Seems like a good deal (I know nothing about guitars but this had a good review). With the drop in price and the free delivery this upgraded model is only £3 dearer than the basic extra value package which is being sold on Ebay for the thick end of £80 plus postage:

The best first guitar that money can buy.

With all the attention to detail, features, tone, top looks, playability, balance and dynamics associated with guitars for the performance player.

This guitar provides incredible value for money, with a guitar youll be proud to play and keep as a first guitar forever.

cant help but think that "The best first guitar that money can buy" and "incredible value for money" dont go hand in hand. That money can buy? ok i'll have a prs then wonder if they do a starters package lol
#2
They also do "Extra Value Sunburst Electric Guitar, Amp, Bag and more for £39.99"!
Is this black one better?

I would say so, the other one's described as having a "wooden" guitar rather than "solid wood" which leads me to believe it's composite or MDF or some cheap rubbish like that.

This is a cracker of a deal.

The Black Guitar is, as has been said, solid wood & as you'd have to pay p&p on the cheaper one it works out only £3 dearer. I've looked on ebay & the cheaper package is being flogged for almost twice the price when you add p&p.

Nice find, Toonami.
Just ordered one :)

they look and seem identical to me.

these things vary in price constantly, you may simply be paying a privilege for the black one

Anyone know any good deals on accoustic guitars for a beginner?

Anyone know any good deals on accoustic guitars for a beginner?

They have an acoustic guitar on the same site for £24.99

This is a fantastic beginner's kit. I recently bought the grey one as a present (£10 cheaper) and it is excellent quality for the price. I am sure aficionados would claim more expensive guitars give better sound and I am not in a position to argue. However, this fits the bill for a first guitar. It sounds ok, was easy to tune and has stayed in tune and it looks the part. When a youngster is showing an interest in playing, you cannot be sure that it is not just a fad so buying an expensive guitar could be a waste of money. With this kit you won't loose too much if it is just a fad.

Spend a further £10 to get free postage.

its true this guitar wont be that special compared to some guitars, i would personally go for a value range from a brand name however

my first guitar was a sunn mustang, cheap fender series and it was rubbish. difference being i bought it from a guitar store and man will they charge alot for what is essentially the same stuff. so best get something like this from ebuyer then a highstreet store i think
#11
just got off the phone to ebuyer, they put me on hold while they spoke to the product manager who said that the black was was different to the cheaper one although he could not tell the sales girl why.

could be a ploy just to sell more at the extra £10

If you look at the specs the cheaper one does say "Wooden" while this one is "Solid wood" & it details the wood used. For £3 extra you simply have to chose the better guitar - it has £20 off already & has free p&p over the other one.

P&P is not free as it is under £50 excluding vat. Whats worth buying for £8 excluding vat? Anyone know of any codes?
#14
the postage on the black one is free - just checked it now
#15
well i just ordered the cheaper one, added a couple of extra items to reach the free delivery also. see how the tin pot gets on with it, if its not a faze(?) and he uses it il get him a better one.

It is free; my order was free delivery & it is that on top of everything else that makes it a much better deal than the cheaper package.

If you don't really want the extra items it may be worth changing your order to the better guitar - delivery is free.

I do not believe that the guitar is different from this one at £39.99
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/126347
It is probably ebuyer up to their usual tricks of yo-yo pricing. The black unit has been up and down in price over the past few weeks. Ebuyer often increase the price of an item then you see it advertised on their deal of the day at a great reduction! - Hmmm

One suggestion for an item to add to your order to get free delivery - a set of headphones to plug into the amp so that you don't have to listen while they practice. (Headphone socket is 6mm jack)

The cheaper guitar is "wooden" meaning wooden effect. The dearer one is solid wood (lists wood used). It uses better materials & it is FREE delivery. If you to get a guitar from here - get the £49.99 one - it works out only £3 more.

Aaargh!

Listen mate, take it from someone who knows about guitars.

The more expensive one is made from "solid wood" - it's a better quality wood, and means the body isn't cobbled together from sawdust and wood chippings.

The cheaper one is just described as "wooden" - it's more than likely made from MDF, composite, i.e. bits of sawdust and wood chippings compacted together.

The more expensive one is an infinitely better guitar.
#21
mine has arrived (the grey one) despite my call to ebuyer yesterday asking them to cancel the order.

when i get home tonight i will check it out to see whats it like.

how can i tell what its made of anyway ie would an MDF one be lighter etc
#22
looking at the site very carefully the grey one and the black one look identical - they have the same pictures and the amps are identical.

the description has also now changed its now described as "an electric guitar" it was described yesterday as wooden.

the sunburst one still has it described as wooden guitar. the sunburst also has a different amp to the grey and black one.

the posters who state that the grey one is different from the black one have made that assumption based on the description which has now been changed.
#23
Good grief, don't worry about it. Unless it isn't made out of wood at all then you don't really have a problem. It's a sub £50 guitar that anyone just learning will more than likely be very pleased with and will no doubt upgrade within a reasonable amount of time to something better.

Take it from (another) person who knows about guitars! I'd be more concerned if it didn't have a truss rod but it looks like it does.

Really not worth getting into guitar snobbery with a £50 unit - there is plenty of time later for that!
#24
FGEvans, I think you will see tonight that the box the guitar is delivered in is the same box used for the three models discussed in this thread. There is a tick box to indicate which version (colour) is in the box. This adds to my belief that they are the same. I think you will be pleasently surprised by the goods when you see them.

scotty
#25
i have spoken to my partner and you are right about the color, the side of the box has a checklist listing numerous colors and the Gery box is ticked.

there is black, red, blue, green, white, sunburst, grey etc.

these guitars are surely identical then apart from the colour

I just tried to order this package and after clicking the free delivery option it added on circa £8 for delivery bringing it up to £57. I know it's still probably a fair price but anyone know any way round the charge e.g. money off code? I phoned ebuyer and told that I had to pay it due to my postcode (Aberdeen) I had to incur the cost.

Probably need to decide - is this really worth buying (for son, either birthday or Xmas), particularly as this comes into the category of 'if I hadn't seen it on Hot Deals it wouldn't be on the agenda to purchase'!
#27
Looks like a good deal but does anyone have any recommendations for a teaching dvd? I'm a complete beginner.

I see that the encore guitars come with a training dvd but the title is not listed.

edit: Found it here - http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop/flypage/product_id/8198/a/r/e/base

I'm really considering this now. The black is described different to the other two, solid wood, maple and rosewood is also mentioned. So the black is a better buy but what i need to know is if an acoustic guitar better to learn on to begin with?
#29
Well you play an electric and an acoustic slightly differently, well with the strumming hand in any case. Chances are both are going to sound pretty awful when you first start.

There are two advantages to learning on an electric 1) is doesn't make much noise when it isn't amplified :) 2) the strings are likely to be easier on the fingers.

As the the solid wood thing I wouldn't worry too much, the thing that will let the guitars down will be the quality of the electric componants. If you get in to it chances are you will lay down the extra money for a better instrument and pass this one on to another learner.

The best first guitar is a Yamaha Pacifica 112 IMO. Will give a greater time until you start needing/craving a better model.

Over £100 more though

So it is no different to play other than you strum on an acoustic. For £50 you can't really go wrong though eh?

Sorry, can't help with any codes. Would you get charged the extra £8 on the cheaper package on top of the standard p&p?

Over £100 more though

Yeah no ****. Do you understand the concept of false economy?
#35
Toonami - thanks for your response. Don't think I'll get charged extra p&p with the cheaper model but to be honest I think I'll go for the black guitar (aesthetic concession) and pay the extra.

Callused - as for false economy wtr to Pacifica v this cheap model - totally understand what you're saying but given the price differential the ebuyer package is a great buy for a kid starting out (who may give up ...)
#36
hence the reason i only bought the cheaper one, (and added a couple of extra items i needed which took me to the free delivery)

Our lad only wants one because his friend has one, he hasnt shown any interest in music before now, but if he does take to it then great, he can have a better one.
#37
Has anyone that ordered one received it? Just wondering what the quality is like?
#38
i have just found the manufacturers site, as i thought the black, sunburst and grey guitars are indeed identical.

they are made by a chineese company called hangzhou star wave.

for those doubters out there you will see that the ebuyer codes for the guitars are TEG 131.

if you look at the web site the guitars are all made out of hard wood with maple and rose wood necks. the same kits are going for £90 on ebay (with delivery).

For all the gripes, this is a fantastic deal! It enables you to start playing electric guitar for the equivalent of the 50 shilling acoustics that were around in the 1950's, which gave messrs. Clapton, Beck, Page and many others their first bash.

If you, (or your kids), have got any talent it will soon come out and you'll want to upgrade when you need to; otherwise you'll have a bit of fun until boredom sets in and the thing ends up going down the charity shop:p

Whatever, buy now before the price goes up in anticipation of Xmas - it's a bargain!
#40
in fact the grey one is a better quality one than both the black and sunburst.

its the TEG131L model which is made from solid basswood with a mable neck and rosewood inlay

http://tpj-instrument.en.alibaba.com/product/50353217/50168062/Electric_Guitar_Bass/Electric_Guitars.html

the sunburst and black are described as simply being made from hard wood.

basewood is meant to give a very pleasing sound
