Received an email this morning. Six months free membership, £7.85 a month afterwards if you choose to continue.

Chargemaster is delighted to announce that we have partnered up with Charge Your Car (CYC) to reduce the number of charge cards you’ll need to carry when you’re on the road. As a result, with immediate effect, the POLAR plus network has been expanded to include the CYC network, meaning that there will be over 1,200 additional points available for all members with a POLAR plus access card or key fob. All these sites are available at no additional monthly cost of the existing £7.85 subscription and all new customers receive 6 months free!

Want to see what you’re missing? The new sites are being added to the POLAR plus network and can be found all over the UK. They’re now available to view on our map by clicking here and we’ll be expanding the network even further over the upcoming months with dozens of new UltraCharge rapid charge units in London and other parts of the country. What’s more, over 90% of the new charge points are free to use for all POLAR plus members and we are currently offering all the other sites for just 9p per kWh excl. VAT.

Signing up to POLAR plus couldn’t be easier. Simply visit our website and click to ‘Sign Up’ in the top right corner. You will then be guided through the registration and we will send out your access card or key fob to you within 2 working days. All POLAR plus new members receive six months free subscription costs as standard and it’s then just £7.85 thereafter.

We hope that you agree that this is a great step in public electric vehicle charging and hope to welcome you as a POLAR plus member soon. If you do have any questions about the expansion, do not hesitate to e-mail us [email protected].

Yep first go with mine that was confirmed as activated didn't work on a CYC point last week. Had to use the CYC app on my phone which begs the question of this subscription.

Found chargemaster/polar the worst of the networks /charge points for reliability so disappointed they have took over CYC as their points just worked.

Lets hope they improve in the next 6 months or people will just cancel.

Does this mean that CYC is dead in the water and we have to subscribe to Polar?

I use CYC network and haven't heard anything from them to that effect.

I use Polar Plus and I have to say I find it to be the best of the lot. Source is pretty good too.

You also get to hire out a electric car for free for a week, once you have built up enough points, including BMW i8 and Tesla model S

AFAIK CYC remain a separate concern. This is simply a partnership.

I've kept my subscription going for a few months beyond my trial. Quite like the lack of hassle - no mucking about with smartphone apps, no getting irate when Chargemaster bill you an admin fee for failed charges. TBH it isn't bad value at £7.85 anyway. I go in to central Birmingham a couple of times a month and get free parking right by St Paul's for three hours.

it's been free for the first 6 months for at least a year. It's probably one of the most convenient networks, but I still find it hugely unreliable. I even got stranded for 3 hours when one of their posts crashed and wouldn't release my cable.

Yes! This is a fantastic perk of the scheme... I borrowed their Tesla a few months ago for a week having accumulated the points during the free 6 months so I'd spent less than £15 with them on charging costs when I borrowed the car, which is a bargain. Unfortunately I'm sure that type of generosity can't last forever.

I'd have to agree, there's no predicting the problems you had, but I always check zapmap before committing to a journey that will need charging, as there are often posts which polar say are live, but are reported as broken on zapmap.
