Superb adaptation of the Arthurian legend and about a zillion times better than any remake since

A lush retelling of the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, Excalibur is a dark and engrossing tale. Director John Boorman (Deliverance) masterfully handles the tale of the mythical sword Excalibur, and its passing from the wizard Merlin to the future king of England. Arthur pulls the famed sword from a stone and is destined to be crowned king. As the king embarks on a passionate love affair with Guenevere, an illegitimate son, and Merlin's designs on power, threaten Arthur's reign. The film is visually stunning and unflinching in its scenes of combat and black magic. Featuring an impressive supporting cast, including early work from the likes of Liam Neeson and Gabriel Byrne, Excalibur is an adaptation of the legend both faithful and bold.

There's only one actual brief shot of jiggling funbags, but it's quite memorable, as Uther Pendragon (Gabriel Byrne) is doing it like they do on the Dicovery channel, in his FULL armour! lol

I love this film though. Absolutely captivated me as a young lad. It's got everything. A few bit's of hot stuff, violence & gore, cool music, sword fights, humour and stirring dialogue.

Some people say it's cheesy, but I think it's fantastic, even today ;-)

Just wish they's bring a decent Blu-Ray release out!

Helen Mirren, Patrick Stewart and even Charley Boorman! (He played the baby Mordred). Superb cinematography and music. Filmed in Ireland I think. If any film is crying out to be HD, it is this!
