One of the reviews?

I bought an Everio camcorder and then the DVD burner about a month ago. Just tried to burn my first disk. Used a Tesco DVD-R at first and got a message saying 'Incompatible disc' - so I tried the one that comes with the unit - same message - then I have just read a message on the Amazon USA site from another purchaser with the same issue - will now have to contact JVC to try to resolve - not happy

I wouldn't bother, even tho i could do with an external writer.

lesson 1 re: computers - dont use cheap disks!!
could be faulty unit or user error but more likely rubbish disks

Aye! One of the two reviews at Amazon...the other one rated it 4 stars...too bad i could not find any other reviews or forum about it:-(....Very few people bothers to try it for themselves especially if they have spotted even a single negative comment...positive ones indeed are most likely being ignored.

At that price just ordered one for my mate, If no good can always return it.

Worth a try, amazon are good with returns, it may mean you can get others in the family to burn there own dvd's straight from the camera to save you spending time on your pc over Xmas having to do dvd's for them and auntie jane etc...

I was one of the lucky ones to get my mitts on the Advent UMPC massive deal of the century at PCWorld a little while ago and have been looking around for a cheap EXTERNAL DVDRw to use with it!! All previously found external units were at least £40. So this is a real saving!!
Just ordered one !!:-D
If not suitable, will be passed on to mate with JVC HD Cam

Be quick, only 4 left now!

I would so buy this if it weren't only for jvc camcorders :-(
#9
you can still use it as a normal DVD burner right?
#10
I believe you will need the camcorder cable to connect this unit to a computer

Surely, this is a completely daft buy for people who just want to use it with a PC? You can buy a *working* completely up-to-date DVD writer for under £20, from makes like Lite-On and Panasonic. These are really good drives that just sit there and produce CDs and DVDs. If you really need it to be an external drive, then £10 will get you an extrenal 5.25" drive case.
There are only two reviews on the Amazon website, and both said the drive did not work, although one of them rather charitably gave it 4 stars. Even if it worked, it would only burn DVDs at 4x speed. This is not a bargain.

I put a £17 internal pioneer dual layer dvd writer into a £10 caddy and it works great as an external dvd writer. Dual Layer for only £27 and its pioneer (one of the better makers of dvd-writers)!
I recommend doing this, I got mine from ebuyer.

ebuyer do a nice one for £10. Free delivery at the moment if you are buying over £50 worth of stuff. You might find one a bit cheaper elsewhere, like fleabay, but bear in mind that things like the power supply may vary in quality. (Just checked on ebay, and they seem to be more expensive, including postage.)

nice find...have got one of these cam's,and decent enough that even the the dreaded female outlaw can even operate it!!!! the software supplied is rubbish so been lookin 4 this unit for some time.once again thanks.happy crimbo to all.:santa:

doesnt seem to be compatible with my GZ-MG26EK - the usb lead that comes with the sharestation doesnt have the right connector for the camcorder.

Have just sent mine back to Amazon for a refund. The drive refused to read many of my branded, blank DVD disks (even refused to read the blank DVD that CAME in the box!). No buffer underrun protection on the drive either. Reminds me of DVD burners of 3-4 years ago and as far as I am concerned completely unsuitable as an external DVD burner.

my fist one from ask direct for £51.90 was sent back and full refund obtained as it would not burn any disk including the JVC one that came with it. I then took a punt at the amazon one and works like a charm, guess a lot of faulty ones out there. I even managed to get my £10 back as I paid £29.99 for it so very pleased.
