Your comment is completely unnecessary and just shows how easy you have it in the comforts of a Western country. Maybe you should consider those who are currently dying from the cold and starvation, after having to flee from scenes more horrific than you could even imagine.

We've interfered in their countries willy nilly, bombed them from the skies while snuggled up behind a remote desk in UK, and terrorised their entire population for decades and continue to do so. They've never done to us what we've done to them, and now, we have a nerve to blame them for their own problems. In school we are taught a law of science "every action has a reaction", and unfortunately, this reaction is due to our foreign policies.
You have a point, to a (very small) degree, but as far as I'm concerned any sympathy I may have had went out of the window long ago. If you're truly fleeing for your life then why on earth wouldn't you claim asylum at the first safe country you come to? It's EU and I believe international law, yet they don't - they pass through numerous 'safe' countries until they get to the country they want - whether that be the UK, Germany, Sweden etc. I'm sorry but that means they're economic migrants, not refugees, plus we haven't bombed Sudan, Somalia, Morocco, Algeria, Iran, Egypt, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Eritrea, and, until very recently, not even Syria, although of course our involvement in destabilising a previously fairly stable and secular country to a certain 'agenda' hasn't helped.
On the subject of the actual deal, it's a good price (although a standard offer they give every so often and have been for years), but people shouldn't scoff at the concerns some have expressed. I used to regularly go over on the train every 3 or 4 months up until 2 or 3 years ago. It just got stupid in the end - if you weren't at risk of having people smuggle themselves into your car/van, whether you're in the vehicle or not (yes, they really are that stupid that they think you don't know that they're trying to get into your back door or boot when you're sitting there in traffic!), you're at risk of having a serious accident due to people walking on the hard shoulder (and even on the motorway itself) for miles either side of Calais.
They even purposely jump out or throw objects to try to stop vehicles and intimidate/distract drivers to allow others to jump on board. The joke is that they'll probably avoid injury - the natural instinct when driving would be to steer and avoid somebody in the road, meaning you're in danger of losing control of the vehicle when pulling off sudden movements at speed.
These concerns are REAL - I know, because I've not only witnessed it, I've almost hit several people myself and I've had my car hit (and dented) by an object from some of these people! And from what I know it's much worse now. So yes it's a good price, but personally I have no intention of running the gauntlet with these migrants ever again. Plus the French hate us anyway.
what has this to do with the deal ? reported.

The French hate you too ? Wow not so popular are you !!

So that's why the French hate the British. We beat them at everything.:D
Except crossing the channel (WillyTheConk, Bleriot ...). Eurostar & Eurotunnel are mostly now French owned. Most of our utilities are also French owned. Our next generation of nuclear power will be French designed, the planes you fly out of Gatwick will probably be designed and assembled in France.
Winning envy? I think they rather pity us these days.

I saw this deal whilst on a visit back in July so I don't think it's a new thing. I thought it was a fair enough offer, it doesn't take a lot to spend £300 in a wine supermarket when stocking up yourself and a few relatives for Christmas.

The sc**bags using an 0844 phone number, that would be a reason not to use them but if you have to SayNo website says try 01303 282061

Worth also remembering how much public money went into building the tunnel too. The project cost £4.65 billion (equivalent to £12 billion today) and the government are about to sell it off on the cheap. Gidiot is hoping to raise 300 million pounds for a 40% stake. It's a shame he doesn't realise it's not his to sell, it's ours.

Watch out no scummy asylum seeker tries to curl up in your boot..........
Calling an asylum seeker 'scum' is not very humane, because they are "a person who, from fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, social group, or political opinion, has crossed an international frontier into a country in which he or she hopes to be granted refugee status". You shouldn't discriminate someone because they are less fortunate than you.
And how many international safe borders have they crossed in order to get here, the only reason they flock here is for the benefits bestowed upon them by our stupid system.
Still going to the Christmas Markets though. So much better than here.
the 3 hour minimum stay is a bit of a drag, it only takes me ~90 mins round trip from Calais to Belgium and back to get my allowance of Tobacco and fill up with £1/ltr diesel, its not worth stopping off anywhere else for beers as the supermarkets over here in the UK can be cheaper,
also at the french terminal they have got rid of Le Quick burger and replaced it with Burger king :(:)
Was £22 or thereabouts last year and the year before, so not such a great deal I think.
As for the asylum seekers, the young people I seen wondering around the streets last month did not look as if they were escaping from anywhere. Well dressed and confident that the French police were no threat.

Your post doesn't make sense. The actual deal is the price is used to be. So if you are mocking me you failed.

What thoroughly decent post. I too must apologise. In my defence I often get sniffy replies to my posts because I may ask too many questions, may not initially understand a deal or basically say dumb things.

Used to go regular, now a days just not worth it for a day, take in to account the cost of your petrol plus crossing cost along with the very long day involved and it becomes a not so good experience. Gone are the days when you could fill up with cheap diesel as that is now as the uk. And I find the cheap wine is just that, cheap. I will use the £23 plus the £45 petrol money at my local supermarket. It is a pity they dont do a thing like this for a week stay in France though rather than a day?
£23 per way is cheap for the Tunnel. Expensive for the ferry. I suspect it's a telephone offer so that they can try and upsell you travel insurance and car breakdown cover.
erm, french sticks. cheese. some yoghurts. mustard. its a day out, not bad at all. shame its midweek only :(
any other items cheaper to buy in France?
ferrim
if I wanted to stock up on wine, where is a good place in france and how much cheaper is it? Is it just better to stock up when sainsbury's and tesco have their 25% off along with 3 bottles for £12?

Last month I went and bought all my wine from pidou its a supermarket about 5-10 mins drive from calais port also you can place your order online and get 12 bottles of free wine over a £150 spend.

Wine is ALOT cheaper over there.

No idea - but why on earth would you want to?

Yes and a flight deal from London to Paris isn't much use to those living on the Shetland Isles is it. I think it goes without saying that eurotunnel deals are only really suitable for those who live close enough to the channel tunnel to actually use it...

•Promotion valid for a day trip only. Not valid for travel before 06:00. Return must be completed before midnight (local time) the same calendar day. Cannot return within 3 hours.

So yes but I guess there is nothing stopping you buying 2 and using the other for a return trip I guess the following day.

Oh yes there is because they check every registration (all cars are automatically photographed both in and out of the country) and photo-recognition of the registration is how you're usually checked in for the return journey and so you would need to be extremely lucky to get away with the two ticket trick. If you get caught, they charge you full fare less the cost of one day-trip fare.

Bruges is just over an hours drive from Calais. Old historic town with beautiful centre and lots of canals. Called the Venice of the north. Lots of nice bars and cafes. Well worth the detour from Calais if you have the time.

This isn't true! all that's changed is the guidelines. They suggest you bring back 1kg of tobacco, but if you bring more back i.e. 3kg they cannot take it from you! Don't buy into the fear that HMRC create. Who are they to say you only need 1kg? Why can i not buy 3kg to stop me having to go again sooner than I want to?

Just a heads up that this offer closes on the 20th April.
From the T&Cs here http://www.eurotunnel.com/uk/tickets/

"1. Ticket Validity
1.1 Your booking is only valid for the booked departure date and time and the vehicle type stated.

Failure to complete both the outward and return journeys in respect of a return booking will invalidate your booking and in the event that you complete only one journey in respect of a return booking, you will be liable to pay the difference between the price that you paid for your return booking and the single fare applicable at the time that your journey was made. Eurotunnel reserves the right to obtain from you payment in full for all sums so arising.
All travel must be completed within 1 calendar year of the date of booking."

So, it's still not allowed, but whether they enforce or not i've not idea

Pretty sure somewhere in the T&Cs it says that if you don't use the return part, they bill you the difference between your ticket and a standard full fare single (which is pricey!)
Whether they actually do it or not, i don't know....
(and that was a good few years ago that I checked that out, so it may have changed since but would doubt it)

Day trips across the Channel have always been difficult to justify unless you live within an hour or so of the terminal but then so has flying to New York for the weekend, however far you live from the airport - but people still do it! :D:D

For those of you mentioning the poor exchange rate, it is actually better now than it was a year ago and much better than 2 years ago. You have to go back almost 3 years to March 2008 for a rate which was MUCH better than today i.e. above 1.30

Spot rate today is 1.18 for a £ which 10% lower than the heady days of 2008 :)

January 2010 was 1.13 and January 2009 was 1.04

Diesel pricing is still not too bad with the best diesel prices still under £1.20 per litre and it's more than £1.30 here and you can still get a very drinkable bottle of red in France for a couple of quid and that's 3 for £6 as opposed to the 3 for £10 offers here.
Very good price, but almost pointless unless you live within an hour of the Eurotunnel terminal. As others have mentioned, nowadays with the higher cost of alcohol, cigs, etc and the lower exchange rate, it's not worth going for shopping added to the fact that most of northern France is a grey misserable, dreary place, it's not worth going for a day's sightseeing. At a push, somewhere like Brugge is worth a visit, but it just means so much of your day is lost getting there....

Thanks to the truck drivers that were buying pallets of baccy from belguim then bringing it here, British tobacco companies are restricting what they ship to belgium now, so unless you want a european baccy, like Samson or Drum, I wouldn't bother making the trip. Foiund out the hard way 2 weeks ago. As for pre rolled, they are still £3.50-£4.50 a pack, so not really so much of a saving.

Also as a result of there being less baccy, the price of the ones you can get is now near to £5 a pouch. Been told that unless you phone and reserve what english stuff they have left there is no way you will get any.

Limits wise, it is 3kg of tobacco or 3000 pre-rolled PER PERSON, so if there is 4 in the car, you get 4 times the limit regardless of who has it when you get home.
Tickets are tied to your car registration number, so they'd know what you're trying to do + I think the terms of the ticket are such that you can't do this. However, three day return is often not much more than 2x £20 anyway (usually £50 to £60 in my experience).

Is there anything to stop you getting tickets on the Tuesday and Thursday, miss the return on the Tuesday and outgoing on the Thursday (or even give it to someone) so you get a couple days stay and it still only cost you £40?

its worth the 20-30 mile drive to Adinkerke in Belgium once you get off the ferry / tunnel. Tobacco is much cheaper in Belgium! Alcohol prices not much different, certainly not worth the trip over just for alcohol, but if going to belgium for tobacco, then its worth getting a few beers on the way back.

See here for Belgium tobacco prices: http://www.stopshop.be/e/adinkerke/products/tobacco/

Wine can be a lot cheaper, if you are not to bothered about branded stuff. You can buy drinkable 3L boxes for €7 or €8, which would cost you £13 or £14 in the UK.
