Are the cheap compatible carts any good though? some reviews on svp seem to suggest otherwise.

Refilled cartidges are rubbish. There's every chance that they'll screw up the head on the printer, screw up the colours on your prints and run out quicker than the genuine article.

Reasonable price, cheap carts too, ideal if ya off to uni.. after the hols etc... sadly though this is one NOISEY bleeder of a printer. :s
#14
you get this printer free with any iMac or MacBook just now, well as a £60 rebate. Does involve cutting barcodes of the boxes though if you can be bothered doing that.

We're not talking refilled cartridges here, we're talking about copied cartridges. I have always owned Epsons and I have always bought Epsons for my customers (I run an IT business). Only on a couple of occasions have the ink heads blocked up completely through the use of copied cartridges, and that was when the printer had not been used for a couple of months if not more. What I've found is that there is varying quality between the copied inks, both in terms of print quality and heads blocking up, as there are now tonnes of different makes (nearly all Chinese imports).

My advice is to find a copied "brand" that you like and stick to it if possible. My Epsons have never blocked up fully and I'm only an occasional colour inkjet user. I have supplied this model of printer/scanner to people at twice this price when they first came out, and they are excellent if a little noisy as someone has already said. Bargain.

And then you get the tit who should be on disability living allowance as they are so braindead they are unable to search and find out if something has been posted before. Then they feel the need to tell everyone else how inferior they are because they can do a simple search.

You seem to be making a few assumptions about people there aberfal; imagine if someone were to assume you are a cretin because you don't seem to know about apostrophes nor when to use 'their' in its proper place the written word? How would you feel? Misrepresented perhaps? Get yourself a book on Eugenics - you'll love it.

Bought this ...ahem...last week it after was first posted on here. Quite impressed. It is noisy and slower than I expected but was a great priced replacement for my 8 year old HP printer which has finally given up the ghost.
#23
I saw 3 of these in Weymouth this morning (23rd) if that is helpful to anyone
#24
I looked into Epsons a while back when I wanted a CD printer - the RX200 and upwards had mixed reviews - ink that evaporated even when not in use - it literally leaked out of the cartridge into some drip tray and frequent smudging of the paper/disk rollers. Are these any better or are you having to budget for frequent ink cartrdige replacements?

Totally agree, at least aboout posting deals. It's just too much hassle. This used to be a good community, but people have become so aggressive and over zealous that posting a deal is now an invitation for a bitter personal attack that you end up getting the blame for.

I'll still use the site, and I'll still post, but it really has gone down the pan from what it used to be.

But I guess that's just people for you, and is a reflection of society today.

This is a very good deal it seems, but can someone offer advice for a printer newbie. Looking for high quality colour prints, and custom CD/DVD covers & sleeves for home projects, would this be ideal? Or can anyone recommend a different printer that would suit?

My r200 still does cd/dvd's but wont feed paper :x .ive run it on the compatible inks from svp from day 1. sold the ones that came with it on ebay straight away. When SVP did deals on the inks i think it cost less than £5 to replace all 6 inks, a fantastic printer , just wish id bought a spare at the time.

great to see an epson for this sort of money, its normally lexmarks

Anybody know if this prints on CDs? thanx

So true. Even if this was posted before, it has clearly alerted people (who dont have the time to be constantly monitoring posts) to a deal they value. Why some people seem to delight in being mean and aggressive when the spirit of the post is to help others is beyond me.:?

Even copied cartidges can be the same. My wife had an oldish Canon printer which ran really well up until the very day she bought a copy cartridge. First the colours came out all wrong then she got a replacement cartidge and the next day it was just dead. It's not like she only used it occasionally either as it was used almost daily. I used to work for a company which serviced printers and there was almost a daily occurrence of people calling with ink spilt inside their printer or toner inside the printer as well. This wasn't with silly little desktop printers either, these were printers worth up to thousands of pounds which are built to do thousands and thousands of prints a day for long periods of time without falling over. It was always without fail non-genuine or refilled cartridges/toners. Yes you save money but it WILL shorten the life of your printer and chances are you won't get the right results when printing photos and so on.

Sure you'll save a few pounds with refilled or non-genuine carts but it will cost you in the end.

I have one of these and it works fine.

But as others have said, it is a VERY NOISY printer.
#32
Be aware ink cartridges are puny, they are only 5.5ml of ink, an absolute disgrace. At least it seems the compatibles are cheap.
Only buy this printer on the basis you will use compatibles.............

Seems to have expired my friends - Price now is £56.37.
