hi newly registered and 1st post so fingers crossed i get it right.

was out yesterday looking for 32" tv for bedroom when i went into local argos extra and saw a couple of tvs on the shelf saying they were ready to take away there and then.i spotted a toshiba regza 32av615db for £311 and was quite happy to pay that.when i spoke to the manager he told me that from ttoday(fri 15th) a lot of display models would be given 50% off original marked price and as it was late afternoon he would honour that for me.the tosh was originally marked at £400(£311 was already discounted) so with the 50% i got it for £199 which i was very pleased to pay.tv came with remote and manual but no box and also where the security cable is at the back the half dome thing that it threads through was also stuck on there with super glue.no worries for me its at the back lol.12 months warrenty for faults only tho as ex display.

Good job you didn't pay £311 as can buy a new/unused one for example at £300 from Amazon :)

You are assuming the 50% off applies to ALL stores' display models or did the Manager confirm that ?

Northampton store (argos extra)and manager did say to me it would be all stores.not all models but ones with signs saying take away today would have 50% off.

just uploading better pic as that ones upsidedown.

Just a thought...would these "off the shelf" tellys not have been switched on for up to 10 hours or so every day for weeks/months? assuming they were on display

Good info for people!

Appreciate your (first) post - though personally I wouldn't pander to the "I won't get off my **** to do anything about the information you have so kindly spent time giving me until ...." brigade :-D

I think that HAS to be the concern with any ex-display equipment.
Some TVs firmware has a powered up counter in the (service) menus - though possibly mostly the plasmas ?

pretty sure there was a 26" with the sign but don`t quote me on that.they might have added a few more signs now.there was around 10 other sets in there including a sammy LE32B450 which unfortunately was not part of that deal yesterday or i woulda had that at half price.

and yes st peters sq.did look at the one by homebase 1st but they only mentioned a 33% discount when i went in there.they had about the same amount of sets in there.

doesnt matter as most lcd/plasma tvs should last 30000-60000 hours anyway which if 10hrs/day equates to approx 8 years to 16 years life......cheap nasty ones from asda or murphy ones probably last about 1 hour though

I got an ex-display 32" Hitachi from argos last december and it's still going strong and it's on for at least 10/14 hours a day if not longer  ( I know thats a lot, but there is always someone in watching it or they just leave it on when they go out, no matter how many times I tell them:x)

Is that the Sixfields store or one of the ones in town?

We fancied a telly in Argos last week - and it was out of stock so we asked if we could purchase the display model and we were told no as they were sent back to the manufacturer - so am a bit cross now - grrrrrrrrrr!!!!
#16
sent back to the manufacturer = member of staff bought it

Good deal! Hot!

Why expired? Has someone checked every Argos store?
#18
i have checked the 2 wigan ones and the bolton rebook

there are some 32 sony's left - and depending on store they are either 265 or 303

have reserved one - but now convinced myself i dont need a spare 32 inch TV
