Joe Danger gets demo, “People’s Patch”
By Ben Jones August 18, 2010
---
Though Joe Danger may have already sold a fair few copies, Hello Games isn’t quite satisfied with that. The studio released a demo onto the US store this week, with the EU store set to receive the demo next week, due to what can only be described as a freak translation error, in which Dave (who is one quarter of Hello Games) accidentally mistranslated the “Buy Now” botton, and made it into something altogether more offensive.

The big news, however, is the announcement of “The People’s Patch”, so named due to the fact that it apparently answers every piece of feedback Hello Games has had from the community. Details on the patch are scarce, so I’ve reached out to Hello Games for comment. I’ll let you know when I’ve received anything.
---

I am not sure if "botton" was spelled ironically or not, but fingers-crossed the "People's Patch" includes an online multiplayer mode.

BFN,

fp.

Good news about the Joe Danger patch - it would indeed be great if online multiplayer appeared.

I'll be picking up the Let's Golf Mini this week - be rude not to for 99p. Maybe Zuma too.
#6
I bought "Planet MiniGolf" when it was first available & haven't really got into it; but 99p for "Let's Golf" is too low to refuse, as you said, 'fc'.

"Landit Bandit" looks fun too... but I'm not sure on longevity.

Has anybody bought this title already & can recommend it? Thanks.

My 'youngest' will probably put in a suggestion of buying "Heavy Weapon" & as we already have "Crash Commando" I suspect the "Combo Pack" will also be on our shopping list today.

fp do you know anywhere I can get a decent walk-through for using the Japanese PSN store, we got Minna No Golf 5 last year and a 5000 yen PSN card so we could get all the DLC for it, but we've now got over 2000 yen spare and can't make sense of the JP store (It took an hour to find the Everybody's Golf stuffoO)
I need to know where I can find the downloadable games (with an English option!), themes and avatars.
Sorry to go OT!

Hi... & sorry for not responding to your "PM" (yet). I am trying to get something finished in order to justify getting paid this week.

In response to this query though, that is somewhat easier to answer:

New UNCHARTED 2 DLC Coming Next Week
---
...On Wednesday, 18 August, the UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves Sidekick Skins pack will be available for purchase from PlayStation Store. After the last two sets of multiplayer skins we released, we heard that you wanted more Sully, more Chloe and more Elena (among many, many other things) – and that’s exactly what we put into the pack. Not to neglect the villains team, we also threw in two enemy characters from UNCHARTED: Drake’s Fortune – Dillon and Mac – who complete the set we started with Blain and Dutch.

The UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves Sidekick Skins Pack includes the following multiplayer characters:
Heist Chloe
Borneo Chloe
Borneo Sullivan
UDF Sullivan
Winter Sullivan
Wetsuit Elena
Dillon
Mac

On the same day, we’re also releasing an UNCHARTED 2 Dynamic Theme for your PS3. As you can see from the screenshots and the embedded video below, the Dynamic Theme features a scene from Chapter 15 – Train Wrecked, when a critically injured Nathan Drake is high up in the mountains, stumbling through the snow away from the train wreck he survived to recover the Phurba Dagger.

PS. I was asked a few weeks ago if the "Battlefield: Bad Company 2" & "Killzone 2" HotUKDeals clans would consider a "clan" for "Uncharted 2: Among Thieves".

Anybody interested in this... or just having a few games online once in a while?

Really? I rate it very highly. Still a title I can go back to if I'm feeling lazy & cannot be bothered finding a Blu-ray Disc-based title to play.

Have you tried either of the "ExciteBike" or "Trials HD" titles (on other platforms)?

Mind you, I still have a fond memory of "Dare Devil Denis" (or "Daredevil Dennis" depending if you read the box or the screen) [BBC Microcomputer, but also Commodore 64, & Acorn Electron] so "Joe Danger" is just a natural progression of the genre for me.

Hmmm... sorry, I don't think I've ever seen a "walk-through" of the content on the 'Store as such.

I have not used the steps at the link below, but I am finding I am visiting PSNStores.com more frequently now, so I may as well provide their guide to creating a Japanese Store Account if that is useful to anybody else:

Yeah the demo is good for Heavy Weapon. I bought it a while ago and it gets unbearably repetative. The campaign is 19 levels long but 9 of those levels are repeated twice. I was glad when i finished it, and have never touched it again since.

Buy "Zuma" today & if "Peggle (Nights)" is reduced next week you can compare them! :)

Seriously, though, I like both (on the basis of their respective downloadable Trial/Demo versions) so I will be buying "Zuma" this week & waiting on a price reduction for the other title. Whether one is 'better' than the other is subjective, I would imagine.

I thought it was a really good game. Some of the later sub-challenges are ridiculously hard though, which is why I've finished the game but with only 50% completion. Maybe the patch will make the time trials not impossible.

(From this & your past comments in various threads) I am guessing you are not really been taken by the motion-controlled input methods that the industry thinks the punters want in the next few months, have you?

I bought "Inferno Pool" when it was released & often thought I made the wrong decision to not buy "Hustle Kings" with the further downloadable content that title has seen.

What have you found 'wrong' with the current (controller) input method in "Hustle Kings"?

PS. Sticking with my European launch day 60GB PS3 seems to have paid off.

I have now amassed enough GAME Reward Points to buy the soon-to-be-released replacement for the 250GB Slimline model...

No, I meant not jumping at the 120GB or 250GB Slimline model (both of which are now being phased-out for the 160GB & 320GB models respectively) & hoping a PlayStation Move bundle was going to be released with the rumoured larger hard drive capacity models proved worthwhile.

We have four "Phat" PS3 consoles; 2 x 60GB (one has retained the ability to support the "Other OS" facility if we wished it to), & 2 x 160GB Limited Edition models.

A new slimline model would not be replacing any of the others. My 60GB console is still used daily & apart from being noisy after a while of constant use when the internal fan is running continually it is still very much operational.

[I have got a £12.99 B&Q fan placed behind it to help, though :)]

There's nothing wrong with the current input method in Hustle Kings. Although the pool physics, options and graphics in the game are top notch, the computer opponents never ever miss. So, if you're playing single player, even on Easy they'll clean up if you even make one mistake so you have to basically pot everything without missing. Miscueing is fatal so if Move makes it more 'accurate'...

I only have misgivings about Move because I have bought and was unimpressed with Eyetoy, the Wii and PSEye and you can already see them falling into the same traps as the ones before.

Resi 5 move edition, Resi 4 wii edition was horrible...
Using Move control for the cursor in LBP2 and RTS games. Holding a remote out in front of you isn't accurate or comfortable over long periods when you have to move your whole arm. Look at Okami, Metroid Prime 3 and any of the shooters on Wii.
Their launch titles are even a Wii Sports and a golf game.
I'm still hopeful for some actual innovation, or at least some games that will play on strengths like sword combat properly. Maybe a new Bushido Blade.
#36
Ah... I thought by the use of your "extra" wording ("...as if that game wasn't already hard enough with extra cack-handed controls!") that you thought the control system was already hampered.

I liked "Resident Evil 4 (Wii Edition)"; it remains my favourite (adult-themed) title on the Wii console.

The PLAYSTATION Eye/Move technology is far removed from the previous video game generation's "EyeToy" device. Have you seen my "Misc" thread where comparisons are made between the three motion-controlled input methods of the major manufacturers?

Kinect Technical Specifications made public (comparison to PlayStation Move & Wii Remote controllers)

I favour the inclusion of the "Move" controller(s) with the new "Time Crisis" ("Razing Storm", "Deadstorm Pirates", & "Time Crisis 4 (Arcade Edition)") title as I found the GunCon 3 was always far too heavy to hold for prolonged periods. (“Ghost Squad” for the Wii had the balance just right though)

In contrast, "Call of Duty 3" for the Wii is one of the very few game titles I have sold because I did not like it. The inclusion of the motion controllers made the game too difficult to progress within; especially where you had to wrestle a rifle out of an enemy's grip by moving the Wii Remote back & forth as if it were a real weapon held tightly by somebody facing you.

Also, I cannot imagine how awkward playing something like "Forza Motorsport 3" [Xbox 360] will be with your arms out in front of you around a race track of a few laps.

If "Sports Champions" does not excite you (me neither, as it happens), there are plenty of other "Move" supported & bespoke titles available mid-September to the end of the year.

BFN,

fp.

I know, it's like a wiimote with a light on it that the eyetoy tracks for extra... tracking.

Personally I can take or leave Time Crisis, there's far more longevity in Point Blank but I suppose it's wishful thinking to hope they'll dig that one back up.

Sorcery looks interesting, that's it for now.

FP I agree with you about Forza, they had it on the gadget show and he played it for about 10 seconds. Said he loved it and I thought "yeah 10 seconds worth".
I would have to play it with a Wii wheel or something, two cans of baked beans, just anything.

This leads me to another remark, not to start any war or anything, but I just haven't seen anything that interests me with Kinetic, sure the tech looks great but it isn't about that is it?

Oh and yes I have Move on order, I am looking forward to res evil 5 and a golf game (there are 2 available at launch), dead space:extraction also looks good.

No, it is far more that how you describe the technology.

Did you read my contributions in the thread I quoted?

"PlayStation Move relies upon the PlayStation Eye camera to track the wand's position along a multitude of planes (or, rather tracks the illuminated "orb" on the top of the controllers containing RGB Light-Emitting Diodes), & two inertial sensors (a three-axis linear accelerometer & a three-axis angular rate sensor) to detect motion & rotation when the controller is not in direct line-of-sight of the PlayStation Eye (known as "dead reckoning").

The distance of the controller from the PlayStation Eye is determined by the fact that the size of the spherical "orb" is known so the detected image of the light source can be used to gauge distance accurately (& with high precision; at the most to within one or two centimetres in the Z-axis, & to within a few millimetres in the X-Y plane) in three dimensions. A magnetometer is also included that can be used to calibrate the controller's orientation with respect to the Earth's magnetic field. This helps to make corrections against drift (cumulative error) of the inertial sensors.

The motion controller also incorporates haptic (tactile feedback) technology for vibration("rumble")-based feedback."

Still seems like wiimote plus extra tracking by looking at how far away the light is to me.
