Sorry but not so hot once they take a 10% cut of your catering spend, disco, florist, bar and lighting and that's just those I can remember! Oh and also you're restricted to their approved suppliers so that 10% is not even a cut of a good value supplier that you've sourced independently, it's one that's overpriced to begin with!

Also if you're thinking of hiring one of these venues i'd avise you to check out the list of 'rules' before you sign on the dotted line as they vary from no red wine on the premises to no high heels. Imagine adding a p.s. to your invite asking ladies to wear trainers or flip flops only!

I speak from experience - we had Eltham Palace booked for our wedding which was in October 2005. Luckily I was able to get my deposit back on the grounds that they didn't make all the terms of hire clear to us at the time. I agree that these are fantastic venues but nothing can ruin the mood of planning your big day knowing that you are being ripped off!

Sorry - have to vote cold.

Hot, having just finished looking at wedding venues 2 weeks ago, this is a decent offer.

Be careful when arranging your civil ceremony at an approved venue. You will generally not only have the venue fee to pay, but also a seperate Registrar fee which your local Council will be able to confirm for you. We recently got married at Oakwell Hall, in Birstall, West Yorkshire which was beautiful and exclusive to our wedding only that day (even some of the approved buildings can feel a bit like a production line, but not Oakwell Hall). The fee for the venue was completely seperate to the Registrar attendance fee which in itself was nearly £300. Check it all out before you commit to paying.
