Probably only for the music purists on here.

Very good price for an SACD which sounds excellent with the right audio setup. This is about a tenner on most sites.

Elton John made his best music back in the 70s and this album is one of his best from back then.

Shame that SACD are getting so rare, although with it I treasure my titles, shame there is not much outside of the classical arena (if any) released these days.

Heat added, but most certainly will be giving this one a miss personally, definitely not my bag.

Does anything new get released on SACD now?

Everything I want on SACD seems to now be deleted and costs a fortune :(

Yes, I think only Jazz & Classical releases now.

I can see SACDs failure at the time, included considerable investment, earlier SACD players needed analogue multichannel output to receivers, these days though with more people hooking up Blu Ray Players etc via HDMI to AV Receivers I think there is more of a market for enhanced resolution sound formats, after all most Blu Ray films audio is now released in uncompressed 7.1 PCM.

Considering Blu Ray has become the defacto standard (poor HD DVD) I don't see why there are not either multi channel or for that matter two channel enhanced resolution Music Blu Ray Disks

SACD is the best thing that never happened. I have nice collection, but it's a dead end for new releases. Fetching astonishing prices these days.
Must confess I'm tempted to sell a few of my rarities.

For anyone like me who is a bit of an audiophile then can i recommend http://www.sa-cd.net/. It's update when new SACD's become available (not very often though). Ive got a Onkyo cs5vl which I love.

I also found: Nick Drake: A Treasury [HYBRID SACD] [Hybrid SACD] for the same price on Amazon, if anyone is interested - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0002TW732/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

I was really impressed with SACD when I bought some discs to try out on my fairly high end (but a cheap deal of course that I posted here) Pioneer DVD player that supported SACD and DVD-A.
But being used to playing music from a PC for years I just couldn’t go back to using discs again no matter how good it sounded.
I hope the touted HiDef compressed download format has a good enough quality to make it worth releasing and that it actually takes off.
The irony is that people often seem more concerned about the sound quality of films than of music which I find bizarre. Do I really care that the explosions that I hear in scene 8 have the proper bass and directionality!
Some of the SACD discs I bought and sold surprised me in how much they went for on eBay. I doubled my price on some of them especially the Stevie Ray Vaughan discs.

Honky has been this price on for around 12 months now, but none the less it's a cracking price for an excellent SACD! I hate Eltons music from the past 10 years or so, but his early stuff was great and love this album, and as an SACD release this is right up there with the best sounding IMO.

I am so thanks for the heads-up, almost bought this one so many times on amazon but only interested in the last track(the only multi-channel Stones track on SACD, and meant to be amazing!) so never bought it, but at that price.. will order.
[EDIT]Ah, that's a marketplace seller from the USA, always puts me off incase I end up receiving standard redbook cd, wouldn't be the first time.

Just to add, while SACD releases are certainly very few and far between these days(aside from stereo only MoFi and Japan SHM release which work out expensive), DVD-Audio is faring much better, with several recent releases including King Crimson and Rush with more to come, there is hope:)

If anyone has a copy of Depeche Mode Black Celebration SACD they want to sell cheap, please let me know :)
