Chinese Lanterns (also sometimes referred to as floating Lanterns or paper lanterns) are unique, longer lasting and safer than fireworks. Chinese Lanterns rise to heights of over 300 meters and travel for miles. Chinese lanterns are made of non-flammable bio-degradable paper and stand over 90cm tall. They take approximately 30 seconds to fill with hot air before the lanterns are ready to be released into the sky, creating an impressive and eye catching visual effect.

In recent years Chinese lanterns have become extremely popular with people using Chinese Lanterns at garden parties, birthdays, weddings and other memorable occasions. Another more recent trend is to use the Chinese lantern for remembering our past ones and as almost sending a wish into the sky and make our past ones aware that they are not forgotten.

PS This can also be used as a "Pope Hat" - but only if you have an especially large head ;-)

They are so environmentally friendly that our local drug dealers have taken to using them instead of fireworks to alert the scag-heads that there is more gear in stock

EDIT: not the England ones though...I mean lanterns not drug dealers...they could be English though

been told off a number of times by neighbours due to a few "minor mis-haps", but still, these are loads of fun...when they eventually get going.

for maximum enjoyment attach three together with string. you'll need a large field without trees, 2-3 people to open out each the lanterns (or according to our local newspapers "UFO's") while 1 lights the wick or wax

as for the pope hat idea (no doubt someone will attempt it), you would need a candle (or 3) attached to you head for it to inflate. heat added

Total urban myth.

AFAIK, there has NEVER been a single case of a fire being started as a result of one of these things landing in a field NOR a case of cattle being killed.

It's sad that most people seem only too happy to believe the nonsense and scaremongering dreamed up by most tabloid newspapers in a last ditch attempt to sell papers by scaremongering.

And, as for the littering, these are actually marked as being biodegradable.

Well said, my friend.
Mine arrived Monday.
I'm sending some up(with help from my teenagers) on the eve of the Slovenia game,
and as it says on the wrapper ( translated from Chinese!)
"Light Up The Dream Of Your Heart".
If we all believe,it might just happen!!
