Do The Right Thing
This powerful portrait of urban racial tension sparked controversy everywhere it played while earning popular and critical praise. The hottest day of the year and an explosive day in the life of Bedford - Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. The community will never be the same again.

8 Mile
8 Mile explores a week in the lives of a group of young people struggling to find their way in urban decay of 1995 Detroit. For people like Jimmy 'Rabbit' Smith, Jr. (EMINEM) and his friends, hip-hop is the only thing standing between them and the void. Rabbit knows his ticket out is through his rhymes, but to succeed, he has to channel his anger into his lyrics, and face the showdown of his life. Featuring outstanding performances from Eminem, academy award winner Kim Basinger, Brittany Murphy and Mekhi Phifer.

Boyz N The Hood
Boyz N The Hood is the critically acclaimed story of three friends growing up in a South Central Los Angeles. "The Hood" is a place where harmony coexists with adversity, especially for three young men growing up there: Doughboy (Ice Cube), an unambitious drug dealer; his brother Ricky (Morris Chestnut), a college-bound teenage father; and Ricky's best friend Tre (Cuba Gooding, Jr.), who aspires to a brighter future beyond "The Hood." Strengthened by a father who keeps him on the right track, Tre is put to the ultimate test when tragedy strikes close to home.

Lockdown
Crime thriller about a man wrongly imprisoned for murder. Avery (Richard T. Jones) had it all: beautiful girlfriend Krista (Melissa de Sousa), a young son and a full scholarship ahead of him. But in the blink of an eye it was all taken away. What started as a night out with his buddies ended with the shooting of a cop and Avery behind bars.

Well, of course it isn't actually going to be the greatest ever urban movies, it's more like "The Greatest Ever Urban Movies That We Could Get The Rights To For A Reasonable Price"

What exactly is an "urban movie" anyway? Lots of movies are set in cities. Is it just a PC way of saying "black culture"?

Yep, that'd be it.

Yet another compliation boxset from Universal/Columbia (see the previous Gangsters set) - Universal have the rights to Jungle Fever and Clockers, so where on Earth are they?
