Looks a good price for a twin tuner PVR card! ;-)

this is a truly top quality piece of kit -- had one for about 6 months and it is faultless for use in MediaCenter. great price too, bravo.

remote doesn't work in Linux

I had some Hauppauge software in and the comp ran awfull

you dont have to install Hauppauge software, it has BDA drivers so if you have a flavour of Windows which has Media Center built-in or you use any of the myriad of PVR software (many free) that supports BDA then you are sorted...

If I put two of these in a Vista Premium PC, can I record 4 channels at once with vista MCE ?

[edit] the answer is yes, but with mucho registry hacking:

I'm thinking about getting one of these but does anyone know if it's possible to use an external freeview box with a PC. I have a spare Nokia box and would like to use it to record TV onto the HD? I'm using XP and have MediaCenter installed.

Any advice would be appreciated! Cheers!

This is an DVB tuner so it has it's own tuner.

Yeah I know, I forgot to mention 'as an alternative to'

Can I input an external freeview box into a PC without the need for a TV tuner PCI plug-in card?

I was hoping it may be just a matter of having the right software and inputs on a graphics card.
#10
You probably could, but you would need a video capture card and software, which could be expensive, plus it wouldn't be the simplest solution to use. I don't think this is possible in media centre and I'm sure it has been discussed on thegreenbutton.com website.

I would go for one of these cards and install Windows XP/Vista Media Centre or some of the other alternatives eg gbpvr and that is it.

You need some sort of frame grabber. So an analogue tvcard would do it, these can be very cheap.
#12
Quality would be degraded slightly.

This is now coming up at £54.63 on the eBuyer website, so perhaps not such a good deal after all... typical eBuyer!

Time to 'expire' it perhaps?
#14
Thanks for you reply marchino!

Have ebuyer put the price up. Currently showing as £54.63 inc VAT less £10 google checkout. I make that £44.63

How do you get it at £40.35?

Cheers dc2447 but I'd like to stay with something long term and avoid analogue. The freeview signals are much sharper than analogue in my experience and picture quality is of importance to me.

You can get STB cards for satellite signals but why would you when you can get all the freeview channels from a DVB card?

I have to agree with this. I bought it the last time it was £10 off with google checkout (have a feeling you did too!), and I couldnt be happier with it.

Shame the price went up, however in April I bought it for £46.56, so its still pretty close to that figure.

I guess quite a few of these were ordered because of google checkout and of course marchino's post hence ebuyer's price increase. Amazon also increase prices when orders rocket on particular items which is very annoying.

After much thought I now have ordered a Hauppauge WinTV NOVA-T-500 based on all the positive comments here. Thinking about the original posted price of £40.35 I've still saved £5.72 at a cost of £44.63 inc. google checkout. I couldn't find it cheaper elsewhere.

Based on what I've read here I won't be installing the supplied Hauppauge software.
