My friend, that is a GOOD DEAL!!! :w00t:

I see this one as getting very hot, especially considering the price!

Edit - Including the three working day delivery cost, it pushes the price up to a total of £29.55p but this is still pretty good, as smaller portable DVD writers are always more expensive. You might want to consider updating the deal thread to include that additional cost as well, to prevent any issues.

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

£4.59 is the cheapest delivery so actual price is £29.55..

does it need a power cable or will it work off the USB

The product specification mentions that it comes with a USB Y cable - i.e. a cable with two USB plugs, one for data & power and the other for extra power. Some computers may be able to power this device from a single USB port, but if your computer cannot provide enough power from a single port you will need to connect both ports.

Edit: A bit slow off the mark - Scotty Boy already answered.

Is this okay to use to watch movies on a netbook ?

That's right, asked the OP to update the deal details to reflect that (see my first post).

Still a good deal though, as I haven't seen many this cheap before now - cheapest ones that come close are full 5 & 1/4 external USB based drives.

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

Personally I use a USB stick or an SD card to transfer from other PCs to my netbook.

I did my Windows 7 upgrade from a USB stick after making it bootable and copying the Windows 7 DVD onto it.

No, obviously not , but why bother?

Brilliant price, just wondering if this is a mistake.

Can anyone spot the difference between Hypertec_Firestorm_UltraSlim-DVD_RW_R_DL_DVD-RAM_drive-Hi-Speed_USB.html and Hypertec_Firestorm_Ultra-Slim_USB_2_0_8X_DVD_RW.html#related.

Both spec and design wise looks the same??

H&R added though, probably will order (the cheaper :-D) one myself.

Because when you buy a dvd it's not going to play on a usb stick/sd card, the reason in buying one of these in the first place

Offer would be good if they supplied to all of UK. However, they're definition of UK mainland is actually Great Britain. Everyone if N. Ireland avoid it247.com as it will only waste your time.

Looks like the pricier one does DVD+/-R and DVD-RAM. Still, it's quite a price difference!

Having bought an MSI Wind from Argos last week I’ve been busy installing various bits and pieces. When I’ve needed to install from a CD/DVD I’ve been doing this by putting the disk into my Samsung laptop and then sharing the drive. I can then access the disk via the wireless router.

Wouldn’t work for watching a DVD or if you have to boot from a disk, but for just installing software I’ve found it less hassle than copying to a USB stick.

Good deal for this BTW.

im stooooopid, can this be used to load software off a disc onto a netbook? or is it just for dvd burning etc

It will work just like a 'normal' drive (i.e. one that is built into your computer).
You will be able to load software from it.

Ok, just ordered.. BE VERY CAREFUL...!!! at the end of the checkout it asks you to 'continue' or click here to enter rewards program. Rewards program costs you £10 per month!!

A lot of companies are using this tactic so please be careful. I didn't click on 'click here to enter' but clicked on OK. I automatically got forwarded to a site which stated :

Congratulations...

Very good deal. Not everyone has the know-how or inclination to make bootable USB sticks or perhaps even another machine with an optical drive to read discs on in the 1st place!

Hi have to say that I very rarely watch DVDs now rather I rip them to an avi file with AC3 audio and they play stright from my DVD player or laptop. I keep them stored on my desktop if I need to, but they play fine off a USB flash drive.
#34
Excellent price. Ordered one for myself. Got 3netbooks in the family so will come in handy if anyone needs the drive

Yeah i've seen this on a few sites now... and my 1st thought was scam ...so i looked into it and it's not a scam .,.. The company is called "shopping discount rewards" and it is a £10 a month scheme ( 1st 30 days free ) and you have access to over 700 websites with special offers Interflora etc...( not just the site where you joined up ) so i tried it out ... joined up ... sent my mother a £30 bunch of flowers with a 50% saving ...got me £15 back and then canceled it.. :-) LOL ... don't think they'll let me join again :-( atleast my mum thinks i'm ace ;-)
