I bought a load of these earlier. I (stupidly) just assumed this had been posted already as it's been around ages.

I stocked up when they were 1p each at tesco...
Bought 200 assorted - gave loads away to family and have loads left.

Brought some GE 20 Watt Spiral Bulbs in Tesco yesterday. I was going to buy one the day before in Homebase as they are on offer for £1.99 each instead of £3.99.

They are 20p each in Tescos at the moment!

I went to Asda & B&Q today (both Portsmouth) and they were ALSO 10p each!

What are modern energy saving bulbs like? I only have one in my house bought a couple of years ago and I hate it as takes a few minutes to get fully bright. Not useful if just going into the room for a moment.

Each generation seems to get brighter quicker and smaller, but you won't have the choice much longer anyway as incandescent bulbs will be banned from 2012.

Heat added, hope to find some bulbs that can be dimmed be it as Tesco or as another member has highlighted, Asda - paid a little over £2 for one for a light that needs three.

Thanks for making this thread brum.

What will people with dimmer switches use when the 'old style' bulbs are phased out?
I don't think there is a replace yet is there ?

dont think you can buy these any cheaper. i had to buy them for £5 each, but saved me money regardless as my normal ones use to go off every month and i had to replace them costing me lots as i had lots of spotlights in my house

Whereabouts were they from as most seem to be £7+ with a 50watt equivalent output, thanks

Anyone know if dimmable low energy ones are available cheap?
I need about a dozen dimmable low energy bulbs - my current ones set me back about £10 each!
(so much for making savings using the low energy bulbs)...

The newer ones are much brighter right from switching on.

Thanks, maybe I should look into them again then.
Although might as well wait until my current ones go!

Tesco deal (very good variety of bulbs) is still on in Stafford - bought a load today between 8 & 20p. Our ASDA had a few earlier in the week but nowhere near as good a deal...

I got some, but they were all bayonet, and nearly all my lamps are screw fitting and I dont use the "big light" lol.

For the sake of 10p per bulb?

The powergen/tesco bulbs are made by General Electric by the way folks,

and according to spec sheets are 2700k so those who know what I mean may get what I mean *wink*wink*
