Bought one of these in Currys in Dunstable today. Thought it was a bargain at £49.97
It is one of their clearance items so I am not sure of store availablity. But I thought I would tell you all about it anyway. The cashier said they were previously selling for about £160 before the clearance. FYI the item number is 000668746.
It comes with an external 2.5 hard drive (these retail for about £30 on their own)

Emtec P800 HDD Movie Cube

Product Summary

Its effectively a hard disk drive (HDD) that stores multimedia stuff like MP3s and MPEG 4 movies. But it goes far beyond the abilities of a regular HDD.

For starters it also has a TV recording function using Freeview DVBT and Analog tuners. All the regular PVR features such as pausing live TV are naturally available.

However, the Movie Cube P800s recording function also allows you to record any input directly onto its hard disk, including DVD or VHS.

This being the era of high definition theres obviously a HDMI connection to offer a high transmission rate of audio/video signals.

An Ethernet port 10/100 enables data transmission in a local network and the Movie Cube can be used as a wireless gateway to access your multimedia files stored on Wi-Fi compatible PCs.

Can you confirm if it does 720/1080p x264/dvxa please?

I haven't opened up the box yet. But it has on the the box that it is HD 720p and 1080i compatible.

I will be setting this up later so I can confirm later what formats it can play.

A quick google picks up a couple of reviews saying decent bit of kit, let down by lack of h264 support

Good price if you're simply after a hard drive Freeview recorder, but not the perfect media centre that Emtec billed it as. Never £239.

I totally agree that £239 is a bit optimistic to sell this for. You would think they would through in a hdmi cable for that price.

I already have a freeview pvr, but what I bought it for was for the ability to record from any source and also the network capabilities. I can finally chuck away by old dvd recorder now.

I set this up last night. It doesn'y have mkv/x264 support unfortunately. It can play HD but only in AVI,etc

If you upgrade the firmware there is an option to turn the unit into a NAS.
