This is a good deal, and is the same price in my local Tesco.

Does anyone know if this comes with the cable needed to connect it to your PC/laptop?

And does the printer come with some cartridges in the box to use with str8 away?
#5
Doesn't come with usb cable but does have set of ink cartridges.
#6
Thanks, that's pretty shocking it doesn't have a USB cable - how do they imagine u'll connect your PC to it?!?

How much is such a cable? There's so many how would I know which is right?

You just need a standard USB A-B cable like this one for 99p:

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/88128

Beware the likes of Currys and PC World who will charge £15 for a cable like this.

I suspect that printer manufacturers have agreements with large retailers not to include the cable so that the retailer can sell it at a hugely inflated price. I can't think of any other explanation.

Picked up this printer today at Tesco for £39.14 - they had an end unit with about 10 stacked up. I'll pick up that cable too, thanks benjus :)

Great deal, but be careful these aren't heavy duty enough for sitting on and photocopying various body parts - There should probably be a warning on the box "Not suitable for office parties". We got around this limitation by placing the printer between 2 milk crates and placing a piece of perspex over the top.

got one last week very good ...Argos......Standard Usb A-B cable will do ....cheap as chips..........Go for it.....Aint that noisy either............

Poo product - Cheap and Nasty! Sample inks to start with and then cost a fortune each reload. Stick with a Canon and be happy.

NEVER buy an Epson. The ink drys in the heads if they're not used enough. Go for HP or Canon.
#17
Epson are the worst for chipping inks making you use originals.

I wanted a cheap printer and picked up one from Canon's official ebay store for refurbs and returns. No issues with it - just looks like someone bought it and changed their mind. Got some free full size inks as well instead of the small starter ones.

The reality is that unless you really need to print photos now, and I mean now, like in the next 10 minutes, then using an instant print it way cheaper. Take Asda for example. Sure, their 5p prints are for 100+ over 2 days but their instant (not 1 hour) prints are 30p each. 24 hour opening and you've only Sunday evening whenn it becomes unavailable.

I've had home photo printers and the one I've just bought can do 4800*1200 and that is way good enough for 6*4 and immediacy. Heck, even A4 size comes out fine.

The trouble is that the price is OTT. Paper and ink cost is so high and if you cut costs and downgrade quality there, then you don't need a top of the range printer. For real printing, the supermarkets or online are the way to go. Home printing is document based with some minor photo stuff. Worrying about ink costs and the like is what I used to do when I wasn't seeing the whole picture.

Forgive me going slightly off topic here...

Do be sure to shop around for the usb cable if the first ones you see seem expensive, folks. I tried my local Currys and Staples when my office recently bought three printers with no cables, and both places charged around £25. Per cable.
I got three from Wilkinsons, for about £1.50 each, and only one worked.
I then bought two from Argos for about £2 each, and both worked fine.

Have no idea why two out of three from Wilkos wouldn't work* but the prices for the ones in Currys and Staples are ridiculous - even if they are Belkin...

*tried swapping them around - definitely 2 outta 3 bad cables. Which was a relief, tbh - thought we had duff printers at first!

We just bought a Epson SX205 in PC World for 38.99. So I don't know if this is a good deal.

Euh, with a standard USB cable that can be bought almost anywhere or if you are lucky, you already have a few spare ones in the house.

Anymore question?

Seriously, think about it a bit and it makes sense for them not to include a USB cable in the box: It is a standard cable, any A-B usb cable will fit. If they include it, someone would have to pay for it, so they would have to increase the price of the printer accordingly (maybe just £0.50 but still someone needs to pay for it). Giving the ubiquitousness of A-B USB cables, a large number of potential buyers are likely to have spare ones, even if only the ones that was used by the printer that this one is meant to replace. If every printers, HD, camera, scanners, etc that I buy in the next 20 years come with an included A-B USB cable, my stack of spare USBs will soon overcome my useless stack of gizmo chargers.

Pretty standard price mate...everyone seems to be selling it around 39

Pixmania for example http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/1971775/art/epson/epson-stylus-sx-205-aio.html?srcid=867

Dixons too, as well as PCworld website
#25
Don't bother with official ink; total complete waste of money. You can get compatibles by searching on google, usuallty delivered next day and are 10% cost of originals!
#26
I have a Cannon Pixima but its broken, been quoted about £2o to fix, shall I fix it or buy this for a few quid more??
#27
I gave my Epson to my sis last year as we got a good deal on a Canon. I miss my Epson, ink for Canon is so expensive. I used to buy compatibles from UKDVDR as mentioned above cost about £5 for the set of 7 carts (extra black included) Tempted by this as I need 2 new inks for the Canon at a cost of over £20. Now gonna go sweet talk hubby lol

Get the MP240 from Curry's for the same price. This deal is COLD, I was looking for a printer, I didn't see these priced for any higher than £40 anywhere. You can get the 205 for the same price at Curry's I think. Once again, people are like lemmings on this site. Hot ratings on this site usually means cold these days!

Found it. The the code 10MFPRINT valid to 22nd August gives a £5.50 discount taking the price to £49.49.

I was going for the Canon MP620 when it had £30 off before the end of July. Top printer with separate inks etc. 9600 print and scan so way enough for anyone and had it down to about £90 or so after discounts. Initial competition was the HP 6380. Canon ahead as you can close it up, HP feeders mean it is open to dust etc.

Get onto the Canon ebay shop and fill your boots.
suspended#35
is this better then the comet 26.99 Hp all in one printer?

Ink for the Epson is under £1 per cartridge.

Ink for the CANON COSTS FIFTEEN TIMES AS MUCH as there are no cheap compatibles.
Its the same with the HP printers ( £12+ even for refilled cartridges).

ALWAYS CHECK INK PRICES BEFORE BUYING A PRINTER ( a simple search on ebay is the easiest way)
