EON: TV Powerdown (Turns off extra equipment when TV is off) £3.00 inc Delivery

cramarcramar

EON are selling the TV Powerdown socket for £3.00 including delivery again!

I've had one for a while, and it's fine - it turns off any additional home entertainment devices when you turn your TV off (works via your TV remote control)

Well worth getting for £3.00 including delivery IMHO!

Don't forget to add the free ShowerSave, whilst you're there!

I have a similar item for the computer, which I find very useful.

I have an 6-way socket plugged into it, so with one push of the TV remote (at the sensor) the computer, router, Virgin box, printer, monitor all go off easily, after a proper computer shut down of course.

Same for the TV / DVD / set top box

Just as a matter of interest, how much does a TV on standby cost to run all night, and a computer etc ... it's probably just micro-pennies or maybe more.

Pretty sure a TV on standby will still use around 2/3 watts of electricity, converting that into £'s depends of course on your tariff.

Some are as low as one watt now, less than two quid a year.

The big screen TVs are better left in standby mode for the longevity of the internal power boards.

Just switch everything off at the socket. Do you really need your DVD player to tell you the time?

Agree, it gotta be just as easy and probably even safer if the switch is physically switched off.

I got the pc version of this, works brilliantly. I also have this one but had to stop using it within a week or so, it kept turning itself off and on randomly all the time. Not saving any energy if it keeps turning on at night and leaving everything on all night!

how much power do these things use ? gotta use something surely?

    0.5W power usage.

And this device does not use any energy?

Unfortunately things are not black and white. Depending on your TV and your other devices, this may very well be worth it, or may not be. Personally I prefer the master/slave device they sell as a "PC power saver".

So what we need is another device to turn this power saving device off, rather than leaving it in standby ;)

Then we'll need another to switch that on standby...vicious circle.

I got one of these from eon last year - irritating side effect is that my 40 inch G20 Panasonic plasma will turn itself off on a regular basis when displaying dark scenes for more than a minute or so.Doesn`t do it when connected directly to the mains, so must be something to do with this plug. It has been suggested that as Plasmas use less energy to produce dark images, the plug may be fooled into thinking the plasma has been put in standby, and therefore automatically turns everything off !. Happened 4 times during American Horror yesterday !!!
