Hmm...dont get too excited that you have just grabbed the bargain of the day until you hear back from them as it looks like the web pages dont update stock levels so everyone and his brother may think they have a deal till Monday when the office sorts out who was first!
#5
Damn, saw some awesome deals and need a new comp!! :-(

You sure this is not for real? The "1 in stock" display seems not very promising, though it's a sure fire way to p*ss off your customers!!
#6
Well I ordered the £199 laptop, but I'm sure I'm not the only one!

It can't be hard to have real time stock info these days, especialy when you are dealing with one of items.

Hardly difficult to have the stock level go to "Sold out" when stock = 0... especially when all of the payment system is automated.

Going to be alot of disappointed people on monday.
#8
Don't worry, I'm not expecting the laptop. it's a bit like a lottery you have to bein it to win it :)
#9
I just ordered the laptop too, and they will favour me! Like an above poster says, will be a little weird if once it's bought it just stays there, what's the point, any database can display as sold out.

All out of stock a long time ago yesterday - just spoken to them on the phone

Hmm, you 100% sure? I might try something to get my own back on them.
#12
Yeah, I have just spoken to them on the phone, they opened at 10am. Best thing to do is to cancel your order otherwise your card may get charged, and refunded later.

That's what I want.

I went through quidco. Might order another couple of laptops  :-D :giggle:

The above is rubbish if I'm conpletely honest. May have been £1000 + 3 years ago. Not a good laptop. The £199 isn't great, but the price is a good one.
#16
Whooooosh..............

I phoned up to check the status of an order I placed for a laptop. Empire said they were having problems with their system..... I asked the guy on the phone to see if any of the Laptops were still available after about 5 mins the answer was that they were all bought for yesterday.

Apparently their IT guy has just arrived to try and sort out the system so hopefully later today the webiste will relfect the actual stock they have.

Clearance page has been updated and there is now a Celeron Acer laptop for £199.99.
#19

I bought the £199 laptop at about 2am with my credit card, when Mike T said it was a good offer. Won't be difficult to upgrade the memory if i am lucky enough, as someone thought it was not that great a deal.Up to now I have not recieved any cancelled order emails but I await with baited breath.
#22
Cancellation emails are going out now - the site has now been compleately updated and any lines removed

Still no cancellation email for me but i am sure someone said they were sold out during the day so still await the dreaded email. Were they just trying to get hits on their website do you think & most of the products never existed? A webpage would automatically change stock balances etc unless there was a way they could deliberately turn that function off for the weekend, although I am in no way implying that of course.

Empire were not trying to get hits on their site - they were getting ACTUAL money off us - which they will hold onto for about 10 days, thereby boosting their cashflow and earning a bit of interest too.
It all helps when you're running a business.
    #29
Unusual how they take the money then refund... Ah well tis fun torturing their salesmen with big words. Had one of them tell me no contract was created till they delivered the goods... Going to have fun putting that one down on an n1 claim form.
Called trading standards, the ISMN, registered a complaint with company house, the European Consumer InfoCentre, and Trading Standards... Worth winding them up in the hope of a an apology with some vouchers.. Often works. Not worth defending a law suit for £199.

    Are you being serious?!

I got told they are not taking any money. If they do, it's a different matter. I doubt they will though, they have obviously just had a problem, simple as.

If your going to that length, I suggest you forget it now, cus every one of those people you have rang is laughing at you.

I am not laughing, i think its about time someone bought these fraudsters to account. By the way, I guarantee they'll still keep your details on their systems even though they didn't fulfil your order (that's the scam!). they aren't a corner shop, their sytems are state of art to handle stock allocation etc. and its automatic (controlled by software!)

I find it a little strange that they were not taking the money in the first place as suggested by someone else. When I gave my credit card details i am sure the system would have known if i did not have sufficient funds in it for example. Anyway the system did a secure transaction which i am sure would have lowered my available credit card funds if even for a short while.Or can someone tell me if there is a delay once your card is accepted until they actually get allocated the funds? I am well confused. What I am trying to say is, if i had £210 left balance wise on my credit card & I used it for this transaction & saw something i fancied later on that day, I would not be able to buy it would I?
    #34
I've just checked, no money taken from my bank account
    #35
Had my cancellation - they said I ordered too late and was out of stock so I pointed out that the same computer I ordered was still for sale but not clearance price, it was full price at £200 more! Said I would accept that one instead, I await a reply!
    Did anyone get one?????????
