Considering the price of a set of Epson compatible inks for £6 at ukdvdr.co.uk (for 'R' range photo inkjet printers), I would consider looking for one of those printers. I would imagine you would pick one up in the region of £60-£80 (I paid £80ish a year or so ago for my PhotoR200) and I have had flawless performance from it. They take 6 inks aswell which means I only change the light Magenta when it shows as empty (not the whole pink range in one cart). In all I have spent less than £50 on ink for this and my wife uses it for business too.

Pays to invest in a slightly more expensive printer if the long term ink costs are going to be lower. You usually get extra features also (CD/DVD printing and pict bridge direct printing (just plug your camera in)).

In short your on the right track with Epsons because good value inks are available from third party manufacturers. Don't buy the printer because it is cheap though as you might find with a bit of digging that your long term investment could be lower.
