This important and timely book delivers a startling analysis of the clash of faith and reason in the modern world. The End of Faith provides a harrowing glimpse of mankind’s willingness to suspend reason in favor of religious beliefs, even when these beliefs inspire the worst of human atrocities. Harris argues that in the presence of weapons of mass destruction, we can no longer expect to survive our religious differences indefinitely. Most controversially, he maintains that “moderation” in religion poses considerable dangers of its own: as the accommodation we have made to religious faith in our society now blinds us to the role that faith plays in perpetuating human conflict. While warning against the encroachment of organized religion into world politics, Harris draws on insights from neuroscience, philosophy, and Eastern mysticism in an attempt to provide a truly modern foundation for our ethics and our search for spiritual experience.

You seem to have a bit of an anti-religion/anti-supernatural agenda going on, OP. First an anti-Mother Theresa book, then an anti-paranormal book, now this. This book sounds a bit of a bitter, tiresome rant to be honest. Does he ignore the fact that atheists like Stalin and the Chairman Mao killed millions more than any religion has? Best not to use HDUK to promote your own private agenda, especially when it's not a bargain.

I agree that this book seems to devalue rational thinking by promoting behaviour similar to the theists the author despises. I doubt this book will change the mind of anyone. I also agree this is not the forum for religious debate though I understand the frustration of atheists who see religion unchallenged and widely promoted across the media.

It does make me chuckle when people trot out the names of Stalin and Mao as if they are the poster boys of Atheism. They killed no one because they were Atheists they killed because through incompetent policies and political expedience and lastly because they were undoubtedly psychopaths.

Millions of people have on the other hand have been oppressed, bullied, hurt, injured and killed either directly in Gods name or because some one has used the words of the Bible to push through their own agendas.

As for the OP posting these deals here I agree it is a bit odd especially as they are not that cheap.

- why the need for this when you are criticising me for in your opinion having an anti religion agenda, bit of hypocrisy there.

For everyone else, vote cold, report or ignore me, simples!

Just an observation that books of this type often seem to me to be as selective with the facts as are the beliefs they condemn. It's just a bit weird that the only deals you have posted are for books which attack religion. No problem if they are bargains, but there are thousands of books on Amazon with similar discounts, you just seem very selective with the subject matter.

Yes because i havent been browsing the thousands of others books, im currently reading books from the other viewpoint of religion and spirituality issues which explains my current posts, ive read the bible and several other books from a religiously positive viewpoint, im just currently exploring the other viewpoint, if people are so offended by such a minor selction of posts then they need to re-evaluate their personal sense of security within themselves.

Lol. Amazon sell cheap books. We all know that. If all of us HDUK'ers posted a deal every time we read an Amazon book on our latest hobby, just because it was 50p cheaper than elsewhere, it would clog up the forum big style. You could have put them all in one post, or checked to see if they were significantly discounted (they are not), so instead it just looks like you have a viewpoint to promote. My personal sense of security is fine, thank you for asking.

Going by your idiotic rules this site would be empty. Even if i had some sort of viewpoint to promote i would do it regardless and there are no rules to stop me.

= delusion. I know people who i can ask to pray for you.

In that case I look forward to your next 'bargain'. Have a look on Amazon and see if they have any books on when to use capital letters in a sentence.

= very petty and shows your true character. If you had any brains you could study my profile history. Perhaps you should contribute a bit more to this site than the 2 posts in 21 months.

Hmm... your deals have really generated some heat haven't they? Read my posts and you will see they are usually constructive and informative. Your non-bargains simply confirm that you are using HDUK to promote your own views on certain topics. That's not what this site is about. Glad to see you have got the hang of the use of capitals at last.

On my ignore list now so sadly your wonderful new deals will have to pass me by.

Yes considering if they were so anti inflammatory as you suggest then they should be in the minus hundreds!

Ok explain how they do coz i sure as hell cant understand what gardening discounts have to do with a particluar personal cause.

Glad to see you have got the hang of the use of capitals at last.

Its a pity your parents allow you internet access.

On my ignore list now so sadly your wonderful new deals will have to pass me by.

FINALLY!!!
