Cheers FP, I was just about to post.
Great deal for PS+ owners in that you can grab the Fallout 3 DLC for free.

Also if you have a US PSN account then there is a free dynamic theme this week...it isn't very good.

Thanks again for the post fp, although there is nothing that takes my fancy this week.

Whoops, someone at Sony didn't spot the typo.. Legend of the Guardians demo is on there as Legend of the Gaurdians. Pity they didn't call it Grauniads.

You can get a demo of Sonic 4 if you go onto the US PSN. But none of this matters because THEY PUT BACK GT5 AT LEAST ANOTHER MONTH :(

A resellable, loanable, do-what-you-like-with-able 'real' copy of Half Minute Hero is £9.99 from HMV, unless you're stuck with a PSP Go.

I bought the first episode of Blue Toad and thought it was awful.

Is this Split/Second survival at the rock a new course?

Edit: found a review of the DLC and it sounds crap. You can't trigger power plays and the course is short, and can't be access in multiplayer.

Never buy something (like a video games console/entertainment system) because a title is anticipated to be released as there are no guarantees that any title is ever going to be completed, &/or secure a publishing deal when/if it is.

Have you played the fore-running (revenue generating) "Gran Turismo 5 Prologue"?

Thanks for the hyperlinks.

Maybe there will be something for you to be more positive about within the next full 'Store update (or the interim price reduction[s] next Wednesday).

Have you finished "Split/Second" completely? I haven't played since I bought "Blur", but I would still like to go back & finish the "story" mode.

I've been playing the Sky Fighter demo and I really like it! The price would be right at £4.99 not £7.99 though. Always the way, 6.99 titles are 9.99, 4.99 titles are 7.99

Yeah I finished the entire game of Split/Second. Got golds in everything.
I won't be going near the DLC by the looks of things.

tbh i would rather they push it back a month or more and release a perfect game then release it with problems...ive played too many games that needed to be patched because they had to keep to the release date...it will more special this way..try to look at it that way maybe

Thanks for the heads up. Always look forward to your post.

Thanks.

I have "Topatoi" [I paid £6.29] (& the "Arcade Style Pack" [free!]), purchased on the strength of the two-player race mode in the demonstration version of the title, but I have played it just once because the story mode I find very slow &, to be honest, boring, as it is not as fast-paced as the two-player racing.

"Smash Cars" I, again, enjoyed during the short-time spent with the demo version, but I have subsequently read a few reviews (for example, at UK.GameSpot.com) that were not very complimentary.

That said, if I had the hard disc space free & the time to devote to another game I would buy it to find out for myself.

In case you were not aware, "Smash Cars: Virus Run" is downloadable content for the main title, so you will have to buy the full game (as well).

"...Virus Run" introduces a new online racing mode (for up to six players) with one randomly-selected player is turned into the "Infected" member of the race expected to catch the other players & "contaminate" them. When the "infected" player hits an opponent, they join the other car(s) efforts to catch the remaining racers.

There is also a "Skate Park" with half-pipes & spring-boards for tricks & stunts during the "Virus Run" mode.

It sounds fun for the price of admission, but I really don't have the hard drive capacity to try it for myself.

If you do give it a go, please could you let me know what you think of it?

Thank you.

fp.

I have achieved "Gold" in every race I have participated in so far. I think I'm between 40% & 50% through the story mode, but I have gained a couple of the online multiplayer trophies too.

I have already downloaded (on 7 September 2010) two of the previous (free) Game Packs:

"Split/Second - Ryback Cyclone Special Edition (Game Pack)"
"Split/Second - Elite Vehicle Livery Pack (Game Pack)" ["…access new liveries for the Elite vehicles of Brawn, Vixen and Raptor"]

Did you buy the "Hyper Car Pack"?

They've said that the last 4 times and the last time they said it would be definitely out in November! At this point, I would rather have a patch!

I wonder if the recent advancements in the PS3 "piracy crack" (sorry, "homebrew" facility) via USB Dongle-based hardware has knocked the date back so that further software protection can be developed & implemented.

I would imagine that with such a long development period (& the associated costs) Sony will not wish "the community" to actively share the game, so the ability to launch it from a hard drive (rather than from the original Blu-ray Disc) will need to be addressed.

There does come a point, however, when any interested party will not continue to wait.

FYI: Medal of Honor blocks PSJailbreak
October 13th, 2010
---
The free ride is over - at least for now. Yesterday's US release of Medal of Honor confirms that Sony has nullified the piracy-enabling PSJailbreak by locking the code to the new 3.42 firmware. While "backups" of the game are now circulating the internet, the game is completely unplayable with the hack as is.

Sony's response to the Jailbreak has been measured, but effective. Within a week of the open source PSGroove implementation arriving online, the platform holder released firmware 3.42, closing the USB exploit - effectively locking out hackers from running pirated games and unauthorised code from the PlayStation Network.

The later firmware 3.50 locks down the PS3 still further, with what appears to be a "white list" of approved USB devices added to the system. This locks out all non-approved, non-storage-based USB devices, and has resulted in some controller incompatibilities.

Sony operates on a longer lead time when it comes to physically duplicating game discs, so recent hits like Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West remained vulnerable to Jailbreak piracy. However, the release of Medal of Honor demonstrates that all levels of Sony's operation have now caught up in the efforts to prevent piracy.

Despite being a minimal, incremental update, firmware 3.2 [?3.50 ~ fp.] appears to include an all-new decryption key not present in earlier versions. Medal of Honor and all titles going forward are encrypted with the new key, meaning that the Jailbreak in its current form has been effectively nullified: the existing firmware it's based on simply can't read the code.

It's unclear if the new keys could be added to the existing hack: the system privileges the Jailbreak opens up do not include access to the PS3's core security layers, whereas Geohot's much derided exploit does, and being hardware-based, it cannot be revoked by Sony.

Whether this will actually translate into an extension to the existing hack remains to be seen, but in the mean time, Sony will be hoping that its counter-measures against the Jailbreak should ensure a piracy-free Christmas for key titles such as Gran Turismo 5 and Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Interesting stuff about the hack too.

That is interesting. Why do people insist so vehemently to get something for free when they're actually spending a lot more effort than the price of a rental to do so?
I just hope that now the Stig has been outed they don't take any of the Top Gear content off! I really want to drive the reasonably priced car around the airfield!

Nice one Sony :)

Regards the 3.42 update, won't take long before games are cracked to run on 3.41. Part of the game data must be looking specifically for 3.42 - all the hackers need to do is remove it, or reconfigure it. Hopefully it will keep backups off PSN though, there's enough cheating and hacking going on MW2 already :/

Bought Topatai (full version - hope its as good as the video suggests) and Blue Toad (it would have made sense to offer 1-3 for £5 and 4-6 for £5 at the same time - anyone without ep1 will have to buy that first)
#28
From a commercial point of view it makes perfect sense to offer episodes 4 to 6 at a reduced price to a) "mop-up" all those who did not progress beyond episodes 1 to 3 (due to cost), & b) gain sales from those who wish to take advantage of the reduced price of episodes 4 to 6 by 'forcing' them to buy episodes 1 to 3 as well (in order to play the story up until the beginning of episode 4).

From a practical point of view, however, it just means some customers will wait until the bundle of episodes 1 to 6, or just episodes 1 to 3, are reduced in price (again).

However, it is a gamble... do you buy episodes 4 to 6 now with the risk that they will return to their previous price at the end of the two week period, & hope episodes 1 to 3 are then reduced? Or wait, hoping the first three episodes are reduced after the fortnight & that the second set of three episodes remain at the currently reduced price?

Or not bother at all? :)

I have episodes 1 & 3, but none of the others; so if I commit to a purchase of episodes 4 to 6, I still have to buy episode 2!

Loving Topatai btw (just finished first level)
