I think Asda had the 4400 for £25, the 4450 is almost twice as fast and all round is a much better machine.

Voted HOT as this is cheap ........

Regarding the ink question, this uses 4 different cartridges so you only need to change the colour that has run out rather than all three colours (and black) at once. Genuine Epson cartridges are around £20 for a complete set of 4, generics are about 1/3 of that.

I've just ordered the printer myself, but saw cheap inks on SVP too. Does anyone have any recommendations for cheap ink suppliers for this printer?

Nope, it's a standard USB printer cable. From memory it's defined as a A to B USB cable, couple of quid for a 2m long one.

so i take it i could pick one up for less than £10 and will it be ok for a laptop...sorry never bought a printer before!!!

Any USB>printer (and many other pieces of hardware) cable will do. About $3.50 delivered on dealextreme.com or a few quid on ebay! Avoid the £9.99 cable at all costs.

Brought the DX4400 from Asda when they were on offer, its quite slow and noisy when printing. Although it's still good for the price if you need an all-in-one.

Thats rubbish... the 4400 is exactly the same printer as 4450!!

the 4450 simply comes with free OCR software.

Please dont give out misleading infomation!

I currently own an r200 and an epson scanner, only reason I can think that puts me off this is the fact it cant print onto cds?

I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago from PC World and used a discount code from hotdeals and got another 5% off with free delivery. A very good deal as it came to 28.49, but its back up in price there by a tenner.

The print quality is very good for photo and text, although it is noticably longer to print a page of text on the exact same settings as my last epson printer (R220), almost twice as long in some cases but then again the print quality is much better.

The build quality of the printer itself is solid and feels more expensive and although bigger than my last printer it appears to take up less space due to the squarer shape.

The scanning and copying are also very good, giving good quality scans of the photos i scanned, enlarged and printed.
Copying can be used with the PC off, but you have more options (quality, amount etc) with it on.

Unbranded Ink is cheap (under £6 for pack of 4 at svp), just make sure its version 5 or the latest versions of the unbranded ink your buying (if off ebay etc), and also worth noting is the first time you use unbranded ink you will have to replace all 4 carts, regardless of how much ink you have left in your original epson ones. You only have to do that once and then you can change one cart at a time after that, but maybe worth while buying more than one set when you buy the unbranded.

USB cable can be picked up for as little as a £1, never buy the "add on" cables from dixons or pc world, they are not any better quality than the cheap ones and very overpriced.

It does seem to use more ink than my last epson, but im still on the free carts so only time will tell as they tend not to have as much ink in them as a fresh new set.

A bargain at this price, especially as you can buy cheap ink carts for it and are not limited to more expensive ink like other brands of printer

Good post, repped. Yep looks like it's now out of stock.

@Pan111, as far as I know Dixons don't trade offline now (all rebranded Currys) so this is online only.

Having just Googled this, you are correct. I was told that the DX4450 was faster when I bought my DX4400, that was obviously wrong.

Should I now nail myself to a crucifix or will this simple apology be OK for you ?

This machine is £29.99 virtually everywhere on the high street! I buy all my printers from staples as i have family who work for them and i know they have it for £29.99 and have had for weeks now. I know genuine inks are about £24 a set of four but if you buy it from staples you will get a ream of good qality inkjet paper for free or a £5 reduction when purchased with the printer, choice is yours! and for a limited time a pack of 6x4 high gloss photo paper for free also :w00t:

Just found it 4p cheaper in John Lewis, for those of you that have missed this one...
