yeah im in need of a home printer and have reserved one has decent reviews online also

These Epsons eat ink. Kodak are better however the print quality isnt up to the Epson's.
Try the newer HPs for a better cost/print ratio.

The compatible inks are dirt cheap for this, however, I've read a fair few reviews that say non Epson inks cause the print heads to clog up fairly quickly leaving you with a chunk of useless plastic...I'd be interested to hear of anyone who's been using non Epson inks for over a year and the printer is still going strong?!

...I'm on the verge of getting the SX515W but am stalling 'cos of this problem!

I got the SX515W, running it on cheap ink. No problem for the 6 months so far.

Been using compatible inks for years in my old C62 and no problems whatsoever. Fantastic deal so i've reserved one to upgrade. Cheers op

@kiorhassan. Did it come supplied with a set of ink cartridges the way the old ones used to. Think my c62 came supplied with a set but they were about half full if i remember correctly?

I've had an Epson Printer for the last 4 years (time for an upgrade!) and have only ever used compatible inks with no problems. Thanks for posting this - I've reserved one.

I needed a printer ASAP to print a ton of uni work out for deadlines this week, as doing it in uni would be a pain and this costs only around 15-20 quid more than it would to print it all out at uni. so I reserved this on the Argos website last night to pick up in the branch over the road from me and a couple hours later it dropped to £37 quid (it was 49.99 last night). bargain. picked it up this morning, it DOES come with ink but no USB lead so buy one of those at the same time if you don't have a spare, to save you going back again 2 hours later and having to go through massive christmas queues just for a few quid lead.... cough....

I bought the Epson SX515W from PC World. It came with a small USB cable, probs 1 meter, Ink cartridges and a few photo paper.

Very easy to setup the wife, works like a charm. But a few gripes with the printer is that its quite noisy compared to my old lexmark and the way it prints is so violent lol, paper managed to get jammed a few times, but that was probably more due to the paper not being aligned on the tray properly. Not sure on whether to use compatible inks myself as i'm also a bit worried about it clogging the print heads.

Just to update everyone picked mine up today does come with ink however no USB as mentioned earlier is a good looking printer can fax copy print and print direct from your digital camera so looks well worth 40 quid

Damnit. I reserved it yesterday to pick up today but i've just checked the website and it says the price you pay when you check and reserve is the price the item is on the day you pick up. Grrrrrr

Edit: Just rang the store and they couldn't have been nicer, checked my reservation number and have confirmed i can have it for £37.49. Think it depends on how generous they're feeling as the website gives conflicting info so i'm off to pick it up. Wheeeeee. :)

I've got an Epsom DX3800 and been using it for about 5 years. It's never had genuine cartridges since the originals ran out. It never gives any problems, and the compatibles are embarrisingly cheap.

I have been using non epson inks for many years, with no problems. Epson printhead is built into machine not the cartridge thats why non epson carts are so cheap. I now use refillable carts with a Automatic Reset Chip in it. Epson printers clog up if you dont use them on a regular basis, about once a week. Once had one that had not been used for 7 months filled carts with water and that cleared it ! lasted for years after

Generally it's far cheaper to use comaptable ink and chuck the printer away when the heads clog than use genuine ink.

My Epson SX215 also grabs the paper really violently, leading to the same problem with paper alignment being critical. Seems if I use high quality paper setting rather than 'normal' the paper feed is much more gentle.

Agreed - 4 sets of genuine inks = cost of printer! I have used compatible cartridges in Epson printers for over 7 years with no adverse affects.

I pay £18.00 delivered for 3 sets of 6 cartridges (18 carts total) from Hornsea Inks. I cannot distinguish between Epson and compatible (Current printer is Epson P50).

The trick to using compatible cartridges in Epson printers is to print out at least one sheet every week (the windows test page?). That way the ink doesn't dry out on the print head. I have been using them with compatibles for years

..and don't ever turn the printer off, the power up routine on Epsons uses considerable quantities of ink.

Ebay Canon Outlet are currently auctioning refurbished Canon MP 640s. it has wi-fi, lan, copier, dvd printing, great reviews. Just bought one for £70 delivered, to keep as a spare, looks brand new, paid £130 a few months ago on Amazon for the other one I have. I refill the original Canon cartridges myself so works out very cheap. Unlike this printer, Canon have changed the cartridges on the new models to make it more difficult to refill, but this should keep me going for a few years.
