It's now a part of the equally poor TimeUK.

Avoid.

They have an eBay shop where everything is on Clearance as well.

No - they were run by the ex boss of Time,Tahir Mohsan.

The company as was is now in liquidation !

So my guess would be no warranty in a few months even if you did get the TV delivered

To quote wiki

In 2007 the company encountered a number of financial problems. In March 2007 the Evesham Journal reported that credit insurers pulled the plug on the firm, although the company continued to trade. [1]

Documents filed at Companies House on 26 June 2007, showed the resignations of four of the five company directors, and it was reported that the company was up for sale [2] [3]

In 3 August 2007, the company was thrown a lifeline of $22m by Time UK founder Tahir Mohsan[4] . It was also revealed that the company had gone into administration, with the UK Government's decision to end the Home Computer Initiative being blamed. [5]

A new company, GeeMore Technology Ltd, was formed, while the majority of staff were made redundant and showrooms closed. The reminder of the staff were retained with the new company. Geemore Technology Ltd continued trading under the Evesham name.

Geemore Technology was later offically renamed Evesham Micros Ltd and continued to trade as Evesham Technology Ltd.

On 4th January 2008, the remaining Evesham staff were called into a meeting where it was announced that the company had gone into liquidation. A few staff were to be offered short term contracts in an attempt to rebuild the company, but another round of redundancies took place for the unlucky few.
It's now a part of the equally poor TimeUK.

Avoid.

They have an eBay shop where everything is on Clearance as well.
Beware. Evesham Technology is not a company HUKD members should even consider buying from as it went into liquidaton earlier this month.

I wasn’t clear from the earlier posts whether this was a re-badged Viewsonic or an actual Viewsonic. Good to hear it’s the latter.

I'm surprised, quite a few have mentioned that it's a Viewsonic since yesterday.

I have/had a 6200 model for the last year. It was my first Sat-Nav and I loved it.

It suddenly stopped working a month ago, Couldn't find the receipt so emailed Evesham's customer services, they got back in touch a few days later, asking for serial, name, address etc, and are going to repair it under warranty, no questions asked.

On this basis alone i'd buy another, email support isn't 24-48hrs like they state, but they always reply and are courteous when they do!

I work for Evesham, and we're still very much the same company (sadly albeit with half the staff). Don't really have any involvement with what's going on at the top, but we still have the same management and nobody "new" is on the board, and as far as I know (and hope) the aim is to be the same Evesham I also grew up with.

And these are not Time screens. The only Time product we sell are their plasma screens, everything else is as you were.
We are talking about evesham and time.... Dabs? Where did Dabs come into the convo from?
Last I herad was that BT owned Dabs ...

Is BT’s acquisition of Dabs the right call?"

Have they sold it on?
its such a scam what time did to its customers and then basically reset the company up again.
Isn't 24bit meant to be the better type of panel? Yet the viewing angles are more consistent with the poorer panels.

tiger66 where did you get the camera updates from, I got a disk with the sat nav with Detinator on but I have a MK1 unit , I must confess never looked at the version on the disk but assumed it was the same as on the SD Card.
I've got it going to standby now, a knack to it, just a quick click to the down right. So far so good, the map has sent me where I want and I have put the camera updates to Jan 08 on, so all seems OK. I have the MK11 disc that came with the sat nav curlysue, did you not get it ?
I have found you have to press the small joystick at the bottom and then press the power button, it is a bit hit and miss
I've held the button next to the spanner symbol square with a line through it, nothing happens.
grc any chance of uploading the mk2 software anywhere

My DTR has stopped working since the switch over
These are certainly now the Vestel T816 models with dual record and able to watch a recorded programme at the same time. In my mind, it is clearly the best pvr out there under £100, much better than the very loud Thomson and is 250gb in size which is bigger than nearly all the other vestel clones.
A bit more info from a question I posed at Digital Spy. It's worth checking the user comments there before leaping in, there are a lot of cheap PVRs on the market that may disappoint.
It is almost certainly one of the Vestel clones. Judging by the use of DTR (rather than PVR) in the model number and the presence of the Freeview Playback logo on the front panel suggests it is one of the latest T816 Vestel variants which have dual record capability. However it does not say specifically it is dual record. It just says "With Twin Tuners as standard you can even record one Digital TV channel, whilst watching another". This together with the low price suggests it may be the older T810 Vestel unit which is not dual record (with the official software at least). If it is a T816 it is a good price as the equivalent Wharfedale branded unit at Argos here is priced at £139.99.

Colin
The skipping will be because your aerial signal isn't strong enough . Freeview boxes have differing tuner sensitivity. These Vestel PVRs are pretty sensitive, but you do need a stronger signal for PVRs than standard set-top boxes ( the aerial signal is feeding 2 tuners ).

These are comparitively good boxes and work well ( these are one of the best budget PVRs) . Mine has given no problems in over 10 months.
I have one (well not this exact model but the same box with Digihome branding). There is a hack but it didnt work on mine. Very average and suffers from freezing/ skipping a lot. Its like the hard drive cant keep up when recording a channel and playing back a recording at the same time. Great price but doesnt really do the job properly. I found it unusable. I also have Sky+ and never get problems with that, also I have a Matsui Freeview one that works without glitches. Maybe this one is different but from what ive seen a lot of these are rebadged by Argos, Evesham and other companies and a lot of them dont seem up to the job. Voted HOT as even though Ive a poor experience its a very good price compared to other retailers.

Remember that Evesham went bankrupt just a few weeks ago and the "name" was bought for £1 by the guy who ran Tiny and Time computer companies (that both went bankrupt).

They have laid off most of their staff.

I would be very wary of doing business with them, and after sales upport may be non-existant.

no disrespect to Rayman... but because its Evesham then voted cold :)
Sharp have made a 7inch 1080p display, albeit a prototype of sorts

And 22" 1080p sets are coming next year :)

If you have to save space, this isn't bad I suppose
I know this is quite an old thread, and received a fairly cold reception, but the price is now down to £69.98 with FREE delivery... and they do currently have 442 in stock!
Evesham - Brrrrr. TIME ever colder - together - No thank you ! TIME nearly screwed me out of a 700 quid laptop on closing so they'll never be getting any money from me. Going into admin is hazard of business the way TIME and Evesham did it looked after the directors etc and screwed the customers and staff over so I'm not gonna line their pockets.
On the Evesham website (click on the 'Go to Deal' button above) there is a link to a fairly comprehensive spec. sheet, which will hopefully answer the above questions.

To pick on a couple though, the TV tuning system is shown as PAL, and the two inputs are shown as AV1 (composite) and VGA, both via supplied cable.

The resolution is just 640 x 480 and the display area 199mm x 119 mm which I reckon is a bit on the small side.

Overall it doesn't look too good to me!

AFAIK additional protection under the Consumer Credit Act doesn't kick in for purchases under £100. However some CC companies do offer customers protection above that required to meet their statutory duty.

If your Evesham TV develops a fault, we will arrange for an on-site (in your home) swap out of your TV, for 1 year from your time of purchase.
Ha dont mention that to all the current Evesham customers who have been left wanting after 90% of the evesham workforce was laid off over night. WOuldnt touch them with a barge pole - TIME were shocking in what they did and Evesham have done the same - they dont deserve anyones money.

My questions are, is this likely to fit my laptop, to replace the current DVD ROM/CD re-writer and will it be easy to remove the end cover from my drive and put it on the replacement drive?

1. The drive itself will fit yes.
2. It is easy to remove the bezel (it's just some clips and maybe two little screws.
3. That's the rub. The bezel snaps on with little clips and such and these tend to vary quite a bit unfortunately. In the past what I've done is break off the clips from my bezel and just glue it straight on to the drive which works fine but not necessarily recommended :D The other problem that can occur is that the location of the eject button on the bezel can vary also.
Right, I've got a Sony Vaio K115B.

The end plastic cover is larger than on this.

My questions are, is this likely to fit my laptop, to replace the current DVD ROM/CD re-writer and will it be easy to remove the end cover from my drive and put it on the replacement drive?
How easy is it to change the bezels on such drives?
Nice price but do prefer the NEC drive.

NEC AD-5540A 8x DVD Writer with 4x DL Writing £37.99 plus postage.

ROMs with up to an amazing 24x speed.

The AD-5540A will impress you just as thoroughly when writing, due to its excellent values in all formats. It writes to DVD-Rs, DVD +Rs and DVD +RWs at 8x speed *or DVD-RWs at 6x speed. And it handles DVD-R DL/DVD +R9 format disks just as comfortably (4x) as CDs in -R/-RW formats (24x).

The Active OPC function constantly monitors the sensitivity of the media and adjusts the laser strength to achieve the best possible results. It does this by analysing the reflection from the media's surface.
