Looks interesting. Anybody know what operating system this comes with and if it has a PCI express 16x slot for video upgrade ?

EDIT: I see the pic shows an MCE remote, so I assume Windows MCE2005. Anybody confirm ?
#3
tbc..it says for operating system..but a vista home premium upgrade is available so guess it's MCE that's onboard.

Decent spec for the price..seems these D805 CPUs are easily clocked.

More details on this link:
http://uk.emachines.com/products/products.html?prod=E4064#fn2

Seems to include a TV tuner and media centre remote, comes with XP media centre edition as the operating system.
It has a PCI-E x16 slot for a dedicated graphics card if you want to upgrade.

It looks a very good buy.

Superb buy... I don't think the Emachine is overclockable... But you never know... The processor is the excellent P D 805.... I was wondering whether the tuner is a DVB or a normal one... Any1 has any clue... I think I will buy 1.

How does it compare to the T180 DC @ £299 ? http://www.comet.co.uk/cometbrowse/product.do?sku=355232
#7
Very tempted by this but I'm concerned about the quality of eMachines. My Dad has one and has had nothing but trouble with it. Does anyone else have one, and if so how have you found it?
#8
#9
The T180 is more expensive, has no tuner and a smaller HDD. As far as it is a Dual Core... I don't care abt the speed.
#10
no monitor?
#11
Ext... You can get a 19-inch LCD monitor from Comet for around £120... Add both and you get a Dual Core computer for under £400. A real bargain... BTW, if anyone buys 1 of those computers, can s/he see whether the FSB speed can be bumped from 533 to 800 in the BIOS....
#12
we have a emachines we've had it for about 6 - 7 years now and we've never had any trouble with it we paid for extra insurance so it was covered for 5 years but we never used it.

Voted Hot

Just reserved one for collection at Chesterfield (Mansfield not available :x )

A lot better value that the Aldi £399 deal. or the Staples £299 Gateway

Great find

Cheers

Decent amount of Quidco with Comet as well. Great spot, OP, voted hot!

No Quidco on click & collect tho., and the delivery charge on home delivery wipes out the saving

unless I am misreading it?.

Just noticed that Stapes and Toysrus have some Gateway/Emachines with Dual Core Pentium D processors under £300. But they are lesser-specced as compared to the Comet one..
#17
thanks for that.Am not yet really good in posting deals yet.

Info on HDD and Ram is sparse...is it a SATA drive?..notice it is only 2mb cache..and is the memory DDR2?

hi everyone.as the base unit says tv tuner card.is the tv card analogue or digital?
#21
My local ASDA has what I believe is the E4056 for £249. I remember it having a P4 3.06GHz cpu and ATI Express 200 graphics but unfortunately thats as much as I remember of the spec.

Well this is worth the extra for a dual core Pentium CPU.

Just got back from Comet with one

Looks good, no time to play today, have to be at work at 2pm

Quidco says no cash on click and collect but got £1 from them for it :-(

Much depends on what your requirements are?...base units in this price range are usually restricted with basic quality graphics so there's not much to choose between them..I would say the only other worth consideration in this price range is the Acer £299.99 at Comet with the AMD dual core CPU

Bought my mum an E Machine a few years back. She had a hard disk failure but otherwise no problems. Not the quietest of machines or the coolest but does its job.

Drive is probably a SATA one.... It uses an Intel Motherboard, so you can expect it to be DDR2 only. If I could vote it extra hot or pipping flamming. I would..

Exactly what I've been looking for to replace my old dying desktop.

You can also get a upgrade (at shipping cost only) to Vista Home Premium by visiting

I had this "reserved" at my local Comet. When i got there, nothing for me:x. They just had the one, which was a display item. I didn't fancy this being touched by some snotty nosed kids. I had £300 + notes burning a hole in my pocket (got paid last week), so i went for the T180 Acer. If anyone is interested, the display model is £239.99. It is the only one available, at their Leicester St. Georges branch Tel.08705 425 425. Please ring and reserve, if you are interested, and make sure they save it for you!!
Thanks

Just a quick update on this one

cracked the case to check out the upgrade possibilities

+Point 1 2 IDE Ports, HDD on 1 DVD/RW on other both with 2 connector cables

+Point 2 4 Empty SATA Ports on motherboard

-Point 1 2 512mb Memory sticks with NO Empty sockets so upgrade requires getting rid of both original sticks.

No free PCI Slots, 56k modem in one, alalogue TV / Radio card in other, not really a problem I will swap the TV Tuner for my DVB one, and dump the 56k modem to free up a slot.

may upgrade the video card but as this is only being used as a media centre for TV may not be needed,

Adding 2 * 500gb Drives on the 2 spare IDE Channels,. and still leaves the 4 SATA for future upgrades.

Working the weekend but next week is time to play and see if BIOS can be overclocked!

All in all.. Bril deal. ... Great PC for a stunning price.

I take it there is still a free PCI Express slot though ? or is the graphics not on-board and using a PCI express slot ?

Hi

Yes there is a free PCIex slot for a graphics board, the onboard graphics are OK tho

It comes with the Full Media Centre kit as well for once

IR Remote control, + IR Reciever & Transmitter box with dongles for controlling external Boxes like Sky or Cable Freeview etc.

Has

So far very impressed,

I had a spare DVB & Satellite PCI board sitting around so ripped out the included Hauppauge WinTv PVR150 and put in the digital board.

The supplied TV Board has TV & FM antenna in ports, SVideo in and Composite in. so not a bad board but for me it was easier to lob in the DVB board I had rather than trying to set it up to control an external Freeview box.

FLASHYPHOTOS... any chance you can advise on noise? How quiet is it please? I know this is difficult because its very subjective but my latest HP cant be heard and the eMachine my Mum has (albeit 3 years old) isnt exactly quiet.

Any feedback greatfully received.

Cheers

Hi Kev

Re Noise,

One of the best,

I use it in a media centre enviroment so am very sensitive to noise, and it is whisper quiet (Except on power up when everything winds up).

I always liked the Medion Media Centre PCs as they used the whisper fans, but this is better,

found myself putting a hand over the PSU fan just to check it was running as there was no noise

also the HDD seems very well silenced,

Before this i tried one of the gateway £299.99 Staples units and the HDD noice was intolerable on that, this is silent.

If you are planning on using it in a media enviroment when you need silent running you will not have a problem,

hope that helps
#36
Cheers for that...this deal seems to just get better and better.

Hi, This eMachine seems to be a good buy. Do you know whether or not eMachines/Gateway allow for customers to open up their machines to fit additional DDR/DDRII, PCI/AGP cards etc. without voiding the warranty?.

Does this machine have a SATA hard disk drive and DDRII or PATA and DDR installed?.

Thank you.
#38
Already informed above that the HDD is IDE.
