I have never used Direct2Drive, does it register on Steam?

Dammit! I might just buy this instead of getting the DLCs, as long as it registers on steam that is.

This registers on Steam yes, you buy it and they give you the key to activate on steam.

I got a price alert from find-games.co.uk telling me this game had fallen to £14 at hmv. Was thinking about submitting that as a deal, but then I saw THIS!!!

WOW, amazing deal! oO

Seeing as the game is Steam-only anyway, there's not much point paying more for a disc copy since you cant resell it so I've gone and snapped this up.

Seemed to take some time to take payment thru paypal though...
"Your transaction is taking longer than expected to process. We apologize for this inconvenience! You will receive an e-mail confirmation/order receipt once it has completed. Thank you!"

...I did get the emails though so I guess everything's fine.

Cheap!

It's actually £6 if you use the "vatfree" (20% off) code during checkout.

Wow nice one didnt realise that was still in effect.

Can't believe this hasn't got more heat. 6 pounds is nothing for the GOTY editions of these games.

Christ that site is awful. Tried it in 4 different browsers on two different operating systems and it still doesn't work.

It leads me on a merry ride of logging in, adding stuff to basket then when I go to checkout, the stuff disappears. If I don't log-in until checkout as soon as I do log-in the stuff in the basket disappears again. If I can ever get to pay, the PayPal payment fails once I get passed back to the D2D site. So I tried a card and an automated system phoned me up and read out a pin which I had to enter on the site. Only for the site to complain that the pin can't be verified. RAGE!

If you want to use their support system, you need to create a new account just for the support: it can't use the same details. That site is incredibly amateurish.

EDIT: Ok, finally got it to work paying by card and waiting a good couple of minutes between the phone call and entering the pin. I used Opera on OS X.

#11
Loving it, I've actually bought this just for the DLC because its cheaper than buying the DLC seperately.
#12
Well this certainly helped make up my mind about getting some total war games. Great deal! :)
#13
Ok i also got the Rome Total (Gold) for £2 although i couldnt get that into Steam. With the other games i am downloading them now through steam but it doesnt say that they are the GOYR editions ? any ideas or reasons why?

If you right click the games in steam, click DLC and it should show that you have access to them via retail key.

CHEAP!!!

It's fine if you right click the game in steam it tells you all the downloadable content it comes with. And both Empire and Napoleon come with everything. :) HOT

Thanks scaredofpoo just noticed your comment

Excuse the stupid question, but I just bought this and have the two activation codes. How do I enter these in Steam to get it to download and install the games, or do I install them from direct2drive?

Okay, found out.
For anyone else wondering, here's the instructions:

Please follow these instructions to activate a new retail purchase on Steam:
1. Launch Steam
2. Click the Library ► Games menu at the top of the Steam window.
3. Choose Activate a Product on Steam.
4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the process.

Thanks!

Already had Empire Total War GOTY but fortunately Napoleon and Empire are activated via different keys so I can give it to my brother.
#19
why are people obsessed with getting this into Steam?

So when they reinstall it in 2 years time, they don't have to cock about logging into some crappy website that they only used for one game they bought in a deal in 2011.

Question for people who bought the game and activated through steam

since you get 2 activation codes does that mean you only get the base games (napoleon and empire total war) on steam or does it include the DLCs?

Hot!

When Half-Life 2 launched I hated Steam.
In recent years I have grown to love:
Instant patches
Friend and team lists
Incredibly simple and customised backup and installations
Very cheap game offers

So, despite the fact I hated it six years ago It is a beacon of light for PC gaming.
It solves a lot of tasks that would be incredibly difficult to manage on a 'per-title' basis.

Regarding the DLC content, I've just bought the game on D2D and added the codes into Steam. The games are downloading now. However when I select 'Empire: Total War' and then click on DLC, they're all listed as available to buy (£1.99 each), does this mean they are not included with the keys?

PS- I found the VATFREE code on another site, but listed as expired, so I didn't even try it! :-( Still £7.50 is a good price.
#28
Hot deal. But payment via Paypal looks awkward! My telephone authorisation has failed.
#29
Kudos to the poster for both deals

A true bargain at £6, 2 of my friends bought this deal too, along with the Medieval 2 Pack for £2.50

Now I need to stop buying games, in 7 days I have bought, Dawn of War 2, Dawn of War 1 Complete Collection, Killzone 3, Bulletstorm, and now 3 Total War games.....

With the VATFREE code, make sure you enter it manually and don't copy and paste it.

This deal should be a lot hotter imo. They're both GOTY editions and they work through steam, gonna buy this now as I have some cash in paypal.

Cheers op.

Great deal. I've bought them. Thanks.
