Amazon are doing this all in one wifi printer for less than most people seem to be selling the non wifi. The Wifi version appears to be £100+ elsewhere

usually despatched in 3-5wks!

ink cartridges seem reasonable - any reviews, as I cant find any - any one know what it is like?
#2
Great price now but be aware that there's a 3 to 5 week wait. Maybe Amazon are privy to a general price drop.

A more direct link http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B001ELK9NC/ref=pd_luc_mri?_encoding=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

Hmm I could with a printer, don't know anything about any of them though and there's so many about :-/

These are at PC World for £69.99, so could also price match this.

Apparantly it is also very noisy when taking the paper from the tray when printing.
#5
The pc one for 69.99 is the standard version. The wifi version on http://www.pcwb.com is £123

Hot!!! Great price!!! H&R

You cant price match amazon anymore, pcworld just removed alot of retailers from the PM list including...
ebuyer, amazon, dabs, dell, evesham and some others. Not great really, at least play still remains. Good price, will consider buying it as i need a wifi printer

I didn't spot the 3-5 weeks delivery - ordered on Sunday and it was dispatched today - looks like it's expired now.

#12

£22 + VAT for genuine epson pack: http://www.inkemporium.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_STYLUS_SX405_746.html

Not bad, anyone see any compatibles for a reasonable price?
#18
You can use any set of compatible 711, 712, 713, 714 cartridges as long as they have Generation 6 chips. About £2.50 per cartridge generally.

you can, but will regret it in the end if you're printing photos.

in fact, this is not a decent photo printer, it only has 3 colours + black.

the RX585 can be had for not much more, and has 8.

So, how does this work? Say I have WIFI in my house, do I just need to install s/w on each PC/laptop and Bob's yer uncle, when its switched on you can print straight to it?

Have an Epson R300 that is goosed, will this be a worthy replacement?

That was quick, ordered a few days ago and arrived this morning via CityLink, despite being Supersaver delivery!

RX585 has 6 inks including black, not 8 and it doesnt have wifi.

Got it setup now and printed a photograph A4 on glossy paper - looks great!

The Wifi aspect has a wee print server box which attaches via USB to the printer and comes with a transformer that you plug in, so you need two plugs, one for this, one for printer.

When you install the drivers on your PC or MAC (two separate install disks), it finds your wireless network and you just type in the KEY. Gets assigned an IP address from your router using DHCP.

You install the s/w on all PCs that are going to use the printer.

Each PC then has s/w called MFP Manager and you "connect" to the printer when you want to use its functions. This times out after 5 mins (settable), so that a different PC can access it.

I had mine delivered in the week. No one was in so they put it over my locked gate - which is some 7 foot high! I can't see anything broken. Tried to set it up yesterday evening and finding the wifi a real pig. I'm no expert on wireless networks but normally get things going ok - it is replacing another wireless printer. I can actually connect to the printer via the wifi and even get it to print maybe a third of a page before it disconnects the printer for some reason - I've tried changing the channel on the router but that hasn't helped.
In general it seems ok. Printing seems quick compared with other printers I've had which is good. I've not printed any photos to check the quality but I won't generally be printing photos. I notice Argos are doing a wireless HP printer for £80 but I think I will persevere with this as the ink should be much cheaper.

I posted on the dupe posting of this but thought I should update this thread also. I did get this sorted after emailing Epson, I had to disable start up groups as one of the start up programs was conflicting with the Epson software ( you can still start the programs manually). I now need to add back each start up program to find out which is the problem and leave diabled. The printer comes with an Edimax wireless print server PS-1208MSG which appears to be the same as the PS-1206 MSG which retails for about £50 on it's own.

This is a good printer for the money, but as previously said setting up the WiFi is a real pig (I still havent got mine working properly after spending the Weekend on it). I havent tried Epson support yet , but the manuals are about as good as a chocolate teapot and seem to have important info missing from the setup.

As I work in IT I do know what I am doing (most of the time).

I will keep trying with the WiFi but if all else fails I may get a Belkin Network USB Hub (£35) which will only bring the cost of the printer up to similar models but will allow me to connect another printer, external harddrive etc. to my network.

As to the ink, you can get a set of refillable cartridges and some bottles of ink for about £30 on ebay which makes it less that 50p per refill. With two children of school age the quality of these are fine (They even make the Jonas Brothers look good)

All in all I am happy with the deal I got, but Epson should tell you that the WiFi is a seperate unit.

(Hope this helps)

Advent85, it would be worth sending Epson support an email. You may need to persevere as the first response I had from epson was a link to the edimax manual to which I replied that I had already read the manual and there was no reference to my problem. I then got a detailed response which was very helpful and solved the problem. Are you having a particular problem or will it simply not work at all?
I note the price has been going up and down a bit, I looked a couple of days ago and it had gone up to around £88 but is back down to £69.10

I have got the printer working but alas not through the WiFi only using a LAN connection to my wireless router, but none of the other PC's on the network can see it.

I will do as you suggested and send Epson support an email, thanks for the advice.
