If you are looking for a decent quality memory foam mattress (rather than the myriad of cheap ones that appear to be flooding the market), then you might be interested in this deal (please be kind this is my first post).

I own one of these mattresses and they have certainly helped my arthritis (in my lower back). I would go so far as to say that this is probably one of the best purchases that I have ever made.

The mattresses are :

Size - Single
Dimensions - 3ft" x 6ft 3" (90cm x 190cm)
Total depth - 21cm
Memory foam depth - 9cm
Was £429 now £229

Size - Double
Dimensions - 4ft 6" x 6ft 3" (135cm x 190cm x 21cm)
Total depth - 21cm
Memory foam depth - 9cm
Was £699 now £349

Size - King
Dimensions - 5ft x 6ft6" (150cm x 200cm x 21cm)
Total depth - 21cm
Memory foam depth - 9cm
Was £799 now £399

Other sizes are also available.

I my opinion these mattresses are directly comparible to Tempur mattresses, and the build quality is so good that they do a direct comparison between their mattresses and Tempur ones (follow this link http://www.ergoflex.co.uk/memory-foam-mattress.php)

This is a genuine sale, and I can vouch for the fact that they were selling them at the usual price last year. I hope that this helps anyone in the market for a new mattress.

Also their delivery and communications were second to none.

Hi there,

I am currently in the market for a new mattress, however as with most things I research them thoroughly (too thoroughly sometimes)before buying.

Looking at the specs of this mattress it seems to have a particularly high density memory foam(85kgm3) which many experts would claim to be too dense. The optimum range appears to be between 60 & 70 kgm3. Although it does compare to the specs claimed by tempur (85 - 100), Tempur did infact rate very poorly in a recent which report.

The layer of memory foam would also be deemed a bit too thick for what the main recommendations are. (max 7.5cm - this is 9cm)

I'm no expert but would recommend people do their own research before going for this one.

There is a good thread on MSE here about mattresses.

Mattresses are difficult to rate as what suits one person does not suit another. As for the depth "7.5cm Max" I do not agree mine is 10cm and is great.

As someone who is disabled with arthritis (etc. I won't bore you!) too... I would warn anyone to TRY this sort of mattress first.
I have one on the spare bed, and have tried it many times - I find they feel fantastic, and offer great comfort, but are a MAJOR problem when turning over, somewhat like turning in quick-sand, so if you are less than nimble, this could be a problem for you too, and I found I was happier with a pocket sprung mattress for MORE money! :-(

That said, if it is for you, (and I wish it WAS for me!), Makro have Sleepsecrets mattresses at the moment, far cheaper than this (I believe this brand was a Which best Buy, perhaps someone could confirm this?) at £99.99 single to £179.99 for KS (PLUS VAT!)

From 8th January, Lidl have even cheaper ones (don't mock, their last ones were FANTASTIC quality, although I think these are a little thinner overall!) but just singles and KS, no doubles:
http://www.lidl.co.uk/uk/home.nsf/pages/c.o.20090108.p.Ortho-Med_Mattress_-_90_x_190.ar3 £50 and
http://www.lidl.co.uk/uk/home.nsf/pages/c.o.20090108.p.Ortho-Med_Mattress_-_150_x_200.ar3 £70

GOT to be worth a try out on a spare bed perhaps?

I am only going by the information I have collated. The reason the depth is deemed importance is with regards to how warm the mattress makes you feel. The thicker the memory foam layer - the further into it you sink. Makes sense if you think about it.

Totally agree though that it is a very subjective thing but things people need to consider.

I was after a tempur mattress for long enough until I read a lot of adverse reviews. The power of advertising !!!

I also had a sleep secrets topper, which for the first 18mths was fantastic. I have just pulled it off of my bed though as it has sagged on both sides (where my partner and I sleep). It doesnt matter if we flip it it just sags the other way. So I won't be buying another Sleep Secrets product.

I think I have narrowed my personal choice down to a pocket sprung mattress with a memory foam inset.

About a month's work to sift through that lot, and at the end of the day, what is a bed like to lie on... then sleep on it - 3 months later you find the medium becomes a soft, or worst, a medium-firm becomes aas hard as a bed-of-nails!! It is hard for anyone, but with my weight, size, appalling sleep pattern retlessness and disability means I HAMMER beds, so as obsessed with bargains as I am, I need to look at beds and mattresses with a different viewpoint than most too!

You still need to stretch out on one, (actually MANY) and that gets harder all the time as specialist shops are rarer, and every manufacturer produces different named models for different retailers of even more confusing grade! :-(

This sounds a bit like my present mattress - although some are not suitable for turning, and I find that type become big "pits" after no time, whatever the manufacturers say!

Its certainly a minefield trying to choose a good quality new mattress.

I go through this rigmarole every 4 or 5 years.... as I say I HAMMER mattresses, and getting the balance between quality and value is not easy.
All these 10 year guarantees make me laugh too... they guarantee them OK, but I find most become torture to lie on without breaking or wearing thin or whatever is covered by the warranty! Still, I don't expect a mattress to last so long due to the punishment I give it, and in the past, even ultra-expensive ones have not done any better than ones in the 350 - 500 quid range

Hi all

Long time reader, first time poster: I got one of these last Jan in the sale and wouldn't swap it for anything. Best purchase I have ever made on anything! They are not supposed to be turned upside down, just top to tail occasionally

Hope this helps.

Hey ginger,

Welcome to the forums !!,

How does the price compare to when you bought one - is it a true hot deal ?

Ive started to look into the reviews for this mattress and I must say that I am impressed. Seriously thinking about taking the plunge on it.

Heya again

Price was around the same in last year's sales. Mate of mine just got one too, she's over the moon with it after a long term back problem.

The sale is back on today.
