This is an okay printer in terms of quality - I just bought one this week. It's also fast at printing. Don't bother buying a USB cable as one comes in the box. WIFI is good but all the control has to be from the PC and you can't, for example, scan to a memory card or scan multiple pages easily since you need to click buttons on the PC, go back to the printer, change page and then go back to the PC. I've not got through a set of ink yet but looks to be expensive to replace.

Yes I agree, just think the price should be amended in title.

HOT! Why was this voted super hot when around £50 at Amazon earlier this year and is not the same now.

Scanning can be done from the computer with no buttons to be pushed on the scanner - I do it all the time!

Inks are mega cheap and individual colours, I get mine at http://www.inkemporium.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_STYLUS_SX515W_806.html
a full set of compatibles is £4.55 + VAT, yes all four! Plus delivery is free.

Thanks for the link for the inks. What I meant about the scanning was you can't scan just at the machine - you have to do it through the PC. This means that if whereas you can print from a card or another room, when you want to scan you really need the machine and computer next to each other. It's much easier to scan if you can control the scanning from the machine.

You can get the inks much cheaper than that on ebay.
e.g Three full sets ( 12 cartridges in total) for £5.99 delivered. Thats buy-it-now , not an auction ( item 250699013538 ).
Or one full set for £2.79 delivered.

I got one of these, I also bought an ink resetter tool and found a free service program to perform hidden service operations.

Regarding the original ink cartridges that come with the printer, I have read that they have an internal chip fitted inside them and when the ink level drops below approx 40% and it is exposed to air the cartridge cannot be reset.
By the time my reset tool arrived my cartridge was showing on the printer to be about only 20% full but I decided to try and reset anyway and it worked. I hadn't actually printed very much so I was suprised to see that I had presumably used 80% of the ink, which leads me to believe that the ink remaining monitor on my printer is not very accurate.
The evidence begins to mount when I also considered that my three colour cartridges were showing as 80% full before I reset my black cartridge to think that it was full. The printer had to go through it's setup procedure because it thought that I was installing a brand new black cartridge and when it had finished setting up, the printer monitor showed all three of my colour ink cartridges were now only 50% full.

Why is this important? because the printer decides when the ink cartridges are empty and I have read that it doesn't matter if there is any ink left in the cartridge, if the printer decides its empty then it will apparently refuse to continue printing with it.
On my HP printer the printer prints until no ink physicaly comes out of the cartridge so there is no need for resetting.

Compatible inks are very cheap like another poster has said and I don't think they have an internal chip so it might be possible to keep resetting over and over again until all the ink is used.
I found great enjoyment hunting down the service program and finding the cheapest price for the ink resetter tool and it's a very satisfying feeling when you successfully fool the cartridge into believing its full again by simply pressing it against the contacts of the chip ressetter tool.

This printer is great value for money and also fun to mess about with so I highly recommend it.

BinMan, could you post/pm the name/link of the ink re-setter please? The companies all claim that the printer is all specialised so it will deny ink below a certain level but we all know its just a money making fad.

Certainly:

This is the one I got and it works perfectly, I believe it might be the best price around and it includes free 1st class delivery. I rekon this should be posted as a hot deal itself.

The chip resetter is pointless when the carts are only 50p each delivered. Remember when you reset the chip it does an ink charging cycle ( using up lots of ink) as it thinks you have installed new cartridges.
You would have to go through a lot of cartridges to recover the £7 cost of the reset tool.

Its only of use if you are sticking to the overpriced Epson replacement cartridges.

Have been using this printer with compatibles for a while now. All of a sudden the cyan and magenta won't work despite many nozzle check/head cleaning. Spoke to a man at local Refill Centre who said they don't recommend compatibles for this printer as the print head does clog and only Epson engineers can clean it. Does anyone have any ideas, don't really want to go to Epson? Thanks.

How are you doing the nozzle check/head cleaning. Are you using options available on the printer itself? or are you using an external program/software?

Search for epson print cleaner on ebay ( about £3.99 delivered)

There are several sellers of print head cleaning fluid. You get a syringe and tube - you just take out the cartridge and squirt a couple of ml of the cleaning fluid down the print head to clean it.
Buy from one of the sellers who guarantee it to work ( then if it does'nt then you get refunded)
