I own an R220 which I purchased at the beginning of the year for around £80. It's a top printer and this one is even better!

Voted hot.

They have been this price in boots for the last 6 months. The 240 doesn't print to DVDs BTW so the 220 is better IMO.
#4
Also add that very cheap ink cartridges can be bought from svp.co.uk I bought three sets for around £13.
#5
Ahh well the lack of DVD printing does set it back a bit then.. I use my 220 mainly for printing on DVDs. However if you are just looking for something to do photos I would reccommend this printer.

is that a consistent price for ink for this printer?

As in...if i do a load of photo prints it only costs £13 to replace all the ink?
#7
I thought that new epson printers do not take compatible inks anymore???!!! Is this true?

actually it cost me £13 to replace ALL the inks THREE times in my R220.

this printer doesnt need as many inks as the R220, it uses four while the R220 uses six. however this is good for the price of ink as you can pick up a full set (four carts) for £3.45!
http://svp.co.uk/products-solo.php?pid=2126

as for Epsons not taking compatible cartridges im not too sure.. im 99.999% sure this printer will take compatible carts.

It depends on the manufacture date of the printer, but the compatible inks are generally much more expensive if the manufacture of the printer was after March this year. If you're after cd printing in a new printer at a similar price, look for the R260, but the same date rule applies.

Yes m8 they have trouble with cheap compat ink's now these machines... I would buy the 10x better cannon
#11
Liked Epson - really like the Canon's now ! Great pics ! I have a 2-3 year old Pixma IP4000 which uses Poundland carts with superb results !

Can anyone confirm if this printer can take compatibles like the SVP suggested above?

Can anyone confirm if this printer can take compatibles like the SVP suggested above?

Yes it does (I have this printer and it is excellent).

The Epsom printers that have problems with compatable inks are the ones that take the new inks, for example the R265 and then it's only the later versions, see info below on the compatability of those that take the new inks.

How will I know if my printer will accept the compatible T801 – T806 inks?
This all depends on when your printer was manufactured by Epson.
- If your printer was manufactured before 01 March 2007, then our current compatible inks will work.
- If your printer was manufactured after 01 April 2007, then the current compatible ink cartridges will not work with your printer.
- If your printer was manufactured during March 2007, then the current compatible ink cartridges may or may not work, it all depends if you have the newer R265 version of printer. The compatibles only work with the
earlier, older version.

it does like most ink cart suppliers have now got around the Epson problem.

Check here..

http://www.prink.co.uk/ink-cartridges/pages/epsondx4000.htm

Still a problem for DX40000 although they now do special compatables at a higher price

but the same supplier does not mention this issue for this printer

http://www.prink.co.uk/ink-cartridges/pages/epsonr240.htm

So it does look like this printer will take cheap compatables

Not very economical when you think the ink refills will cost more that the printer! Crafty beggars they are.

The shop I use for my compatible ink does a lot of the new versions so no compatibilty problems for me so far .

The girl that worked there says that they are bringing a new type of cartridge which has a chip that clips on so that when epson keep changing chips they can keep up with them .

I just checked there price list for this printer and you get 3 sets of 4 for £20 its just a shame they dont do online :0)

For those in glasgow area it the shops in in the inshops at the forge shopping cenre.
