I'd go for "Joe Danger" instead, but you could buy both "After Burner Climax" (£3.99) & "Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West" (£5.49) with your budget, then wait for "Half Minute Hero" to fall below £11.99 in the future.

PS. Did you try the PSP[go] demo for "Hot Shots Tennis: Get a Grip"?

Everyone should grab After Burner Climax at this price. You don't get much for your money at the full £7.99 price tag but at £3.99 it's well worth the 3 hours of gameplay you get. (Having said that it may only last you 20 mins if you don't want to see alternative endings and get the unlockables).

Everything else is pretty meh imo.

You might want to give them a go. Very good for people with short, fat avatars I believe........

Worms is good for you

I'm going to try out the Patapon demo, but am unsure whether to go for Afterburner or not......

I find it quite amusing that PS+ users get a whopping great 20% off SuperStardustHD next month, when it was available for everyone at 70% discount lst week............go figure.............

(why are all the new smiley face things so rubbish!? :|)

I was tempted by the Patapon demo, will probably give it a go.
All this PSN+ stuff, is just well you know; in the states you can try inFamous game for a hour (as it is 6.9Gb it will probably take longer to download) and then you can buy for $29.99, but it is far cheaper than that in the shops.
I think I'm missing something with PSN+ http://forums.demonssouls.info/images/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif (My smilies rule!)

6.9GB would certainly take far longer than an hour to download on my cruddy (so-called broadband) Internet connection that is too far from my local exchange to warrant paying for more mice to run around wheels to make it go faster.

I suspect the hour time limit does not start until you launch the game for the first time after installing though.

No, I don't think you are missing anything with PlayStation Plus.

It is great if you are a new PS3 owner or inexperienced PlayStation Store user, but for those who have owned a PS3 for a few years &/or have purchased items for download as they have become available, the offer of free items (in some cases, initially made available over 12 months ago) must be less of an incentive than the service offers other PlayStation Network members.

It is an optional service, of course. It is not mandatory (...yet!).

BFN,

Yeah I didn't mean to suggest that the download time is included in the demo time. Just saying that it is a massive download.
I was saying to Carrot that if I was new to PSN then I would probably get PSN+ but I have all the freebies on offer...except for the fat princess avatar.
#19
same with me on playstation plus, have everything they have offered, both this month and next, see what they offer in month 3 and then see how i feel about joining it, as for these offers after burner and lead and gold for me i think.

just have to take my ps3 to somewhere with internet to download them until my net is sorted out in my place (on the 23rd boo)

Peterdj41:
If you know somebody else with a PS3 console you can always create a new user on their machine & link it to your existing PlayStation Network account & buy the current "Special Offer" items you are interested in. You do not need to download the items at the time of purchase if you do not wish to.

When your Internet connectivity is restored you can then just review the "Download List" in the PlayStation Store & download the previously purchased items to your own PS3.

(Also, don't forget to remove your newly created user from the other PS3 before you leave your friend's address)

Not so great this week. I went for Afterburner Climax but £5 for Worms is still way too much when Worms 2 is out on xbox live (hurry up PSN!) for the same price and has some dlc coming.
#22
* After Burner Climax (was £7.99/EUR9.99 now £3.99/EUR4.99)
* Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West (was £11.99/EUR14.99 now £5.49/EUR6.99)

Interested in those 2 but:
Assume Afterburner will be available for "rent" via PSN+ at some point, and if its only a couple of hours long I'll pass.

Lead and gold looks half ok, but for a few quid more you could get COD4MW. I'm guessing the latter is better all round? Also this will probably be available on psn plus too at some point

My big problem with PSN plus is that it effectively makes it not worth buying the PSN games. Or have I missed something?

Worms is excellent btw, but gaming has moved on over the last 10 plus years, so I'd only recommend it for fans of the original. For a fiver, you can't go wrong (add me - same user name)

One final quick query, can the games from PSN plus be used on another console ie my brothers when I go round there, or do I have to take my console with me?? :-o

No, I totally understand your viewpoint on "PlayStation Plus" & restricting (or eliminating) your spending in the anticipation of future monthly incentives.

The service is great for somebody new to the PS3 (or PSP) platform or somebody who has not taken advantage of many items from the PlayStation Store in the past.

I, unfortunately, do not fall into those categories, and have bought pretty much all I have been interested in during the last 3+ years. "PlayStation Plus" offers me nothing substantial at present so I will continue buying content for the foreseeable future.

Of course, any content I buy will be mine to keep if I did then decide to subscribe to "PlayStation Plus" but let my subscription lapse.

If you waited for the time when an item was offered "for free" as part of the subscription-only service, you would then have to continue with the subscription year after year to retain use of the item.

How did you find it? I was under the impression it was the whole first adventure free, not a quick 5 minute play. Game was ok, controls weren't great but did the job, but I thought the price was scandalous considering I'd only play it through once - £7.49 for ep1. I'd value it at that price for all 5 episodes, unless it is that price for 5 episodes and I just read it wrong. But £37.50 for a PSN game is outrageous (7.50 times 5)

I just used the search box at the top right of the 'Store... oh, I see what you mean! ;)

Seriously, it wasn't quite the experience I remember... but it has been 19 years since I played it originally... and, as I discovered just yesterday, Windows Vista & Windows 7 refuse to play my original PC CD-ROM discs for both of the first two instalments in the "Monkey Island" franchise.

It has sparked the imagination of my seven year old, and I will probably buy it to relive the experience through the eyes (& hands) of the youngest member of my family, but I probably would not have paid the initial price for either the full version of "...LeChuck's Revenge" or "The Secret of Monkey Island™: Special Edition". I was a bit disappointed to not see both in a bundle for a reduced price last week.

Back to your query... I think you may be confused with what is available on the PlayStation Store at present (or I am confused by your query).

The "Tales of Monkey Island" episodic-release (five in total) is available in addition to the Special Edition versions of the first two titles in the franchise. A demo version of the first episode of "Tales of Monkey Island" is also available. The five episodes (the "full season") is £13.99 as a one-off payment (with the episodes available in each successive month from the release of the first; 16 June 2010).

"The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition" (£7.99/€9.99) was available from 23 June 2010.
"Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge (Trial and Unlock)" (the Trial is free; the unlock key is £7.99/€9.99) was available from 7 July 2010.

A demo version (for PC or Mac platforms) of "Tales of Monkey Island" is available also:

@fanpages If you download the program ScummVM you'll be able to play Monkey Island 1 and 2 on Windows 7, it's for playing all the old adventure games on a modern system.

@Johnboy_1975 Monkey Island 2 Special edition is a graphical makeover of the 1991 Monkey Island sequel. What you're thinking of is Tales of Monkey Island which is basically Monkey Island 5 and is split into 5 parts. And no, it's not worth all that money, considering how quickly you can get through the game. Much cheaper on PC.
#29
Sorry - I understood from the free demo that it came in 5 parts and I must have then seen the 7.99 and assumed that was ep1 (of 5). £14 is still a bit steep - might use it as an incentive to get PSN plus when it (inevitably) arrives

Thanks! I was aware of "ScummVM" Project; I was just making the point (& click!) that 20 years on progress is not necessarily a good thing.

I thought that was the case. Have you tried the latest "Sam & Max" (episodic) game ("The Devil's Playhouse")? I started to lose interest in LucasArts titles when the original game featuring these two characters was released (& the SCUMM(tm) interface was being phased out). I just didn't find them amusing (in a retro-cheesy ambience kind of way; as I commented on 9 June 2010 at VG247.com).

I agree, though, £14 is a lot to spend on a digital format game, especially with today's gaming market who may want a more disposable experience & who are not aware of the "Monkey Island" series to date.
