I bought an Eltax AV amp from ebuyer a few monthes ago. I've also got an Eltax car stereo I'm very pleased with. If this is as good it's a real bargain. voted hot.

I have had one of these for nearly 2 years ( rebadged as Minato and sold by Netto).
They are very good , they even do DTS and pro-logic2 . It has 2 analogue inputs so you can get Dolby pro-logic2 surround sound from your TV or sky/freeview box. They don't have a digital input to get DTS or dolby digital from other sources ( but then hardy any do ) but dolby pro-logic 2 is a 5:1 surround sound.

They are a giveaway at this price.

I assume you have an XBOX 360 if its HDMI, and not the original Black XBOX :)

This 5.1 Surround Sound does not have Optical In, which is essential for true 5.1, else it would just be stereo sound.. basically your two front TV speakers in every corner of the room.

According to the spec.. list over at 'Ciao' it does indeed have DivX playback, see HERE!

On closer look elsewhere....I see no other mention of any DivX playback, hmmmmmm, still for £30 it's a fine n dandy steal IMO. :)

Not sure I's trust that as no where else I can find says it has Divx. Btw in case it matters to you its quite deep (as all the dvd surround sounds systems appear to be) at 410mm.

Good deal though

Cheers

5.1 can be done through 2 connections. Google "pro logic II" and learn about the wonders of phase-shifting

This gets more confusing found another page on amazon here thats says it definitely doesn't play divx but then again it says boxed weight 100g!! This page refers to may 2006 though so updates may have been made to the player

Looks like the one ebuyer were selling a few months ago for £23 (but without speakers).
I bought one to use as a HiFi. The sound is awesome, i use it for CDs, MP3 DVDs and FM radio.
The FM tuner sets up in seconds and the reception is fantastic.

Well worth considering if you are looking for a cheap stereo.

From Eltax website:

New region code for Eltax Spirit and DR-109
How can I change the region code on my Spirit or DR-109 DVD-Receiver...?

Answer:
Please follow instructions below:

1) Press "SETUP" button.

2) Then press "0000" (4 Zero's)

3) Press "NEXT" (Skip forward) button, then a new menu point "VERSION" will appear.

You can now select your preferred region code with up or down arrows on the remote, then press ENTER.

The new reigon code is now selected.

can this work with a ps3?
#15
Woooo dispatching soon, got it for £24.99 as i had a £5 voucher from when amazon cancelled my last order (mis-price on a brabantia bin). Dont think im going to be blown away (because of the price) but its only for my bedroom anyway with my 26" tv so its hardly going to be a great home cinema anyway, but just in terms of what it can do and whats included it seems like a giveaway at the price. If the speakers can be wall mounted and the cables of a reasonable length i will be doubly happy. Ability to make it region free (post above) is great if it works!
#16
it has 2 analogue inputs.. not sure if speakers will work if connected to a tv with integrated digital freeview?

5 x 50 watts, 1 x 80 watts relates to 5 x 25 watts, 1 x 40 watts RMS

Unless you know what you're talking about, don't pretend to be stating fact. It is possible to do 5.1 over a 2-point stereo connection if both devices have dolby pro logic II (which uses 90° phase shifting and other wizardry).

wikipedia
In 2000, Dolby introduced Dolby Pro Logic II (DPL II), an improved implementation of Dolby Pro Logic. DPL II processes any high quality stereo signal source into "5.1"—five separate full frequency channels (left, center, right, left surround and right surround) plus one low-frequency-effects (deep bass) channel.

In a case where the outputting device has pro logic II and the receiver does not, the receiver will play all information through standard stereo, however if both the outputting device and the receiver have pro logic II, the receiver will be able to "seperate" the "parts" it's receiving through the 2-point connection and turn it back into 5.1

It has two stereo phono INPUTS..
If you connect your TV ; freeview box ; Sky box or any other stereo source you will get Pro-Logic2 surround sound ( which is a 5:1 surround sound and actually pretty good). Its much much better than the original dolby pro-logic.
With games consoles i am not sure if they put the correct encoding onto the stereo signals for pro-logic2 surround ( if they do, then you will get 5:1 surround sound by conncting to the stereo inputs on the Eltax)..

Be aware the multiregion hack does not work on all the units ( there are differing firmware versions ). It did not work on my rebadged unit.

Arrived earlier today, excellent value for £...had it setup in the bedroom in next to no time, only gripe being the size of the damn player(/receiver), it's actually deeper than the tv unit I have in my bedroom at present...it's a monster, anyhoo, aint complaining...multi-region straight out of the box and seems to love DVD-R too, what more can you ask for...maybe some slightly thicker speaker cable, lol...CHEERS OP!!!!
#25
Got mine today too, its not just good for the price im really impressed with it full stop!! The size is pretty big, but so are most surround sound units so i was ready for that, box size and size was a bit worrying at first and i was picturing a huge sub but its actually a good size and has a very good bass. Combined with my cheapo but good HDTV i now have a nice little home cinema in my bedroom. Even the tuner is quite good and handy for testing the speakers, nice and easy to setup and theres plenty of cable. Will be mounting the speakers at the weekend and i have plans involving masking tape and paint to hide the wires ;)

Same thing i'd like to know! I'm watching this one very closely because if it does play divx I can see the hordes on here snatching them up and them going OOS as they are a great price!

Could this be connected to Xbox 360, TV, DVD and Sky at the same time?

:?
#34
You certainly could with some adapters to expand the number of connections, ive got mine connected to the TV, 360, PC, DVD/radio (as its built in...), then to my hifi for DAB and also my ipod (crazy amount of cables but it all works nicely). Also incase anyone was wondering, the region free code works correctly and setting it to 0 makes it region free.

In regards to divx, i havnt really got anything to test it out with. Pretty sure all my downloads are .avi (only have prison break)...and i just rip my dvds full image without converting. To be honest i havnt got a clue about divx, but if someone could point me to a file which i can download, burn and try and play i can try...
#35
if your avi files are around 700mb, and between 60 and 90 mins long, then there is a good chance they are divx (depending on coding bitrate).

I am interested in buying this system but can those who have received the Eltax please comment more on the sound quality?

How does the sound quality compare with more expensive 5.1 systems? Are the little speakers small and tinny, or do they produce good sound? I've never had a 5.1 system before and may well try it.

Also does it have a scart connector for the TV or just RGB / composite?
#37
Sound qualitys great, im amazed at how good it is. Easily compares to more expensive alternatives, does dolby digital and even dts (little icon on screen) and its great. Got everything hooked up and it just sounds great, and the sub...how did i live without one?!

P.s. its out of stock now, good while it lasted. Hope everyone paid the really cheap sum of £30 and got one...price of a game for a surround sound system - crazy!
#38
Does anyone know if it is capable of playing stereo through all of the speakers? My parents are struggling to hear their tv without the sound turned right up so the ability to distribute the same tv sound around the room would be excellent for them.

thanks

I was playing around with it last night and found so long as you enable the pro-logic II you get a very nice and clear 5 channel mix with a standard stereo source. :)

Mine came yesterday, but it was a faulty returned item, the box had been open previously, the unit was stratched and very noisy when spinning a dvd, and there was only a single speaker cable for all 6 speakers. When I called Amazon they were going to send someone to pick it up but that means wasting an extra day off work waiting, or I would have to pay to send it back via the post office.
Not impressed, shame really I was looking forward to having it.
