers. I personally would not add them to my set up.

Great price indeed though.
#30
I've been wanting to buy these for ages but couldn't justify the £30 for them just for a small kitchen stereo. £10 - hell yeh! If they have stock of course :)

Via an amplifier, yes.

Hmmm, had the first, last and ONLY pair from the Cardiff branch. One of the kids is gonna be disappointed! Shame the stock is so limited, just a single pair. Are the 'DoTD offers always so poorly stocked at RS?
#36
they're great with PC's & ipods (with an amp ofcourse). would also be good to get an active sub to give the extra ooomph & use the eltax as satelite speakers.

That's exactly what I have in mind for these. The satellite's are shot on my lads setup. Luckily the amp gubbins are all in the sub enclosure so these will be perfect.

can anyone recommend a budget amp to go with these?

To use with what?

And using the speakers as what? (They would make better rears/surrounds than fronts/mains)

If you just want to use them with a PC or something you'd be best finding a little 2.1 system (normally aimed at PC's) and replacing the L/R speakers with these and retaining the sub - which is also where the amp is normally housed in a 2.1 PC system.

If you are wanting more a full system then you'd really need at least two bigger speakers to use as fronts and then use these two as the rears. If you want a seriously cheapo amp you get more bang for your buck buying an older model second hand on ebay than buying new ....
