An Energenie Extension Lead, with a Raspberry Pi controller board.

Was looking to extend my collection of Energenie bits (going a bit gadget crazy since I got my Amazon Echo) and was going to buy the Extension Lead.

The lead is available from Amazon at £25.95 ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/Energenie-Trailing-Controlled-Protected-Sockets/dp/B003JT088S/ ), but this combo is cheaper and includes the Raspberry Pi controller which retails at around a tenner ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/Energenie-Pi-mote-Remote-Control-Raspberry/dp/B00P3JIUQO/ )

Great deal I thought!

Do you need to purchase anything else to connect to echo?

Yeah, you need the Energenie gateway. ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/Energenie-MIHO001-Gateway/dp/B00V52HTXS/ref=pd_sim_23_4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=N6KGM16XAFQRQJH70EHC )

Just be aware that the range of the Energenie gateway is not that good. Adapters around 15m away don't reliably turn on. Or off, for that matter.

I have this issue. None of my plugs work reliably.

What do people actually use these for after the novelty wears off? I would find it as quick to turn a light on manually in my home as it would be to get my phone/controller out and do it using that. The same goes for most devices. If I power down many things in my house via the socket I'd then have to manually turn them on again after the mains power has been returned.
