simply put Ernest Jones and their sister company H Samuel don't carry any stock outside of the shops.

So if they don't have it displayed the shop your at, they have to order another stores watch that has been displayed and during the sales they tend to send out a lot of the returns, same deal for online orders.

basically you'll never get a new sealed watch off them unless special order high end Swiss
x3 time ordered a watch from Ernest Jones

x3 times got a used return

not getting my business ever again.
It's a nice watch, if far too busy for my tastes, and I it's a good price.

Alas, it's Ernest Jones. They discourage price comparisons or review research by obscuring the model number. Fortunately, they are lazy enough to just use stock images, so a quick image search reveals that the model is SSC081 and the usual UK price is around the £220 mark).

Unless you are going to use for swimming, you can get the batteries replaced for a few quid, as they don't need resealing, which Imo is a massive con.
I've got a tag link sl, f1 and a grande chronograph and refuse to pay the ridiculous amounts goldsmiths want.
when my wife's tag stopped functioning properly after a mere 2 years they wanted £245 for servicing it.
I took them to small claims court under eu legislation and they paid me the £245 repair fee.
Don't think I'd agree with this, had a Tag a few years back, shrinked on paying the near £100 battery replacement charge, put it into a local jeweller, paid around £25, watch never worked correctly or remained watertight again - and I don't do anything other than very rarely swimming and a shower daily. Eventually sold it for spare or repair, got pennies back for a £1,200 watch. I'd pay the extra for the non battery model if I was to buy another in the future.

The showers are what killed it.
My comment should have read "not for swimming ".

I don't go to the local pool with my tag on, so don't need the specialist sealing, which I think is a massive con.

Basic looks, but a good brand and a good price.
Be aware though, that once the battery runs out, it'll cost £120-£150 for a new one, plus re-sealed.
Just had a battery change and re-seal on my Tissot for £39.95 at Ernest Jones, are different models different prices?
Any reputable Tissot outlet will send a Tissot watch needing a new battery to Switzerland for replacement and re-sealing, to maintain the warranty. Yours cleary wasn't.

So are you saying Ernest Jones arent a reputable outlet?
Automatic watches have their detractors (accuracy +/-5 sec per day >>> +/- 30 sec per day is useless if you have to have precise accuracy), they are more expensive and some (Swatch, for instance), use cheap metals, springs and !plastic! in the movement for built in obsolescence (last week, I was wearing a 40 year old Citizen) and they tend to be more expensive new.
But, there is no battery....

Mind you, they still like to be serviced every few years.

Nasty bait switch technique in use by Ernest Jones

Got cancelled this morning after 3 days.

:(
new watch just arrived. looks lovely. good spot Rob.
Thanks OP. Bought Tissot men's titanium PR 100 sapphire crystal for £165 which seems to be good deal.
Ordered a Citizen titanium Royal Marines yesterday. What arrived today was a customer return from last December, scratched, no hangtags, in a battered box. Buyer beware! This is going straight back.
Please PM a Mid Season Sale Voucher if you get one! Would be over the moon... looking at cheap wedding rings XD

Fiver down the market. Keeps accurate time and lasts as long. Waste of money
Fossil watches tend to be good and this one has good reviews across the board (I think) .
I agree re comments about how much it's worth ultimately equates to how much the beholder values it. Seems like a reasonable deal to me (heat).

Personally my nature is utilitarian tempered by my own peculiarity and I reckon it's more than a little busy for my tastes ****.

There's a SS version here for £160, although the trustpilot reviews for the TicWatches isn't as positive as the WatchCabin: [url=https://www.ticwatches.co.uk/ar5988-mens-silver-tazio-classic-watch-p26268/url]

*I rather like old (all mine are from the 1970's) Citizen automatics even though automatics are not as accurate as Quartz and they aren't terribly waterproof and probably won't survive a clout without remedial TLC. From a hotdeals perspective, they are rarely more than £20 on the bay and thus a fantastic bargain if you're careful.
thekanester
It's a quartz fashion watch so will get voted cold. I voted hot due to savings from rrp.
Most people vote cold cos it is a cheap mechanism buoyed by a fancy schmancy name and more 'serious' mechanisms can be had for less.
Live and let live I say, but if you ever fancy buying a proper watch just ask! ;)
yea that's true i guess but i really like the look of it and think its a good price for what it is :)

I ordered the citizen CC3005-85E when it was on Amazon for £374.50. still no idea when it will be dispatched but hoping its soon.
Yes I had the price alert on that model from Amazon, cracking price at £374, never ever been that cheap and see its back up again price wise, I am sure you'll get one dispatched eventually.
As I expected didn't last long before going OOS. Didn't actually order one myself even though I posted the deal, wondering if I should have now!

Don't confuse edifice with normal casio watches they really are a premium watch thats really well made with a quality feel and look.
I've just bought a Casio Edifice from EBay user: premiergadgetsuko for very cheap as a present. They have a great selection of watches with loads of Edifices. I have one myself and it's a great looking watch ⌚
what kind of movement will this have? 1Hz? struggling to see how/why a Casio can cost this much
Lovely watch. I've got all kinds of watches and I wear a Casio Edifice as my daily watch to work. Always gets comments. Looks great and feels great!

As long as you know you are buying a chinese watch for the looks rather than the accuracy, then fine. At best their most expensive are "Chwiss", chinese components assembled in China and sent to Switzerland for approval ("yeh, they look ok,lets flog 'em")
BDawg
I thought it had a classic look about it.
Woman who reviewed it had this to say - Bought for my husband he doesn't really like it it's not worth that you paid the money it looks so cheap - her words.

I'm not a fashion watch kind of guy, but this is decent looking and a great saving. Hot.
(Would still recommend buying a Seiko 5 over this though :))
Where would you recommend getting a 5 from ? Last time I looked they were nudging £200
I got mine from goldsmiths for £60. I used Tesco vouchers and only spent £20. Here is a link.
It is not the best looking, but it is well made and reliable. It's also not a hacking watch and it doesn't have manual wind; automatic only. It has a clear back so you can marvel at the inner gubbins
You can often find 10-15% off vouchers on voucher cloud to bring it down, as I did when I bought my Hamilton khaki from there.
Thanks for the link and also vtec for the reply as well. Had my sights set on a Sea Urchin Seiko 5 but they still seem to be priced highly

Read that if you're wondering if this is a good deal or not.
Second page has it on a black strap and it looks marvellous.
I don't need a dressy watch like this but if I did I'd be all over this very classy Seiko.
Also known as the Seiko Presage SARY057 if you want to google it.

yeah, I read the watchuseek post before I bought it. I've been looking for a good Seiko in line with the sarb033 but this at 140 pounds seemed very good. I personally prefer a steel bracelet, but I will wait and see until this arrives to see what it is like on the wrist first. It kind of has the looks of a rolex oyster perpetual datejust but obviously a hell of a lot cheaper and not of the same quality.

Yeah why do seikos always have naff looking metal bracelets? If this was already on black or brown leather I'd buy it!

I think most of the bracelets are okay and at least the bracelet will not wear out as rapid as the leather, but you get what you pay for ultimately.. more expensive watch - better quality bracelet.

Looks great on a black leather strap.
Had one in the basket hovering over the button but the head kicked in and pointed out I've already got one very similar.
Good deal though

Same price @ Amazon, free delivery. If you don't like Ernest Jones.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Casio-GD-120MB-1ER-G-Shock-Mens-Watch/dp/B00SSX25OK

I went into their shop in Liverpool One yesterday, to see if they had a specific watch. They didn't but could bring one to the store for me to look at. However they wanted a 20% deposit, no problem with that, but you don't get your full deposit back if you don't like it.

I agree but they're completely different styles of watch.
These have a negative display which means it's very hard to see in most lights.

Radio Controlled and solar powered for £17 more here Select Amazon as seller on right or buy from Watchshop

No battery change, visible display, discreet and atomic clock accurate make it worth the extra for me

Ernest Jones also seem to have a terrible reputation for palming off ex display items....
Toot.
I bought this one earlier in the year when it was on offer from a deal on here...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0039NDB2O/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

In my opinion it looks a lot better and is very good quality and has withstood a summer in the sea.

Buying a watch by Gucci is like buying a hammer drill by Ferrero Rocher- its just wrong
Elaborate?
He means that it's a fashion watch not a true diver's watch. You want a true diver's watch buy Seiko SKA371 with Prospex accreditation. It's rigid, elegant and even a watch snob will turn his head around when you wear it. Here, you pay for the Gucci brand, which is not a bad thing in my opinion but you don't get quality watch in this situation. For £400 you can get a vintage Omega off eBay or used a Tag Heuer. Mentioned by me Seiko can be bought new for £299 or even less on Amazon.
Vintage Omega for £400? You might want to take another look at that!
You'll get a Geneve for £200 and a cool Geneve Dynamic Bullseye from upwards of £400. Speed/sea masters can start from about £350.
With quartz movement, no box or certificate. Yeah, proper vintage.
For £200 I wouldn't expect either and they would be from '70s so quite old and only worth £200-400. Some Geneve might be quartz, but most from that era are manual or auto.
Unless you are buying one of the higher end Omegas or perhaps a Tudor or Rolex then most watches from this time won't have paperwork.
Most copies are usually so terrible they are immediately obvious and they are mostly sea masters and speed masters. There aren't many knock off versions of the lesser known (and IMO better looking) models like the Geneve Dynamic.
There are many reputable watch sellers on eBay who exclusively sell watches and their business is build on their rep. Just be adult about it and don't buy any frankenwatches from India or dodgy sellers.
I only buy new watches. I think to put a Gucci watch in the same category as Armani, Hugo Boss and especially Ben Sherman is very naive.
Only difference is a printed name on dial, same quartz movement, case shape etc

Not at all. Armarni, Hugo Boss ect are all basically fossil watches, made in the same factory. Gucci watches are italian and made by the brand themselves. They've been making watches for a long time.

^ I think that he's just trolling or doesn't know much about watches :D
Maybe or maybe not, your money your choice. I would rather buy a watch from a company that makes watches. I picked up a Seiko sportura gmt kinetic with sapphire crystal that was posted on here for £135, now that was a good deal
Too flashy for me but good deal anyways. I got recently aforementioned Seiko SKA371 diver as needed something more classy for my formal wear not only for out of hours :D
Owned a couple of the seikos you mentioned, well made but found them a little heavy, I recently picked up the seiko turtle, nice watch

It is quite a heavy watch but I like this feeling. When something is a bit heftier it screams quality for me but it's probably only me haha. Are you a watch collector? I am just starting. Own a Casio G-shock for sport, got a Daniel Wellington for formal (I know that I have paid too much for what it is) and now got the Seiko.

Just got mine. Sending back *. The strap is soooooo long. When I get it around my wrist (18cm( the end of the strap then sticks out near where the face is and looks ridiculous. Shame because the face is lovely.
* Actually might just get a new strap for it.
Me being stupid! The strap is really long but you can fold the end back into the first metal thingy.
Looks great. Really pleased with it. Thanks OP for making me spend money I didn't know I wanted to spend (_;)

Yep that is the nature of a nato strap.
if that bothers you can can always cut the strap, Nato strap are usuall nylon and with a quick buit of heat from a lighter or an iron you can reseal the edge to make it perfect

Nope got used to it now. Went out this evening and it looked great. Really love the watch although a bit odd not getting notifications (used to wearing an Apple Watch!!)
