That has to be a bargain £38 for 2 burner plus side burner. I see it has porcelain enamelled grill too! Probably flimsy and won't last many summers but at that price who cares.

Does anyone know anywhere cheap to get a gas cylinder for this type of bbq?
#3
eBay, freecycle, or you may be lucky at the local tip - then get it refilled if it is empty.

My local refilling agent is also happy to swap different sized bottles, so I have changed all mine to the larger ones, which makes refilling them cheaper per KG of gas.

I got a gas for £27 for the gas and another £30 odd for the bottle itself (13kg), so the gas ended up being more expensive than the BBQ...

Some of the BnQ's carry gas.

Try your local builders merchants, look on Ebay or freecycle for an empty cylinder, the gas for ours cost £14

Ok great stuff, thanks for your help.

girlfriend's dad has this, the rust damage is unreal given that he's only had it a couple of years. Seems to be a decent BBQer just totally cheap and don't expect it to survive too long!

Makro
£28.56 for cylinder and £21.99 to fill
Expensive but cheaper than B&Q i think

I have one of these. The gas bottle cost more than the BBQ. It does feel a little "cheap", that said I paid about £40 for it, and can't complain. You can get a BBQ cover for it in Asda for a fiver too. Heat added.
#10
heat added but I think i'd rather pay extra and get one that will last a good number of years. Don't want to contribute to the' throw away culture' a lot of people are getting accustomed to

Got a small spare (but empty) cylinder available for free in North Cardiff if anyone requires one.

Rust damage after a couple of years is to be expected if the BBQ isn't properly covered or kept inside, at the end of the day for an economy gas BBQ I think its a cracker. I do know someone who has one almost identicle and he says it is great and hasn't rusted at all!!

I picked up a cover to fit mine in Poundland.

I have this bbq but paid alot more for it 5/6 years ago.Mine hasn't rusted as it is kept in the shed and only taken out in the summer then used with a cover.Great price:thumbsup:

Best bargains are end of season if you can wait, i got a £200 BBQ from Homebase for £50 last year when they were clearing stock to make way for winter items
#18
I wonder if it is worth coating this with heat proof paint to reduce chance of rust?

If you buy a gas cylinder from Homebase etc be careful as they will not exchange it for a new cylinder when it is empty unless you have the original purchase receipt so stick it to the cylinder so you don't lose it.
#19
Stay away from Homebase & B+Q they are a rip off on gas
#20
can i use natural gas, will it work ok,
#21
Don't think you can put lava rocks in it, so not much use for barbecuing. More of an upside down grill.
#22
reserved thx
#23
Note the comment on the Argos site from somebody saying that you can't put in lava rocks etc. So it seems to be more like a gas cooker outside rather than any 'charcoal' effect cooking....
#24
Can you use lava rocks in this? If not what is the taste like compared to traditional coal bbqs? I would quite like to get this but love smokey burgers!

Edit: Oops hadn't refreshed the page, now see the posts re not able to use lava rocks.

FloGas is cheaper that B&Q and Homebase. You can buy online (free delivery) http://www.flogas.co.uk/buy-online/gas-cylinders/ or use their local stockists.

But Calor is cheaper than FloGas
from the calor website - 13KG of "Patio gas (Propane) is £25.99
11KG of "Leasure gas (Propane) from FloGas is £27.65

Also, on the FloGas site, it says..
"Please note that any Flogas cylinder 11kg and below (excluding the Leisuregas 9kg & 11kg) can be used in exchange for this cylinder"

So if I had an empty Leisuregas 11KG bottle, i cant swap it for a full one!?!

All of yours, how many do you have?!!
#28
4 13KG cylinders!

Always good to have spares - you really need two, so you can use one until it is totally empty, then switch over to a full one, then get the empty one filled at your leisure!

sizzling! :-D

if you live in the north east area, there is a way to get the BBQ cheaper:

go to game or gamestation, buy COD: MW on both X360 and PS3 for £9.98 each and COD: WAW on any console for £11.99 = £31.95 {all PREOWNED}

argos trade in games for vouchers worth £12.50 each for the above games, list of games + trade in values below. I havent been through the list fully, but theres a few £12.50 trade in prices there. just be sure to call & confirm the prices first.

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/StaticDisplay/includeName/trade_in_old_video_games.htm

so 3 x £12.50 vouchers = £37.50

there is probably room to get the price down more through searching for pre-owned prices against what argos is offering.

Good Idea, but not all Argos do the trade in's unfortunately. None in Scotland by the looks of it.

heat added-just to get it off the 666 mark!!!

Look in the Yellow Pages for bottled gas suppliers. Some will not charge for the bottle. I recently bought a 14kg bottle for £21 and a 7 kg for £17. You must also check the size of gas adapter that your bbq uses. I have a portable gas bbq and a garden one and I found that if you change the gas fitting adapter (about 7 or 8 quid each) to the same size ( I use 21mm which has an orange cap) then you can run domestic items on commercial calor gas butane or propane bottles. Hope this helps
#34
Heat added, im after a BBQ at the mo so might pick one of these up.
#35
for anyone in glasgow looking for a full gas bottle try the gasman 647 9326 free delivery and doesnt charge for the bottle you just pay for the gas
#36
£38 for a whole summer's bbq-ing..those one use disposables don't stand a chance!
#37
built mine today, not the nicest thing to build, and the material reminds me of the cheaper end computer cases. But seems pretty rugged when built and as stevemac1 says, I'm sure it'll work out more cost effective than disposables!

I'm may throw some lava rock under the grill and around the tent to try enhance the flavour.
#38
Hey let us know if that works. I reckon the lava rocks need to get heated to smoke off any fat to put some BBQ flavour in to it.

Or we could try smoke marinade!!

I bought one of these then went to buy the gas and was told £58 - ouch!:w00t:

Asked on freegle and got an empty butane gas cannister. Took this to Wyevale who exchanged for Propane same size (15kg) for £28.

Now just need to put it all together and cook.

Heat added.
#40
Just back from hols and need to sort Propane, any idea what size the regulator is that ships with the BBQ... and where I can buy lava rocks (are lava rocks just bbq charcoal?)

edit: 27mm & I'm not doing Lava Rocks as Ive read things that put me off... i'll try without first!
