Thanks lnb1996 - completely forgot Quidco and TopCashBack, so just editing the deal notes to reflect that.

Edit - Stupid question but how on earth do you leave feedback now! lol

I was looking for a decent netbook sometime back. Would have bought this at the time, so heat added! Good job OP!

It;s ok, the 11z on here recently is much the same but bigger screen and therefore bigger over all, and better value. For a few quid less I got the 10v/1011 and OSXd it for another £20 with a Snow Leopard DVD. Windows 7 starter is ok on netbooks but Ubuntu 10 is better, neater and free,

+1 regarding upgrading to home premium (there's also the option of using Windows XP or Linux if needed) - pity as I was wanting to give feedback to lnb1996 regarding the reminder for cashback.

Mmm...I think it can BUT you need to download software for it, specifically for the required codecs (along with the right file encoding for the media files) but I don't have this netbook to confirm that - you might want to check out the forum at MyDellMini.com to confirm - unfortunately I can't access it via my Android handset just now.

Edit - Here's a guide but unfortunately I don't have this model of netbook to test it out with.

Pass - agree it's very odd, as generally you don't need this.

Have you ordered from them previously via a different address? Just a thought...

You should post that as a deal thread here on HUKD, so there's an alternative for those on a tight budget as I know a lot of people who have limited budgets these days (especially with the current financial climate).

Agree but it's all down to the individual's budgets - note that also the lower spec 1011 (10z) isn't showing up as much on the Dell UK Outlet, especially after the recent expired discount delivery voucher that was available until recently (all I can see just now are the Dell Latitude 2100 Netbooks showing up, as of 0100 BST).

In addition to that the 11z has also the different CPU (Intel Celeron), the W7 Home Premium Edition OS and the larger hard drive but the lower capacity battery (a three cell), which draws more power due to the CPU being used (unless you reduce the screen brightness and disable the wireless card to increase the runtime, which even then won't provide the same battery runtime as the one bundled with these Dell Mini 1012).

Also it doesn't specify whether it comes with a six cell battery or bluetooth or the 1.3MP webcam.

But then again I am tipsy just now (vodka and red bull man!!!) so I'm not reading very well! lol

Thanks for this Scotty Boy, ordered blue and pink so thats the kids christmas presents sorted and with a massive saving on what they would have cost new from Dell - perfect!

cancelled the orignal order and ordered through paypal, so ar no problems. (toch wood) :-)

Got this exact model 2 weeks ago from overclockers for £174.99 - Great little laptop, battery last for a long time and i light and easy to carry around. I would consider boosting the 1GB RAM to a 2Gb RAM in-order to give it a little lift. This can be bought for around £30.

I missed that one I'm afraid, didn't even realise it was on the go.

Do you have links to the memory, so that can be included in the deal thread details?

Edit - The previous deal you've mentioned is unfortunately expired, as they are only offering the entry level model of the Dell Mini 1012 with the 160GB hard drive and the three cell battery for the price you've stated. This one is still the better bit when comparing the two current deals IMHO (without blowing my own trumpet).

What exactly are you looking for? A portable netbook with a 10"/11.6" screen with good battery life or perhaps a full laptop, for the more powerful CPU.

Mmm...if you have a primary desktop system then you might want to consider a 10" netbook to use, as generally the 11.6" netbooks have higher-end graphics card that use up more power.

I would suggest popping in past your nearest Currys/PC World, so you can try out the netbooks in person to see which ones are best for you to work on in terms of typing and using the trackpad.

You might want to consider this one along with ASUS and Samsung netbooks equipped with six cell batteries (consider warranty extensions/upgrades as well for quick hardware repairs) - bear in mind you'll probably need to set aside funds to upgrade the memory to 2GB but also potentially having to upgrade the OS as well (if it's W7 Starter Edition) but as a student you should be able to get access to cheaper Microsoft Windows 7 & Office 2007/2010 bundle deals.

Definitely invest in backup hardware as well (i.e. USB memory sticks, USB external hard drives, online backups, etc) if you don't already have that in place.

But that's just from my POV...I'm sure other members will comment differently.

What RAM does this take?
How many slots does it have?
is it a 1GB stick, or 2x512?

Has anybody brought one of these and recieved it yet?

Can they confirm the condition of it?

It takes up to 2GB of RAM and it's a single slot on the motherboard.

It will an integrated microphone, as you would need that for the webcam for kicking off Skype calls.
