Please don't shoot the messenger but IGN UK have just run an article about UK price reductions. The PS3 has obviously already been reduced to £399.99 but some interesting Xbox360 details also emerged.

Play.com have let them know that starting "Good Friday" and running till 10th April (or until stock runs out) the following price reductions will take place.

Xbox 360 Core Console reduced from 199.99 to 149.99.

Xbox 360 Premium Console reduced from 279.99 to 249.99.

No mention of games bundled with the systems but well worth keeping an eye on.

Here's the IGN article:- http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/778/778590p1.html

Core system now available for £149.99 !

*No Premium price drop yet :(

The core is not a bad deal but the premium on its own isn't particularly good when compared to some of the bundled deals (for £30 to £50 more) that have been posted. Its hot for the core but warm for the premium but I've voted hot!
#3
Agreed, the Core is a good price in comparison to other retailers - but not really the Premium.
#4
the premium is worth the £100 though
#5
Not spectacularly good, the core was £135 from amazon.de a couple days ago. Better bundles can be had for the premium and it was £235 in Makro a while ago. Voted warm.
#6
I've just order one of amazon.de today! and its apparently going to take 4-6weeks!

I would have got one off play.com if i'd known.

Cancel and get it from play then :)

Although they "lost" my 360 in the post when I ordered it in January and I had to wait 2 weeks for a replacement to be dispatched.

I know it's my post, but I wouldn't cancel until the offers are actually available on Play.com's website. :)

Also there is a chance that it will come sooner. I recently ordered a DVD from Amazon UK that said "dispatched within 2-3 weeks", but it actually arrived 2 days after ordering :-D

of course you could get the core pack and buy a hd from empirestores for £54 or make do with the memory card for now which can be got for £18 and wait for the 20gig to tumble in 2 months time, and a wireless controller for £24.

sell the wired controller, you should get about £14 for it.

the wireless network adaptor is also £45.00

until empirestores stop the 40% code.
#11
Not a bad deal, from a well trusted seller too.

Hopefully be some good deals on Play tomorrow
#12

You're lucky. I ordered something from Amazon on 2-3 weeks delivery but they sent me an email yesterday to say it's going to be at least another 2 weeks (8 weeks total!)

Strange pricing - they're doing a 360 premium with Gears of War and Crackdown for £289 and a premium with Gears of War and Crackdown and PES 6 for £289:thinking:
banned#21
Totally strange Premium Prices, who would pay 289 for a console with one game when you can have the console with 3 games for the same price.

The Core was £199 so they've knocked off £50.

The reason Play is doing this and no doubt other stores very shortly, is the impending price reduction on Premium Packs which will push the core package out of the market.

The next premium pack will be Black with extra hard drive space.
#24
dkiernan you're bang on (how'd you know, you're not at bluecliff are you), they're actually releasing a 360 with about the same specs as the ps3 at the end of the year, it will be called the 360 elite and it will/should blow the ps3 out the water as long as they get some of the orginally sony only games such as GTA4, so if you can wait for the new giant killer its coming out in December (at least its meant to be).
[mod]#25
Unfortunately there is no confirmation yet on a UK release for the 360 Elite.
banned#26
NDA's are a pain. Given that there wont be any games capable of fully utilising the space on a HD-DVD for another year at least, it will only be Elite's IPTV related elements that will give it the edge over the PS3
#27
No games are going to be released on HD-DVD anyway, the HD-DVD player will be an add-on for the elite console as well. The Elite is basically a premium with a bigger (120GB) hard drive, and that's about it, nothing really to get excited about. Oh, and GTA4 is coming out on the 360, that's already been announced (as is Devil May Cry 4 etc etc)
#28
Hey guys I just ordered the core console from play I geuninely think its a good deal as it has become clear there will only be a limited number of elite consoles being sold primarily and they wont be hitting uk shores until the late summer. In any case m$ have strongly announced that they do not intend on lowering the pricing of the premium models. Im planning on making do with a memory card for now and hopefully when the 20gb hdd comes down in price to purchase that separately. Anyone know a cheap deal on the memory cards? I know they have the 512mb versions coming out soon but not too sure when!

if you want a next gen console and dont want to throw £280 at the premium deal on offer ( which is a good price for 3 games included), i think you have done the right thing.

empire stores have 40% off at the moment with a discount code, they sell the mem card at a rip off £29.99 but it comes out at £18 with the code.
you would probably get a better deal on flea bay for the mem card.

you can get firmware hacks which allow you to use none microsoft hard drives which are loads cheaper, however i suppose it depends how adventurous you are.

The Elite isn't official yet for the European market but i have no doubts whatsoever that it will be released within a couple months after this months launch in the USA, as Microsoft are very good at doing worldwide releases quite close to each other.
I also believe the Elite has limited stock because they're trying to release a small amount for other territories within a short time, which keeps interest high worldwide, some of you may remember the xbox 360 was launched like this and it generated so much extra generated interest, that some consoles were sold for upto £2000 on ebay.
The Nintendo Wii is also being released in a similar fashion, making people want to order it as soon as they see it instock, weather or not they've truly considered buying the console but have decided to listen to the hype caused by people showboating buying something that has limited quantities available.

REGARDING THE TOPIC:
The core pack is now at a really good price at play.com if you're on a budget but a harddrive is essential if you actually intend to use the console, which you obviously will do because you're buying a console and you're not spending all that money for a bulky dvd player. :p

The £289 packs that people are talking are the standard packages that microsoft offer and stores seperate the deal.
The package that gamestation are offering for £305 is the standard offer but they also include WWE RAW because it's a slow selling game and they need to shift some units.

What play.com have done is include the standard offer, which is xbox 360, crackdown, gears of war and they've seperated PGR 3, Live arcade and the wireless controller, thusly selling the extras seperately and lowering the price of the package.

Play.com and HMV have also included Pro Evo 6 as part of the deal, which is better than any of the other games in the standard package that was seperated but has less value as a whole compared to 2 games and a wireless controller, so they're still making their money.
#32
empire stores have a £15 off £30 code now, so you can get the mem card for £15

it is good enough to save your data from played games to, not worth it for going online. however merely using for game saves is fine.

then either use a non microsoft hd or wait for the price tumble.

obviously if you want to use the online features you may be limited in what you can actualy do downloading content wise.
#33
Have to admit i sold mine a few months back... but these deals make me want it again :)

£150 for core or £299 for Prem with Gears, Pgr3, crackdown and extra wireless controller

Hard Questions!!!!
[helper]#34
Can you not just use a usb flash drive instead of buying a 360 memory card? Never really looked at the memory side of thing as I have a hard disk but might be worth checking and if you already have a flash drive/stick then there's no need to buy the memory card.

Nice post RFM (RealFriendlyMan).....

At the risk of getting my wrists slapped, £150 for a console which then can be flashed to play backups (ahem!), is a good deal.

I wouldn't think so, Play.com only have this £149.99 price till April 10th (then it goes back up).

Of Course you can sit back & wait, It just depends how long you want to wait before you start playing some great games.

We'll all be on Live waiting for you.

I was looking at purchasing a 1gb usb flash drive instead it doesnt seem worth the money for 64mb card and no uk store is selling the 512mb card as yet. Will saving games work on the flash drive? One more thing I have noted quite a few ebay auctions where the 64mb cards are selling for just £3.50 what is the deal with this is it legit??? SOunds too good to be true!
